On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!
Today, pictures from valued commenter J R in WV.
This is a set of wildlife from Cochise County AZ, where Sandhill Cranes winter by the tens of thousands. There are also many raptors, deer, foxes, coatimundi, raccoons, and lions

For the glowing eyes deer, where you using auto-focus? That might account for the glowing eyes.
ETA: The sun’s a real pain in the ass to take pictures around. I’ve found some success underexposing by 2 stops and then bringing out the dark parts in post. That requires shooting RAW.
Gin & Tonic
Good morning from Munich airport.

@Gin & Tonic: Not Gin & Tonic in the MUC?
Gin & Tonic
@?BillinGlendaleCA: That’s somebody else’s act.

Love sandhill cranes! Hawks too, but the cranes are special to me. I need to go check to find out when and where I can go see them this year. Thanks JR
Elizabelle

Back in the Southwest today. Beautiful pictures ?

@Gin & Tonic: Grab a pretzel, a pair of Weißwurst, and a glass of wheat beer.
And don’t forget the right type of mustard.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@otmar: There is no mustard, the mustard is a myth.

I like the hawk in flight photos. The deer is so cute, and hard to spot when their color matches the landscape. thank you JR.
MomSense
Beautiful!
Waratah
@Gin & Tonic: Good morning, I envy you.
Gin & Tonic
@raven: Not always, but I get direct flights to Munich or Frankfurt from Logan.
Gin & Tonic
@Waratah: Well I am now in Stockholm.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
No, it was nearly dark, and the deer was looking directly at me. So kind of red eye, but mule-deer colored green. Blow that up for a better look.
I think I have these in the Nikon version of Raw, and I’ve just started using RawTherapee to edit those before using GIMP to resize them for
sending to Alain.
@Gin & Tonic:
And we love you for that! Lucky dawg to be in the land of the midnight sun (well, nearly) this time of year! Take a picture!!

@Waratah:
The deer were a little hard to see, but nothing like the fox, which I almost put in this set again. He was off to the left as we drove away from the house-building site one evening.
There’s one photo which I know has the fox in it, because the frame before he’s is obvious and the frame after he is obvious, but in the specific middle frame I can’t see him at all. Where’s Red? He’s in Visible!
An amazing picture of a very scarce nocturnal critter. Maybe.
