This Is Kind Of Exciting

Mr. Charles Pierce reads our top-10,000 blog.

I’m going with the Balloon Juice post that includes the text of this ludicrous sludge bucket because I don’t want to give USAT any clicks on it, either.

Thanks to Quinerly for pointing this out to me.

I’m looking at the news about voter suppression in North Dakota and recalling a former grad student of mine who was not allowed to vote a couple of years ago. For medical reasons, she has no driver’s license and when voter ID first went into effect there, she tried to use her US passport and a utility bill to prove ID and residence. She was told she needed an ID issued by ND. I’m sure they have a better vetting system than the State Dept./

She and her husband have since moved their family to Canada.

Whether she agrees with his opinions or not, that’s the bottom line here. Even if she’s unhappy, she’s going to stick with it. And being trapped in the marriage is irrelevant here. She loses more than she gains by leaving, and she knows it.

She will say whatever gross thing Trump and her handlers want her to say. She’s only trotted out to somehow buff and mellow his image anyway.

I heard a pretty good (partial) explanation for the behavior of the crowds at Trump rallies. Trump is in the WWE Hall of Fame, and the crowds respond his antics as if they were watching a pro wrestling match: At some level they’re aware that it’s fake — i.e., they know he’s just making shit up — but they so want to buy into the fake morality play that they elbow this knowledge out of their consciousness, pummel it, stomp on it, and just have themselves a whale of a time as The Virile Good Guy sticks it to The Snooty Bad Guys. Empathy, sympathy, compassion be damned: We’re WINNERS now!

A lot of these kids are going to end up with long-standing psychological problems because abruptly taking children away from loving parents is very traumatic for them. And a lot of these “Christian” families are not going to care about that trauma and will expect those kids to act loving and grateful towards them from day 1.

    Really hard evidence:

First lady Melania Trump said victims who make accusations of sexual misconduct “need to have really hard evidence” in a recently taped interview, echoing a statement she made in October 2016 amid allegations against her husband.
“If you accuse (someone) of something, show the evidence,” Trump said in a sit-down interview with ABC News that took place in Kenya last week during her first major solo trip to Africa.
Trump also said she supports women, but she echoed her husband, President Donald Trump, adding that men need to be supported, too.

Well, we had her husband on tape describing how he assaults women. Ask her if that’s enough.

If you accuse someone of something you need really hard evidence:

On April 20, 2011, Melania appeared on the Joy Behar Show and backed up her husband’s allegations that Obama wasn’t born in the state of Hawaii like live birth records suggest.
“It’s not only Donald who wants to see [Obama’s birth certificate], it’s American people who voted for him and who didn’t vote for him. They want to see that,” she argued. Behar then made the point that the birth certificate had already been on display and all over the internet. “We feel it’s different than birth certificate,” Melania responded.

Unless you just have vague racist “feelings” and want to accuse the President of faking his own birth record.

She’s every bit as bad as her husband. They’re a perfect match.

My worry is this is a sign that they aren’t letting her use either locker room for the class, either forcing her to change in some place like a closet or wait until the locker room is unoccupied, and it’s only the active shooter drill that forced the issue into the open. A school that was letting her use the facilities normally wouldn’t have this problem.

Also on the TCM front, it’s worth watching the two Christopher Lee Dracula movies on tonight if you haven’t seen them before. The original is better than the sequel, but they’re both interesting.

I still remember the day Jake Tapper showed up to try and argue with the commentariat before Obama was elected in 2008. It did not go well for him.

I remember another time he showed up and Cole got all mad and screamed at us for being rude to him. Fun times.

ETA: Nope – it will be from me.

who da fuq cares what bathroom a student used to hide from and fuqn’ open shooter!

But what happens if some students feel the need to get undressed during an active shooter event?

It also begs the question, which bathroom and/or locker room is she using day to day? Did they build a separate one just for her?

By the way, “bathroom” for a room with a toilet and no bath, is a pretty silly euphemism. “Toilet” is itself a euphemism, so now we have euphemisms for euphemisms.

Now, can Tapper come back? I’m too new to have had a chance to take a shot at him. I’d want that shot to pass through the metaphorical heart of Chuck Todd first, but you can’t have everything.

I’m pretty sure she does. Some of them are very ugly, racist views, but I have little doubt she honestly holds them.

And here I was, blithely going along, thinking she was/is a Russian asset, and Vladi’s “gift” to his toady, Wormtail.

@lamh36: that really pissed me off too. apparently there wasn’t a single adult caring enough to just take the child into their room, so they symbolically left her out to die. i can only imagine how that poor kid feels.

It’s a mass shooting drill…who da fuq cares what bathroom a student used to hide from and fuqn’ open shooter! This is plain evil.

To these folks, having a trans student killed by a school shooter is a feature not a bug.
