I would guess that KC hates her job and her boss even more. I bet she comes home to George, vents big-time, and he kind of gets mad for her and jumps onto the Tweetwork.

Perfect song reference!

lol Paul Ryan backed down and Father Conway can stay as chaplain.

They probably hate each other. Natch.

@JPL:
That APB for Paul Ryan’s spine demands addition of a fat reward to get anybody to tackle the search.
OTOH the Jesuits seem to have provided Father Conway with a spine of steel. I like how he handled this.

@JPL:
I guess it depends on what ‘the wheels are coming off’ means. I hear a lot of descriptions like this, but they’re so vague, I think they lead to muddled answers. Is the Trump White House descending into a chaos of backbiting and ineffectualism? Sure, but it’s been like that, hasn’t it? Is prosecution for crimes closing in on Trump and his associates? Seems like it, but that will probably keep moving at a snail’s pace. It’s a Pit And The Pendulum scenario, where they can’t escape as punishment gradually, inexorably descends. Are we nearing Trump leaving office? I seriously doubt it. There are no signs the Senate is anywhere near willing to convict him, and that and heart failure are the only things I can imagine removing him from office before 2020. Neutering of Republican damage in our government? Well, congress is probably frozen until the election, and what happens afterwards will depend upon the election. Hard to guess until then. The executive branch will continue to flop around and refuse to do their jobs. The media turning on the Republican Party? Probably not, although they’re slowly becoming more willing to shame Trump.
The American public getting pissed enough at the Republican Party to enact real electoral change?
God, I hope so.

You can tell a Jesuit that you’d rather have a Protestant as your spiritual advisor and he’ll nod while mentally calling you a fool. But claiming that he was giving bad spiritual advice? There’s a reason that Jesuits are traditionally called “God’s Soldiers,” and it ain’t because they’re known for their pacifism.
Seriously, Ryan’s not much of a Catholic if he thought he could fuck with a Jesuit and come out of it whole.

So. FBI is “monitoring” Cohen’s numbers, not listening to his calls? NBC blew that story and everyone hopped without confirming.
2) Mueller asked VA for 70 blank subpoenas?! That’s 35 if making a copy for the defense.

MisterForkbeard
@West of the Rockies: Nah. They’re professional enough to not do this. KAC would have stopped him after the first time if it was an issue for her, not let him do it repeatedly.
I subscribe to the “This is KAC and her husband’s recipe for remaining acceptable in Washington and Society. KAC is only pretending to be an evil soulless liar in support of Trump, and you can tell because her husband thinks Trump is full of shit.” They’re doing this to keep their options open.

Good luck overcoming that Senate filibuster, unless there’s some reconciliation coming up I’m not aware of. This, by the way, is why we want the filibuster. Can you imagine what they’d be doing without it?

@VeniceRiley: I read that he also filed for the same last month, so 70 in total.
Joyce Harmon
@VeniceRiley:
Or… did they? Speculating – what if the Mueller team used some cutout to leak a story that Cohen’s phone was tapped, and then sat back to see what would happen? The last couple days of Team Trump’s frantic flailing could be a direct result of that.
Roger Moore
@Quinerly:
Those sound like actual mistakes rather than trying to hide something, but one gets the feeling his people are sloppy about filing those forms because they’ve concluded there’s no penalty for making a mistake.
dmsilev
@rikyrah: McConnell has said a few times that he doesn’t have any interest in jumping into that sausage grinder again, especially not just a few months before the midterms. And remember, now that Doug Jones is in the Senate, The Turtle has one less vote to play with. Two less if McCain is medically unavailable. Just based on those numbers and even putting aside the filibuster question, it’s a pretty high-risk gamble.
efgoldman
Conway is the attorney (one of the attorneys) who won the suit for Bill Clinton to answer a subpoena to testify.
Attorneys often argue both sides across time, but Conway apparently couldn’t keep up the pretense.

@dmsilev:
Hmmm. I guess McConnell never actually declared the ACA repeal bill dead, so maybe he has a way around the filibuster if he chooses it. Or has that timed out? Actually, it has, hasn’t it? Because the tax nightmare took the slot. So, yeah, filibuster, McConnell has given up, and their odds of passing anything are even worse than last time. But man, there’s always some complete fucking asshole in the GOP caucus who just can’t let go of that ecstatic rush that comes from plunging millions into misery and death.

I saw Chuckles talking bout a segment on the GOP congress critters campaigning for Chump to get a Nobel Peace Prize.
If the Nobel Peace Committe REALLY wants to keep SOME integrity or if they EVER cared about the integrity of there award …they would find a way to make sure Chump’s name NEVER get close to any damn peace prize…
Roger Moore
@MisterForkbeard:
It could also be that KAC is trying to get fired because she thinks it would be better for her career. Anyone associated with Trump is going to have to explain that association in the future. One vaguely plausible explanation will be that they signed on with Trump because they were patriots who thought he needed the help of experienced hands, even if they disapproved of him personally. It’s a vaguely plausible excuse, and being fired because your husband continued to speak unfortunate truths about him would go along with it nicely.

@Frankensteinbeck: To run reconciliation again, they’d first need to pass a new budget (the reconciliation instructions are part of that).

I really do think that because Conway wasn’t a true Orange Julius believer, she’s starting to feel the effects of her actions. She’s Serena Joy.
The Aunt Lydia comparison from Handmaid’s Tale was really apt, Sanders is definitely Aunt Lydia, the only time she’s even a tiny bit discombobulated up there is when she’s completely out of the loop. Even that doesn’t throw her off her game that much.
But Kellyanne is much more like Serena Joy, in that I don’t think she expected it to turn out this way. She’s essentially become someone who once was powerful, but realizes that her own actions have taken away her power as the candidate she transferred her loyalty to, against all the odds, won. Her career as a GOP power broker is gone. The tiny amount of power she has left is to lie for her boss. It feels like she used to be a Phyllis Schafly, now she’s Serena Joy.

@West of the Rockies: My take is like yours. Kellyanne goes home and vents to George, and he gets mad on her behalf and vents publicly.
The movie Georgie Girl was what I did on my very first date, back in the dark ages. I was 12.
Tenar Arha
@Mnemosyne: Mental illness might explain the sudden acting out, but it doesn’t explain the toxic ideas he’s spouting. His evident bouncy joyousness could just as easily be the release after an extended creative high of recording, or the calculation that he’ll sell more records with lots of controversy swirling. And if it is bipolar disorder, bringing that up in the context of his current behavior is still stigmatizing mental illness like it leads to violence, bigotry, or just plain uninformed a-holery.
Bipolar disorder is not an reason for not reading, not listening to his colleagues/friends, or even *gasp* to experts on the history, business, mechanisms, control methods which have all been deeply investigated about slavery and how it actually works. The ideas, that’s him, not some disease. (Although if he is sick, he’s got the money to access the best treatment around).

@Tenar Arha:
As Bill said, it was reported last year that Kanye spent some time at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute (NPI), which is a heavy-duty psychiatric hospital. They do not send you there for rehab, or for “dehydration and exhaustion.” You go there when the people around you are concerned that you might harm yourself or others.
It’s not an excuse for his assholery, but he does seem to struggle periodically with a serious mental health issue, and this seems to be one of those times based on what he’s doing and saying. YMMV.
