Sound like a crappy experience.
jl
Liquid pig shit!? The new frontier of the poop beat on BJ blog? Hell, I’m all in.
Edit: having tended pigs, I know that is bold step. Hats off to the brave BJ brass for going forward on this.
Baud
Apt description of Election 2016.
TenguPhule
@Baud:
I was thinking more along the lines of xenomorph blood at that.
TenguPhule
This is all kinds of fucked up.
The Dangerman
Is there some sort of deal if we all get sprayed with LPS, Trump goes away? If so, I’m in.
Gin & Tonic
@jl: I thought that thread earlier today about dogs pooping various items of clothing was quite enough.
TaMara (HFG)
OMG, just say no to daylilies. They will take over your yard. Unless of course you want that.
?BillinGlendaleCA
So I’m guessing that it wouldn’t be advisable to listen while eating dinner.
jl
@Gin & Tonic: Informed and responsible coverage of animal poop disasters is one of the unique strengths of this blog. Probably what got it into the almost top 10,000.
TenguPhule
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Or immediately after.
In fact, unless you want to go on an extended diet, perhaps just get the highlights from someone else.
John Cole
I sound stuffed up and I’m loud.
TenguPhule
@John Cole:
That’s just the liquid pig shit talking.
jl
@John Cole: Of course.
Looks like a Manafort post disappeared. See, nothing bigfoots animal poop on this here blog. No way.
MomSense
Being sprayed with liquid pig shit could only be the topic on a B-J podcast and I am here for it.
debbie
I always fall for the disappearing posts!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@jl: Cole wants you to feel at home, jl.
ETA: This is, after all, a full service blog.
ET
I think I need to listen if for no other reason than to hear about the liquid pig shit.
Jager
In the words of the late Fred Heckman, a much honored and revered radio news director, “it’s all good material sonny, but you have to learn how to fucking edit your shit!”
There is a free piece of software called Audacity. It’s the equivalent of a professional broadcast digital recording and editing machine. Works to beat hell.

John you sound fine, you need to perform, voice act, a bit, cuts the monotone. Same thing with you mistermix. (and to think I used to get paid for advice like this)
waysel
@ET: Yeah, the LPS is what they refer to as a ‘tease’ in the biz. Who could resist?
Starfish
@Jager: JOHN IS LOUD.
Jager
@Starfish: Loud and monotone, because he doesn’t know what he’s doing, just turn the damn mic down. Does the podcast mixer have a VU meter? If it’s always in the red zone, the mic is too hot, occasional jumps into the red are ok. Christ, if Ryan Seacrest can do this shit, anybody can.
schrodingers_cat
@Jager: Do you have a suggestion for a microphone? I made a podcast and there was a lot of dead air while I constructed my thoughts in my head. I realized that I needed a more detailed script than the notes I had scribbled.
chopper
sounds legit.
John Cole
@Jager: SO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS YOU VOLUNTEER TO DO THE SOUND ENGINEERING FOR THE NEXT ONE THAT IS WHAT I AM HEARING.
jl
@John Cole: Nice podcast. Thanks for the tip on using battery acid to fix a toothache.
Full service blog, household hints, and cheerful content.
Jager
@John Cole: @John Cole: No, pretty hard to do from the Canyon to WVA.
@schrodingers_cat: How much do you want to spend? What are you going to record it on? What are you using now to create the podcast?
When you write the script, you have to write it like people talk…like you talk. Early on in radio, the news was read directly from the newspaper, they quickly learned you had to communicate (write) like you’re telling a story. Best way is to write the story and visualize yourself telling it to one person. There is no audience, just one other person.
schrodingers_cat
@Jager: I used my smart phone. My budget is $20. I used Audacity to clean it up. It was a chat, discussing a movie.
Jager
@schrodingers_cat: Get a condenser mic, You can get a shitty one for 25 bucks or get a pretty damn good one for $100. Check ebay and amazon.
My old broadcast pals and I are putting together a podcast network. One of the engineers I used to work with is out shopping for used pro equipment, I haven’t heard from the bastard for a week, then again he’s old and lives on Cape Cod, he may have wandered into the surf and drowned. I better check with his wife. Audacity is pretty good. Machines with that capability cost 10-12k in the 90’s
schrodingers_cat
@Jager: Thanks for your input, your tips are pretty helpful.
Jager
@schrodingers_cat: If we get our little network put together, maybe we can throw in some movie reviews.
John Cole
@Jager: This was a conference call with me on a gaming headset in WV and Mistermix on a phone in rochester. I am not sure why you think your location makes a difference.
Starfish
@John Cole: Mistermix sounds pretty good. He has such a calm voice.
John Cole
@Starfish: I can take a hint.
schrodingers_cat
@John Cole: FWIW I think you have a nice voice.
Ohio Mom
That was enjoyable to listen to as I puttered around the house — John’s booming voice did not bother me because I have a set of volume control buttons on my phone. I thought everybody does but maybe I am mistaken. Now I want to know what the first two podcasts are, and where they are.
Mistermix asked something I’ve long wondered about, Mom and Pop Cole’s political affiliations. It sounds like they are not yet ready to stop calling themselves Republicans, even if in spirit they have moved on.
I also got an inkling of why West Virginia has such a hold on our blog host. Finally, as one of those (later) boomers, Yes, I do object.
The real stick-in-the-muds seem to me to be the cohort slightly before the Boomers — I think they are called the Silent Generation — and the cohort that is now in their fifties. The 50+ year olds I know tend to be missing the sort of social critique we called a raised consciousness back in the day. But the big divide remains as always, the 1% vs. the rest of us. They are the ones who want us to think one age group or another are our nemesis.
And now it’s time for my evening adulations.
Starfish
@John Cole: Around 51:57,there is a squeak as you discuss which dog would be the better President. Was that one of the dogs?
John Cole
@Starfish: Rosie since she was in the room.
Jager
@John Cole: Well okay then, but controlling and mixing on two phones from another phone might be a, ah problem. If the 4 of us old broadcast farts get our network put together we could take phone audio from anywhere and remix into a studio quality sound. If my old engineer pal is still alive out on the tip of Cape Cod, I’ll bring it up. BTW, he’s the guy who built WGBH”s live performance studio and the rest of their set up. The World and other WGBH shows are produced there.
schrodingers_cat
@Jager: That would be nice! thanks.

Okay, I have only listened to a few minutes of your podcast. John, you are right about the economics of tillers and rental. One piece of advice: invest in some shear pins. If you have rocks you are going to need them, and you will want to have them at the ready.
ETA they will be less of an issue after you have gone through several tillings but they can be hard to come by on short notice.
Gretchen
Good podcast. As predicted, I have an objection to the Boomer portion of the podcast. The idea sounds like, the Boomers get social security, the millennial won’t, so nobody should. No, no, no. That’s always been the way the 1% divide us. They convinced the free whites that just because they had a little bit more than the slaves, they shouldn’t join with the slaves to overthrow the 1% who were grabbing all the goods and keeping them both down. And they’re still at it. Rather than strengthening social security so it will be there for the millennials, they won’t take the very simple fixes, like raising the income cap, which will keep social security solvent indefinitely. Because they want all the money. Most of the money isn’t enough for them. They’d rather we all eat cat food and die in a gutter so they can have all the money.
And, millennial, if your parents don’t have social security, what will happen? Will Mom be living in your basement? Wouldn’t you rather fund a tax structure that will provide a secure retirement for both Mom and yourself than having Mom living in your basement and weighing in on your life choices when you are 60 and she is 90?

This blog definitely fosters a sense of community. It’s like my virtual home.
sukabi
@The Dangerman: no, if it’s Drumpf & team deplorable getting sprayed, and sprayed, and sprayed until LPS is 6 ft. deep on them, then I’m in.

I love podcasts and am excited about this, but I wish you’d put it out on something other than (or in addition to) Soundcloud. I listen to podcasts by downloading .mp3s to a player – I am phone impaired- and SC seems to want to know a lot about my computer to let me add the app. Could you use Podbay? I hate streaming on my PC.
