Every damn district deserves sane representstives.
I’ve been meaning to send Doug! a writeup on Mariah Phillips, who is running to unseat the R-misogyny jerkwad Dr Scott DesJarlais in Tennessee’s 4th Confessional District, but I just haven’t pulled it together. I’ve met her, heard her answer well tough questions that were outside her wheelhouse, and sent her money. The REALLY INTERESTING young man she defeated in the primary has wholeheartedly endorsed her. Please send money if you are so inclined.

Props are due on seeing that the thermometer level has risen even without any comments being posted here: actions and contributions are sometimes better than words (especially when directed to the choir).
Ok, so probably there are now three zillion comments ahead of this, but you are jackels and thus the very definition of contrary.

I have no more money to give, but wish her well.
The Democrat in my CA49 district, Mike Levin, has put out a mini-doc called “The Truth About Diane Harkey” (his Rep. opponent). It’s about her running a Ponzi scheme with her husband through their real estate finance company. It starts with a gated community that’s just a rusted gate and low wall surrounding acres of bare dirt. It goes on to interview some of the seniors they ripped off, who took their life savings out of the bank and stock market, because the Harkeys seemed to be doing so well, then lost it all. It also shows the Harkey’s home in the Ritz Cove, a very expensive housing tract on the ocean built by Ritz Carlton, and Diane walking and brushing her thoroughbred horse. Several of the seniors say they are lifelong Republicans, but they aren’t voting for her, because she’s a crook. They sued and won damages for financial fraud and elder abuse, and won the appeal this summer, but haven’t gotten a penny back. It ends with her at a campaign event putting her hand over the lens of a camera. Very, very effective. I like the new aggressive Democrats.
It’s all over the internet in ads everywhere I go, and I see no ads for her, so I’m not asking you to send Mike money. The polls are still close, but I can’t see him losing. He’s put in the work and hired Spanish-speaking canvassers, and done all the right things. It’s even on the annoying slide-in ad on the right bottom corner here.

I have been baking all day (and I mean all day, started at 10:30 am and got done about 7pm). Neice’s birthday tomorrow great-neices’s birthday Monday. Anyhoo, musing this evening, wish someone would whisper in Twitler’s ear “yes boss you COULD fire Rosenstein but what if he DID wire tap you?” Hannity has already cottoned on to this (dammnit) and is telling Twitler directly NOT to fire Rosenstein because it is obviously a set up. Can you imagine what is going on in Twitler’s pea sized brain right now? I would hate to be a staffer in that situation. Tee Hee.

@HinTN: I sent her some moolah, after reading one of your previous endorsements, and just got a nice little thank-you card from the campaign. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I live in NANCY SMASH’s district, and she doesn’t really need my money, so I figure the best way to build on her accomplishments is to send a bunch of other good women to Washington. Go Mariah!
But instead of making the final rounds with senators and locking down pivotal swing votes last week, Kavanaugh was instead calling Republicans on the Judiciary Committee and other key allies, urging them to publicly support him and determining what questions he would face in a hearing that inevitably draws comparisons to the 1991 proceedings with Anita Hill, who had accused now-Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment.
And Democrats have plans!
As for questions for Kavanaugh, Democrats planned to hold nothing back. Democratic staff have been researching the broader culture of the prep academy world in which Kavanaugh lived while reading the writings of Mark Judge, a Kavanaugh friend who Ford said was in the room when Kavanaugh allegedly assaulted her. Judge, who has said he doesn’t want to testify, has written about how much alcohol he and his classmates consumed while in high school and details about other debaucherous behavior.
They want experts on sexual assault to testify and if Grassley won’t do it, will hold a press conference.
12.
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@Mary G: Good lord, what absolutely terrible people (Harkey et al., I mean). I hope Levin kicks her ass into a pile of nuclear waste.
In one key call, Kavanaugh told Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) that Ford had the wrong guy in mind, saying he had not attended a party like the one she described to The Washington Post. He and his allies also privately discussed a defense that would raise doubts that the attacker was Kavanaugh, rather than try to dispute that an incident involving Ford had happened.
Hang on, I thought we were supposed to believe that Ed Whalen acted completely on his own in floating that story and that Mr. Kavanaugh was shocked, shocked I tell you to hear about it.

Still musing. Was just looking at some photos of the Senators “walking down corridors looking serious”. Female staffers near them wearing short frocks. (Only one in pants). What is it that Republican women feel the need to wear short skirts in a professional setting? In my most recent life as a paralegal who went to court daily all of the women (except the very odd one or two), wore pant suits at best and pants and a contrasting jacket and top at worst. It was always pants. Yet you look on Fox News and all of the Repub women are wearing tight fitting, short dresses. It is almost like their worth is in their looks and not their smarts. Who’d a thunk it.
16.
Mary G
@Litlebritdifrnt: Yep, and all the women on Fox could be clones of each other. They must spend a ton of time on hair extensions, designer heels, and chiropractors. When I used to go to court every woman wore sneaker and put their heels on just before entering the courtroom.
17.
Mary G
@dmsilev: Yeah, if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you. Kavanaugh hired a sleezy Republican PR firm, CRC, to help him with his nomination. They also work for Judicial Watch and other Hillary haters. Whelan had help from them composing his tweets. Chuck Grassley’s spokesperson is a guy who also worked at CRC before NBC outed him for sexual harassment. But nobody talked to anyone else! And Whelan was looking at Christine Ford’s LinkedIn before her name was released. I suspect Roger Stone may be behind a lot of this.
18.
Mary G
@Mary G: NY Mag, CRC did the swift boating of Kerry too:
Ventry — who maintains an active social media presence and frequently speaks with reporters — also worked at CRC Public Relations, a prominent GOP firm known for helping to “swift boat” John Kerry in 2004, in one of the more ignoble attack campaigns in recent decades.
On Friday, Politico reported that the company had worked directly with Republican judicial activist Ed Whelan to concoct a bizarro theory that Ford had mistaken Kavanaugh with another classmate at her high school, who bore a resemblance to the judge. That thesis, which had been hinted at as providing incontrovertible evidence of Kavanaugh’s innocence, backfired spectacularly. Gentry said that the Senate Judiciary Committee had no prior knowledge of Whelan’s strategy, but questions continue to swirl about who did.
So they are long-term ratfuckers for the Republican Party.

@Mary G: The female lawyer in the office next to ours would walk back to the office in her sneakers with her heels prominently sticking out of her bag. It was so funny.

@schrodingers_cat: There’s also the Big Book that has all sorts of measured properties for a whole huge range of materials. That one’s like an (old style) phone book in size. I have a copy somewhere, but it’s been a long time since I’ve needed to look anything up in it; most of the info is more easily found in online databases now.

@schrodingers_cat: It’s a great general-purpose chemistry and physics reference. I got a 2-year old copy for $20 in high school (a special from the publisher) and I still have it.

Cheers,
Scott.

Pure gold in this WaPo article about Judge Kavanaugh’s practice for testifying again. He gets cranky and says some questions are none of their business. He’s also a bad political operator:
And Democrats have plans!
They want experts on sexual assault to testify and if Grassley won’t do it, will hold a press conference.
