If you’re on Twitter, you’ve probably seen this, but it’s worth watching again:
Because everything sucks, please enjoy this dad making a roller coaster out of a laundry basket.
pic.twitter.com/dULYjvRJtC— Randi Mayem Singer (@rmayemsinger) October 13, 2018
We had a very short fall when Hurricane Michael sucked up all the moisture in the air and deposited it northward. It’s back up in the 90s and humid again today.
But at least we have electricity, a roof over our heads and fully stocked stores. Not so much in the Panhandle.
We thought about trucking some supplies up but figured we might just get in the way. So we donated to a relief fund instead. Charity Navigator is a good place to start if you want to help.

“Be careful, Dad!” So sweet.

I love this video.
Badger pictures are always welcome ?

Well, doesn’t stand a chance against a storm surge, then, doesn’t it?

I don’t know about that, I’ve been seeing news reports that the residents in the hard-hit areas haven’t seen ANYONE. No FEMA, nobody. Looks like the Trump administration is repurposing the old anti-war slogan. Now it’s – ‘what if they gave a hurricane and nobody came?’
Felanius Kootea
I love that video!
WaterGirl
@Joyce H: Could that be Trump trying to influence the election? Or just everyday neglect and indifference?
NotMax
The really hard part is getting the light to say “cheese.”
Thoughtful David
Cute as hell.
Yutsano
Aww damn. I wanted too see what he did when it stops!
My middle nephew turns two today, so I have a family party to attend. This means no afternoon nap but my nephew adores me. And for a 9 week preemie is pretty much a tank.
Ruckus
@Joyce H:
Had the same thought.
Read the Daily Beast article and notice that FEMA is waiting for people to ask for help. People with no power, no landlines, and when they do call FEMA, getting told to call the Red Cross, by FEMA which is about as useless, they are telling people to call someone else. I’d guess they want everyone to pass the buck, until they can figure out how to make some money at this recovery stuff.
Republicans – Douchebags from hell.
WaterGirl
@Yutsano: Wow, 9 weeks, that’s early; sounds like he has caught up already!
How awesome that he adores you. Definitely worth missing the nap.
Raoul
@Joyce H: He doesn’t even care about voters in Trump-land. FTR I think everyone no matter their political leanings deserves emergency care and relief. But if the MAGA can’t sort out that the orange menace and his reptilian local agent Rick Scott can’t handle hurricane relief, then after Nov 6th, I’ll want a Melania “I don’t care” jacket.
jharp
That video made me feel nauseous.
It was adorable no doubt.
But something about my vision and trying to focus on stationary objects from above while I’m moving makes me feel woozy.
Happens when I go over bridges every time.
WaterGirl
@jharp: I don’t get nauseous, but my vicarious ride with the litter girl is surely the only rollercoaster I will ever be on. Do not like rollercoasters, but that was totally adorable.
westyny
Best thing ever. For a moment at least, best Dad ever.

I just did my first volunteer stint for a local dog rescue group. Scanned adoption contracts for Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. Their motto is, “Rescuing badass dogs from idiot people”. Then swung by another rescue group in the same neighborhood and took one of their hounds out for a walk.

I’m not so I didn’t so thanks for sharing with this old Luddite.
I really, REALLY wanted to go see “Free Solo” this afternoon (speaking of vertigo) but I shot my wad doing multiple tiny jobs today and am now working on tonight’s spaghetti and meatball, salad and garlic knots dinner.
TaMara (HFG)
@Yutsano: Here’s the full video. I searched it out back when I first saw it on twitter because I had to see the whole thing. :-) The mom posted it and she’s overwhelmed by the response.
Brachiator
Great video. The daughter’s reaction and squeals of delight are just wonderful. What a great dad!

Have a primo bunch of names for whom you can write outstanding PostCards.
People who vote in upstate New York, but whose mailing addresses are in NYC. (Absolutely legal. If you have two dwellings, you get to choose where you will vote.)
These are full-fledged, Bluer than Blue, Big-Time Liberals, so you can go all out to help elect Antonio Delgado.
Also have an endless supply of regular Upstater addresses, too.
This is a close race. Turnout is everything. John Faso is a Trump puppet, who lies – I know, I repeat myself – and is running the most horrific commercials against Delgado.
Black, blackity, blacker than black pictures of Delgado. Who is a Rhodes Scholar and a Harvard Law School grad. who, yes, does happen to be Black. But Faso shows Delgado in – wait for it – a hoodie. Plus there are some youthful forays into rap in another ad. “Delgado. The Wrong Voice for Us” or something like that about “Wrong Voice”. Basically: Blackness is Wrong
So, please, consider at least 10 or 20 PostCards for Delgado. Faso gotta go.

@WaterGirl: My third nephew was at 6 weeks. Nature is very much telling my sister in law no more kids! Actually she’s going to get a tubal ligation soon.
RedDirtGirl
@MazeDancer: I already sent some postcards for two Virginia candidates. Just contacted them and asked for people in Delgado’s district. Thanks for the tip.
WaterGirl
@Yutsano: You are right about that! In the long run, a tubal ligation is preferable to yelling “get away from me” all the time. That’s very wearing on the vocal chords, not to mention the relationship. :-)

@MazeDancer:
Thank you for these reminders, and for all that you are doing!
Public Service Announcement: This is a good time to check with local/state-level campaign offices for Tasks For Introverts.
Example: our local campaign HQ needs people to come in this week and put peel-and-stick postcard stamps on a few thousand “I Will Vote” cards, to be mailed out the following week.
I’ll be sending them a large number of introverts who have been hoping for that kind of project.

@MazeDancer:
I “adopted” Delgado’s district via Swing Left and have been on a monthly donation to him for quite a while now.

Dear Amazon Prime,
Why does stuff I’ve previously watched and deleted from my queue, months and years ago, now repeatedly keep showing up again the the ‘Watch Next’ list?
For the record, gremlins is not an acceptable response.

@NotMax:
On tomorrow’s Watch Next list: Gremlins.

@zhena gogolia:
As a card-carrying Dem in CD-19, I thank you.
(More begging: Please people, write some PostCards for Delgado. There are too many GOP out there. Dem turnout is everything.,)
@H.E.Wolf:
“Tasks for Introverts” is a website waiting to happen. We’ll talk in 2020.
But I have been trying to track down how people can text-bank from a fake number online. Because in two weeks and two days, PostCarding will be over, and will need to spam the threads with something.
Ohio Mom
I’ve seen this adorable video before but did not notice the family portrait above the screen until now. It adds so much to the video — puts this lovely father-daughter moment in a larger context. A lucky little girl.

@MazeDancer: Now you’ve done it!! You’ve shamed this horrible introvert into signing up. ;-) Check your e-mail at PostcardPatriots.com
Thanks for all you’re going. It’s important, and it’s appreciated.
Cheers,
Scott.

@Another Scott: You are falling down on the job… How am I to know how many days we are out from the election if you don’t put that on your comments?? It’s 20-some-number-toward-the-middle, that’s all I know.

The editor seems stuck, even though it hasn’t timed out yet.
