Thought we could use a little cuteness before the crazy continues.
Welcome to the newest member of the BJ menagerie, Mouse. Jacy sent along some cute photos of her newest snuggle-bug:
This is one of my favorite photos of him – the tail curl.
What’s everyone up to this evening? Open thread

I’m glad I don’t use facebook.

Really good looking kitty. I am still at work but will leave when I get a call from my daughter, who is visiting.
Mnemosyne
Is it just me, or does Mouse have an unusually large head? ?
This shitshow of a week has me very run down. Way too many bad memories getting raked back up by Kavanaugh, and not just of harassment or assault. Need snuggles from both kitties and G, preferably at the same time.
Eljai
Mouse is adorable!
schrodingers_cat
He has the same pattern as my boss cat!

Just got a PPP poll. Interesting questions. I used to get polled about every other week this close to an election. Now it’s multiple times per day. CA-45, where we are voting between two female candidates. Results will be telling.
ArchTeryx
Tail curl means very happy kitteh. I know my ginger derp cat does it often enough when he’s around me – he knows he’s about to get pampered!

I’m supposed to be washing clothes, cleaning house, and packing to drive back to Houston for my two week shift of nanny duties. Instead I’m sitting on the couch looking at a cute kitten on the internet. I’m not looking forward to the drive, but I am anxious to see how my 5 1/2 month old granddaughter has changed in the last couple of weeks. I feel blessed to have her and her three year old sister to take my mind off of political stuff.
TaMara: I read your book and loved it. I’m eagerly looking forward to the next one.
Roger Moore
@Mnemosyne:
I think there’s some perspective distortion in some of those pictures that makes her head look bigger than it is.
TaMara (HFG)
@Josie: Oh my gosh, thank you! We will be featuring another author this weekend!
geg6
@Mnemosyne:
I feel exactly the same way. Except doggies and not kitties.
Though it may be a kitty soon. We found the cat family that had the poor kitten who died a few weeks ago. They seem to have found a way into our greenhouse. We can’t seem to capture them but we keep trying. There are three kittens. If we can get them trapped, John wants to keep one. The kittens are adorable, I must admit.

@schrodingers_cat:
Clueless dudes being clueless and insisting on arguing with me even after I tell them not push to piss me off. That’s the kind of day it is.
But soon I’ll be hanging out with G and drinking tasty beverages, so I have that to look forward to.
Mnemosyne
@TaMara (HFG):
Yay! This is the only weekend when I do NOT have a writerly thing to do, so it’s good timing.
TenguPhule
@Roger Moore:
Mouse may be willows in its ancestry.
TenguPhule
@TenguPhule: may have.
Miss Bianca
@Mnemosyne: Head seems big to me, too.
I have been getting way too little work done this week. Weekend will probably have to be for catch-up.
Mnemosyne
@geg6:
I am not the cat expert that other people are, but I think the first step towards getting them captured is to start leaving food out for them inside the greenhouse. It starts to get them used to the idea that maybe humans aren’t so scary.

Awww, what a cutie! Hi Mouse!
Dorothy A. Winsor
She’s adorable.
Tim Illingworth
@geg6: Yup: food is the way to taming them.Also, two kittens are a whole lot less trouble than one, as they play with each other rather than demanding attention from you. Three are no problem at all.

So adorable! A furry-cutie end to a rollercoaster of a day…thank you jacy and congrats on the kitty!
TaMara (HFG)
@geg6: What Tim said. Other than litterbox duty, three cats are easy, peasy.
Roger Moore
@TaMara (HFG):
Have you considered getting a litter robot?
Mnemosyne
@Miss Bianca:
We wrapped up our fiscal year this week and I’m hoping I didn’t overlook anything. We did try our best to get the bulk of it done before the end of August because of my surgery, so hopefully it’s all done.

@geg6
Truer words were never spoke.
TaMara (HFG)
@Roger Moore: I have, but I’ve been doing litterboxes for so long, it’s not that big of a deal. Each cat has one and I scoop every morning, along with my other chores, like collecting eggs and feeding and watering the crew. Now, if they had a Great Dane pooper scooper, that I might shell out the big bucks for. LOL

@Mnemosyne:
We’ve been doing that for a couple of weeks. This cat family is smart.

Our rental goats are still here until tommorrow. Amazingly efficient. Ate almost everything in sight. Ate all the leaves and most of the trunks, so not much left behind when they leave.
Also they are hilariously entertaining while just doing their jobs.
Very sweet.
Lawn service plus neighborhoo petting zoo.

My kitty (my only current pet since Hek (cat) and Puck (dog) died in the last 4 months) is short-named Mouse. Her full name is The Gray Mouser, and she is gray and long-haired and misses them both as much as I do.
rikyrah
The kitty is adorable ???
danielx
The most fun time for kittehs and their humans. On the other hand two of ours selected us as their humans in April a year ago, and there hasn’t been a day since that they haven’t made me laugh. But the kitty levitation period is the best.
TaMara (HFG)
@Sab: Oh, that sounds like fun!
John Revolta
@Adam L Silverman: I think that cat is making gang signs
MagdaInBlack
My first cat was a little grey tabby who loved to play fetch with tin foil balls.
Her name was Emmy, because…..its right there on the forehead …big old “M”
That’s a beautiful kitty ?
burnspbesq
Mouse named after the badass character in the Easy Rawlins novels?
David Anderson
Listening to the couple at the next table o er argue as to whether or not having a baby will save their relationship.
Thinking of buying them a bottle of whiskey to prevent any immediate action on any decisions arrived at tonight
Ken
@Sab: “Goats love deserts. That’s why they make so many of them.” Or words to that effect, Terry Pratchett, Small Gods IIRC.
khead
Adorable kitteh. Could be our Mason’s sibling.
RedDirtGirl
@David Anderson: Not concerned that the gift could lead to the decision being made tonight, inadvertently?
TomatoQueen
Luca says meow to Mouse and admires his shiny youthful coat. I’m wondering whether there will be goat pics.
Miss Bianca
@David Anderson: Whiskey Dick to the rescue?
MagdaInBlack
@Sab:
I want to quit my suburban job, move back “home” and have my own goat brush clearing herd.
I KNEW I was right in wanting goats way back when I had the land
Over-ruled by spouse.

@David Anderson:
Which one is for it?
HumboldtBlue
He’s beautiful. I wish I could access a picture I took of a little guy who showed up outside my kitchen window Wednesday night.
He’s just about the most beautiful cat I’ve seen with marking and colorings very similar to Mouse except they were far more uniform.
Working with the crazy cat ladies to get him fixed and homed (I already found a home across the street).
RedDirtGirl
@Miss Bianca: I envisioned the opposite outcome, but good point.
Elizabelle
@burnspbesq: Yeah. The murderous (but sexy) Mouse. LOL.
Mouse is one good looking cat.
HumboldtBlue
@Miss Bianca:
Can I just say that your tale of listening to Quadrophenia on headphones led me into a three week period of intense listening to The Who?
I’m younger than you and the full realization didn’t come until the end of the decade (thanks to my cohort of older siblings including one brother in particular I heard The Who from a young age) but got-damn I listened to the shit out of Tommy, an album I treated the way you treated Quadrophenia.
RoonieRoo
A brown classic tabby! I almost always see orange classic tabbies so that’s pretty cool to see a brown one. My brown tabby is a herringbone.
JustRuss
Mouse is a handsome fellow. Looks a lot like one of ours, who passed away about a year ago. Hope he brings you as much love and laughter as ours did.
lofgren
Jacy appears to have my cat in her house. Other than my cat’s nose being pink and hers is black, Monkey and Mouse are dead ringers.
karen marie
If your cat is puking up hairballs, the solution is simple: mineral oil. Unlike veg oil, mineral oil is not absorbed through the intestinal wall, instead it pulls the hair right out the poop chute, without giving the cat diarrhea or loose stools. Veg oil is absorbed and can cause the hsir to adhere to the intestinal wall, eventually, potentially, causing a blockage. I started dosing my cats back in the mid ’80s at my cat’s vet’s recommendation. Most cats will drink it on their own, some won’t. I give our Gracie a measured teaspoon in a tiny bowl along with her food. She typically will drink it all within 24 hours. I recommend dosing at least every two weeks to keep the hair from accumulating in the stomach. The worst that can happen if your cat has too much is a greasy butt.
Our Gracie is now 16 years old, blind, with probably only about another year left in her. I would love another kitten but after 45 years of cleaning stinky cat pans and the possibility of me outliving a new cat, I will have to forgo that pleasure.
karen marie
@karen marie: for some reason I cannot edit but, to be clear, the odds of me outliving a kitten born next year are not in my favor.
