@WaterGirl: What is the probability that Trump even knows what the word autocrat means?

Wipe them out. All of them.

  14. 14
    WaterGirl says:

@Citizen_X: I think there is maybe a 5-10% chance that Trump knows what autocrat means. He probably hears “aristocrat” and assumes it’s a good thing. He might know that from the Disney movie.

  15. 15
    WaterGirl says:

@Scout211: I wondered about that, too. He should have said “dictator”, at least people know what that means.

  16. 16

  17. 17
    Scout211 says:

    @Omnes Omnibus:
Good question. I had a tough time deciding between the two Democrats. Kevin de Leon has more current issues (like the environment) that he is very involved in and the issues that he has worked for in California won out for me over DiFi’s seniority.
Plus, the California Democratic party has endorsed him over DiFi, for many of those reasons.
We can’t lose either way, but I am ready for a change.

    A Ghost To Most says:

Best not be unprepared. That has been my mantra for two years.

Besides, how can we prepare for that?

@JPL: Either way, they won’t receive the message that Joe Biden is trying to send. Know your audience.

  21. 21
    ruemara says:

@WaterGirl: Some but not all. Some really are just that way.

@Scout211: Seniority. That’s the factor and the endorsement was due to well, even more Bernie bro infiltration nonsense.

  22. 22
    WaterGirl says:

@Scout211: A vote against DiFI this year seems really short-sighted to me. I hope that the majority in CA are not thinking like you are.

There’s a lot to lose in terms of experience, knowing the rules, and seniority on committees. I am not DiFi’s biggest fan, but this is not the year to choose a young pup without experience.

  23. 23
    WaterGirl says:

@ruemara: Yep. I chose my word carefully.

  24. 24
    Mnemosyne says:

I’m probably going to stick with DiFi. I feel that the issues she’s strongest on and has the most experience with are the ones that are going to come up the most under Trump. I’m not sure that De Léon would have been as comfortable championing Christine Blasey Ford. YMMV.

Plus my ideal candidate to replace DiFi would be Adam Schiff, so I’m hoping that comes to pass.

  25. 25
    B.B.A. says:

I will vote for the first candidate to endorse categorizing them as enemy combatants and ordering the National Guard to fire on them at will.

(Well, as long as it’s not Wilmer.)

  26. 26
    Scout211 says:

I do think that DiFi will win re-election because she has lots of Republican moderate support here in California. I live in a very red county and she gets lots of praise from Republican voters and Barbara Boxer got trashed as a LIB for years.

Maybe my vote was short-sided, but change has to start somewhere.

  27. 27
    A Ghost To Most says:

I’ve made a shit ton of preparations, and they continue. None involve weapons or ammo. Yet. They do involve being able to slip off into the mountains and disappear, up roads few cars can travel. If it comes to it, I plan on being as much a pain in the ass as I can. I have some debts to repay..

  28. 28
    jeffreyw says:

In the run up to 2016, PBS newshour had two people, a man and a woman with Nazi tattoos as T supporters and did a gushing piece on them on how T is getting people who were never involved in politics to volunteer. They apologized for that piece later that week. After people complained.

    C Stars says:

That NYT profile of McInnes was just finally too much for me. “Not afraid to get physical”? Published the very day after he instigated a (likely pre-planned) hours-long beatdown on the streets? Vomit.

I contacted subscriptions today to cancel, and it was not easy. I have to have a “chat” with a customer service representative about why. This person/bot on the other end of the chat wanted to confirm repeatedly that I was cancelling because I was dissatisfied with some specific content. Had to rush out on a deadline so I walked away but I guess I have to try again tonight.

“Without seniority in the US Senate” would be accurate. I’m not a California voter, and don’t have much of a horse in this race, but De Leon is an experienced and accomplished legislator. And he’s probably older than a “pup” too.

Apologies for derailing the thread, but wanted to let you know — because I had shared my fears and concerns the other day — that my cousin had his little toe and a slice of the side of his foot amputated this afternoon. So much better than it might have been; most of us in the family were braced to learn they were going to amputate the whole foot, so this is a great relief.

He’s already sending funny, cheerful email updates. Can’t keep a nine-toed Canadian down for long!

@Scout211: When Boxer and DiFi and Clinton first ran in 1992, they put out a yard sign with Clinton on the top half, and Boxer and DiFi split in the bottom half. My neighbor put one up with Boxer’s quarter cut out. Rush Limbaugh really went after her for being a “feminazi” and lots of people bought it.

Daniel Dale has a piece in the Star about King and Goldy.
Goldy was fired from Rebel Media for being too extreme. As if! Going on nazi media and discussing the “Jewish Question” was too much for Ezra Levant the Rebel Commander. Ezra is an asshole to be sure but he is also, as you might guess, Jewish.

I will not read about Gavin McInnes but he also worked at Rebel and got fired by Ezra. They sent Gavin to Israel and he came back and wrote a piece called IIRC “10 Things I Hate About the Motherfucking Jews.” Long gone of course but you can see Ezra’s point. Does the NYT mention that? No? Curious.

White supremacy has been the acceptable default position of this country until the 1970’s, but never really went away. The only thing that has changed is who is counted as white. If you wanted to get ahead, in the last 50 years, you just had to be more circumspect in your racism.

But Trump started saying the quiet parts out loud and won.

So I guess there are people in the media trying to figure out how much of the quiet parts they can start saying out loud again.

    Well, here’s a positive emoticon.

@lamh36: “searching for an explanation”…where. is. my. bat?

“Searching for an explanation”?!?!? A journalist is dead – tortured, killed, dismembered. There are tapes. There were 15 Saudis flown in, one with a bone saw, and then they flew right the fuck back out again. There is no “searching for an explanation”. They either killed him or they didn’t. If they didn’t, they sure as hell aren’t all het up about being falsely accused. Pompeo sure as hell isn’t asking even the most basic questions or putting anyone at all on the blessed spot. (Neither are reporters, btw, but oh well)

“Searching for an explanation”. “Searching for some plausible way to deny what they obviously did and/or buy time for more checks to clear in US congressmens’ campaign accounts” is more like it.

@SiubhanDuinne: Great news about your cousin! My brother in law has had similar problems and had parts of 3 toes amputated. He’s now able to walk up to 5 miles at a time again(although he had to start driving, can’t feel pressure on the pedals). Your cousin should adapt fine.

And I’m voting for Diane Feinstein but would be ok with De León.

The main stream media will just keep pushing them out there, leaving no stone unturned looking for new recruits for Confedernazis. The 1920s Klan actually credited the FTFNYT for helping with their numbers in that era.

@germy: a proper journalist would have added, “thereby signally a major shift in the court’s direction”

  129. 129
    Elizabelle says:

@germy: That’s incredible, isn’t it? Roberts knows that people see that the USSC has become just as corrupted as any other institution the GOP has ruined in Washington.

I don’t think for a moment the majority wanted Kavanaugh on the court. Thomas, maybe. Maybe Gorsuch, although maybe not.

Kavanaugh is so blatantly partisan. and the Voting Rights decision and Citizens United show how dreadful Roberts and Kennedy are/were. People are watching.

    WaterGirl says:

@Elizabelle: Reading your comment just now reminded me of what I wanted to tell you earlier!

I listened to the LGM PODCAST: THE KAVANAUGH CAPER last night.

On the latest LGM Podcast, Robert Farley moderates a discussion between Paul and Scott from LGM about the Kavanaugh hearing, the immediate impact on the Supreme Court of Kavanaugh’s ascension, and the broader political implications of the confirmation.

I was kind of surprised and definitely pleased to hear that both of them seemed to think it is quite possible that Kavenaugh could end up off the supreme court. Not that he would be impeached, but that information will come out about his finances or something else that would make it nearly impossible to stay on the court. I thought you might be interested to know that and I thought it might help keep your spirits up.

I listened to the podcast as I was falling asleep last night, so I will listen again tonight to get any details I might have missed as I was drifting off to sleep.

I understand people feeling afraid or discouraged. But not this cynicism that the “fix” is already in. There’s no way Ghost can know that unless he’s some high level GOP official and I don’t believe he is.

I’m hoping Breet “Justice” Kavanaugh gets indicted, tried, and convicted for ruling in a manner specifically designed to support major payments to his family bank accounts.

Much of which decision may rule that most of his payments were a result of his tenance were to describe his family as well-off, due to his family income.
