Apropos of the Hayes tweet, I do think it’s time for me to start asking supporters of “zero tolerance” whether they want to apply that standard to everyone in the Trump Administration.

hearing stories about the Border Patrol refusing asylum entries at the POE’s, so they’re “forcing” those that desperately want to be in the US to cross illegally, where presto chango, now they’ve committed a misdemeanor and have the case for being detained, self fulfilling prophecy? Hayes last tweet about Kushner et al is incredibly telling about how Trump viewed damn near everything, with him, laws don’t, haven’t picked a side, well then you’re obviously against him and the full punitive weight of the legal system and whatever else he can throw together will be used against you.

There was no immigration crisis or border crisis until January 2017. The current situation is the deliberate policy created the current occupant of the WH under the guidance of anti-immigrant think tanks of Tanton. FAIR, CIS, Numbers USA and the senators Sessions and Grassley who have been long term sympathizers of these policies.

His world is the one in his head, where his fort has only white people in it. Racists are basically isolationists. The world they can understand is a tiny little place with no one in it that doesn’t look like them and/or have exactly the same values. They have simple minds, they can’t comprehend that people that don’t look like them can be in any way equal. Seven billion people? Doesn’t compute. People that don’t look like them? Doesn’t compute that they are people. Money is green dollars when it isn’t gold. That computes for them, any other color or name is phony. They are simple people, salt of the earth. Too much will kill you of course.
It’s nice to think that white people really only make up what a billion or two in this world, the other 5-6 billion aren’t white. And even a good portion of the white people don’t give a shit about the color/language/origin of anyone else. ‘

I was just looking at Trump’s morning tweet stream and the replies.

Leading up to the election in 2016 we heard all sorts of talk from right wingers that they will take actions via 2nd Amendment solutions if things don’t go their way. At the time I discounted it as talk from losers. After the election though, far too many of these same folks crowed their victory and said how sad they were that they now couldn’t shoot dirty libs. That scared me.

Seeing what those same groups are now saying, when they get crushed come this November’s elections (and they will be crushed thank FSM) I am now worried some of these nut cases will do exactly that. It isn’t as if the Administration is trying to calm them. No, this administration is trying to spin it up. Shit is going to get real. Come the post election period, be careful out there. But the evidence that reaches my own eyes and ears tells me these Trump people are dick-stomping incompetents who are not exactly running a well-oiled machine. Makes also me wonder if The Tonight’s Show parody of Miller as a man child who’s only friends are a cage full of rats and incapable of empathy isn’t way to close to the mark.

Seriously, as politically strategy how does this family separation policy benefits even the Trumpsters? Wouldn’t it be easier just to turn the refuges back at the border ? It’s not like Trump’s base is going to do anything but vote Trump.

@raven: This Aatish person is an idiot. Some of his earlier op-eds are Friedmanesque, he would drop into some Indian town speak to a cab driver/boat man (probably imaginary) then draw sweeping conclusions about all of India on the basis of those conversations. His mother, Tavleen Singh, a prominent journalist is now a well known Modi sycophant, will defend Modi’s policies no matter what.
Unsurprisingly there are vestiges of British influence in post colonial India especially among the small slice of Indians who were low to mid level bureaucrats for the Empire (the English speaking elite). But Britain ceased to be a destination for ambitious Indians since the 70s at least, which would be my parents’ generation. The relatives I have in England are my grandparents’ generation. So Britain’s influence over India waned long before Brexit.

But the backlash over the policy has opened cracks in Miller’s support network on Capitol Hill and among Republicans both inside and outside the White House, who have viewed the separation of migrant families as a huge political and policy misstep for the White House — and, for some, as a moral lapse.
“He led the president down a path that again ended in disaster,” said one Republican congressional staffer. “The Muslim ban and the immigration executive order are things that have activated both sides of the aisle and caused widespread pushback and disgust. They are also incompetents because they want the world to conform to their opinions and half baked educations. It doesn’t, that’s why they fail. Their beliefs do not conform to reality and reality doesn’t give a flying fuck about them. This doesn’t dissuade them. And all those bright shining young white people learn from their failures and pick up the burden of undermining and misinforming the masses.

Meanwhile, moderates & leftists tend to lose focus, expend energy on personal crusades and fall out over disagreement on very big plans that are very glamorous compared to daily drudge work.
