Looks like we could use an overnight thread. Possible discussion topic: Which picture of this cat better represents your feelings about the season?

I think I’m right about 50/50, actually.
Mohagan
My vote is the cat with the pumpkins, but as a cat lady, I have to say I’m not a big fan of the baby talk trend (for several years now) in cat pictures. Cats, if they could talk, would not talk in baby talk!
Major Major Major Major
@Mohagan: while I feel the same way, I’m sure we can agree to separate the picture from the caption in our heads here.
ruemara
Image 2 actually.
opiejeanne
Cute kitty but yeah, agree on the baby talk. It’s kind of annoying. One of our cats gives us the “fuck you” look pretty often, the other one just stares and doesn’t blink. We used to think he was an alien, those golden eyes in that black face like little scary lights.
I love Hallowe’en but we don’t get kids at the door here any more. Makes me sad that we have to eat all that candy ourselves.

At our department lunch today I was told a story of one of the senior engineers. He moved to Sweden without telling anybody and then just announced he’d be working from Sweden. And now he works from Sweden.
I suspect I like this new company.
opiejeanne
@ruemara: Yes, the one with the pumpkins, for me because the cat looks more comfortable than in the first one where he/she’s wedged into a basket of some sort.
opiejeanne
@Major Major Major Major: So, you don’t actually need to move to NY? You could just work from your current home?
Major Major Major Major
@opiejeanne: while I am a senior engineer, I am not nearly that senior. I was hired for the New York team and there I shall be. Not that I want to stay.
opiejeanne
@Major Major Major Major: I see.
Major Major Major Major
@opiejeanne: they’re trying to have more engineers physically in New York.
Mohagan
@opiejeanne: yeah, dogs seem to enjoy costumes and dressing up – must be the social aspect of both human and dog society. Cats, not so much. That must be a mellow cat. Probably helps s/he is a Persian type; they tend to be mellower than DSH and Orientals.
Luciamia
Ummm, I think not either. Too bright. Like when I was a kid, “You can’t go trick or treating when it’s still light out! “
Amir Khalid
@opiejeanne:
You get to have all that candy. I’m sure that eases a little of the pain.
Amir Khalid
I’d go with picture no.2.
Ohio Mom
@Luciamia: When I was a kid,we lived in apartment buildings, first in the Bronx, then in Queens. We trick or treated by taking the elevator to the top (13th) floor, hit those seven apartments, took the stairs down a floor, hit those apartments, and so on until we got to the ground floor.
Then it was into the elevator to go back home (8th floor in the Bronx, 4th in Queens). It never gets dark in the hallways of an apartment building. We went as soon as we got home from school.
By nightfall, we were doing homework.
But I agree about Halloween being better in the dark. I learned that as an adult, escorting my toddler in the suburbs of Ohio.
J R in WV
We went out the road into the suburban development a half mile or so past our house. At first mom or dad walked with us, most often mom as dad worked nights. I was always so surprised that they all seemed to know who I was in the constume..!!! How!!???
Much later on in life I understood that far more people knew who I was than who were people I knew…
ETA: back to bed now, 4 hours isn’t nearly enuff.

I have to go in to work this morning to support an admissions open house. This sucks donkey balls. Not a happy camper.
satby
Don’t like either picture, hate baby talk even to babies much less animals.
I used to love Halloween, but just like everything else it’s been ruined by (mostly white) people’s fears of everything outside their homes.
satby
@geg6: hoisting my ☕cup in your general direction as I have one before I’m off to the farmers market.
Raven
We’ll be at the beach! I thought this group looked good at the doggie parade!
Mo MacArbie
#2, but yeah, Tonstant Weader fwowed up.
Michael Cain
@Major Major Major Major: Do they pay accordingly?
Major Major Major Major
@Michael Cain: It’s a San Francisco company, and the engineers are paid the same in NY, so if anything they’re overpaid in NY.
Bonnie
I’m with the second picture. Just exactly the way I feel. I have made up for that by contributing money–much more than usual.
Pogonip
I love holidays but hate seeing a poor suffering animal with a smushed-in face.
I have a pet question. A nice cat’s been hanging around and if no one claims her we’ll keep her. She won’t come in but will probably change her mind as it gets colder. If we make her a house cat she’ll have a box. She’s so friendly I expect she was a house cat before. My question is: if you shake as much litter as possible off a piece of poop, can you flush the poop, or will 21st century litter clog the toilet? If it will, what’s the least unpleasant way to get the poop out of the house?
