Just got off the phone with the hospital a few minutes ago, and she is doing well. Her platelet and red blood cell counts have increased, and she ate a little, but the nurse doesn’t really have a whole lot of information for me yet. They are going to fast her so they can do some tests, and the doctor is supposed to call between 11-4 to give me a consultation.

Keeping her in my prayers.

Woke up thinking about Lily and hoping she was doing better. Sounds promising. Keeping her, and you, in my thoughts.
And thank you for keeping your jackals updated.

Waiting sucks. I’m pleased that she is doing better though.

Been wondering all morning. Thanks for letting us know, even if it’s just that we don’t know anything yet.

Healing vibes to sweet Lily! Maybe the fact that no obvious cause has jumped out yet is a positive thing, since the doc said the issue presenting on its own without an underlying cause is the best-case scenario. Thanks for keeping us updated! Everyone is pulling for the little lady — and you!
Josie
Thanks for this, John. I looked for Lily news first thing this morning. It sounds hopeful.
Aleta
Thanks for the update.
Gex
Me and my two are sending our best wishes. Thinking of you two. Thanks for the updates.

Thank you for the update. Been refreshing all morning waiting anxiously. I would also consider this a good update even if the information is slow. Good vets working the problem slowly and methodically.
OzarkHillbilly
Thanx for the update.

Keeping you in my thoughts. Hang in there.
Cermet
Those are both great signs – especially that her counts are increasing on their own.
Tinare
Keeping you both in my thoughts for a positive outcome.

The waiting is the hardest part. Seems like somebody once wrote a song about that…

Hang in there. One upside: you got Lily started toward recovering early in the week when vet coverage is far more wide ranging in expertise than on a weekend.
Fair Economist
Continuing to wish both of you the best.

We’re all rooting for her. She will be fine. She will.

Sending all healing wishes to you and your best bud.

We are all praying for Lily. She’s in good hands. You have to take care of yourself too, Cole.

Mr hitchhiker saw me open my laptop and said, “Lily update?” He doesn’t even read bj.
I said this yesterday, but maybe it got lost: I’d love to see a Lily calendar, with that photogenic sweetie featured every month.
Teddys Person
Sending healing and comforting thought from the left coast. Teddy’s keeping his paws crossed for a speed recovery for dear, sweet Lily.

i hope the results and consult come earlier in the day instead of later and the news is all good.

Whenever I’ve had sick pets spending a night at the vet, the ones that didn’t make it went downhill overnight. The fact that Lily’s doing okay this morning sounds encouraging.
Sending healing thoughts.
eclare
Thank you for the update, keeping you two in my thoughts.

@Mingobat (f/k/a Karen in GA):
Yeah, that’s true. My sweet kitty died the following morning. I was a mess. Just thinking about it and I start tearing up.
Trinity
Sending much love and strength to you both. It is good to hear that there has been some improvement.

Thanks for the update. Sending positive thoughts.

@Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et Al.): I know. Somebody who should still be with us.

Best to Lily and John. Sounds like she’s on the mend.

So glad to have the update on Lily. I have been sending the mind-meld of love to Lily since yesterday. Hope her tuner is set on receive.
Lymie
I was looking up thrombocytopenia (just to understand) and it leaps out at me that one of the causes is leptospirosis, a bacterial infection we have a bit of up here in New England from rodents and deer. I vaccinate the dogs because we live out in the woods surrounded by deer and the dogs are always after the poop.
Long story short – treatable with antibiotics.
Fingers crossed for Lily!
Nicole
Thank you for the update!

Thanks for letting us know. Take care of yourself while you’re taking care of her.

Thanks for keeping us updated, John. Is there a chance you can go visit her? Seeing you might perk her up even more. Maybe I’m crazy, but I always worry that my pets from shelters think I’ve left them forever when I have to leave them somewhere.
oldster
Good luck, John. You’re a good man, and Lily is the best of dogs.
raven
@debit: When Raven got cancer we took him to Auburn for treatment because they had the correct equipment. He was there for 6 weeks and we could pick him up Friday ay 4 and had to have him back by Sunday noon. It was 360 miles round trip but we did it just so the little fella didn’t feel abandoned.
WereBear
Keeping positive thoughts going…

@raven: You are making me cry.

Keeping you and Lily in my thoughts. I know you need need her Cole and she is not leaving you yet.

Thanks for the update, John. Hang in there. Sending good thoughts to Lily and you.

Thanks for keeping us updated. We are all sending love and best wishes.
ETA if you’ve had a beloved pet in the hospital you know how awful it can be… sounds like she has excellent care.
Barbara
@Lymie: I am sure these are very experienced vets, but I made a similar comment based on an experience I had with my dog. The dog ate too much of a bone that my nanny gave him, and it fragmented in his intestines, requiring emergency hospitalization and a stay in the ICU. Even though the bleeding was addressed and they confirmed no perforation, he was having a really hard time. They finally ran a bunch of tests and discovered that he had Lyme disease, and when they began treating him he bounced back almost immediately. So any kind of underlying chronic condition, virus, or parasite could probably make another condition much worse. Wishing for good news on Lily!
Planetpundit
Good to hear; you and Lily are in my thoughts
Sloane Ranger
This is good news. Fingers and toes crossed for Lillie and don’t forget to look after yourself.
CliosFanBoyNeeWoodrowfan
huge hugs for you both…….
Ruckus
Fasting blood checks are very normal, I do them every 4 to 6 months. Sounds like things are progressing, and that Lily is resting and improving. Sometimes no news is the best news.
All the best to both of you.

The hospital does understand, I trust, that this patient is LILY of BJ Fame and Adoration. Plus she is JOHN COLE’S Muse.
There’s no need to mention that BJ readers are completely obsessed with her well being.
PaulWartenberg
Even the Who are fans. They wrote that song, didn’t they?
sukabi
Sending more good vibes your way…if the vet hasn’t called by 3pm give them a “Hi, just checking in.” call…wouldn’t want you stressing out all night because they got busy and the call slipped thru the cracks.☺
WaterGirl
@Barbara: Hopefully because this is a big animal hospital, they will be looking for zebras as well as horses.
debit
Anyone else hitting refresh hoping for an update?
WaterGirl
@debit: That would be me.

@WaterGirl:
Ditto. And likely large crowd of others. Though likely to be a new post, thought would check here, too.

C’mon, Lily darling, stay with us and find remission.
