I think I have figured out the Trump hiring procedures. They go like this:
Q: Are you qualified for this position?
A: Not in any way, shape, or form, but I did stay in a Trump hotel.
Q: Do you have a large social media presence and an easily discoverable history of past racially and otherwise bigoted statements?
A: Of course.
Q: Do you read Gateway Pundit?
A: I’m a valued commenter.
Q: State the first commandment.
A: Trump is thy God; thou shalt not have strange gods before the Donald.
EXCELLENT! You’re hired.
In other news:
A political appointee at the Department of Health and Human Services shared an image in 2017 that said “our forefathers would have hung” Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for treason, a CNN KFile review has found.
Ximena Barreto is a far-right political pundit who in December 2017 joined the Trump administration as deputy director of communications at the department.
Barreto was placed on leave by the department on Monday after the liberal watchdog Media Matters reported that Barreto called Islam “a cult” and pushed the false Pizzagate conspiracy theory, which alleged that Clinton was part of a child-sex ring based in part at a Washington, DC, pizza restaurant.
A subsequent KFile review of her Twitter account “RepublicanChick” found that Barreto also repeatedly used the hashtag #BanIslam and twice shared conspiracy theories about the death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.
Barreto also shared a conspiracy theory that French President Emmanuel Macron was controlled by the Rothschild family and that Clinton and Obama were controlled by investor and Democratic mega-donor George Soros. Both the Rothschilds and Soros are frequent targets of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
Our government is now just jampacked with every bottom feeder the internet can burp up. When Democrats get back in charge the denazification is going to take up the entire first term.

I’m going to have to bring this up with the Elders at the next meeting. We clearly have an OPSEC problem!//

Ximena sounds suspiciously foreign to me. Up against the wall!

@Adam L Silverman: I don’t know about you, but I’m still waiting on my check from Soros. Dude never pays on time.

This is good news:
Also, from what Gen Dunford stated at the press briefing, this was a very limited set. So I think we’ll find that the reports of striking Hezbullah sites are erroneous. Pretty much this was a very minimalist targeting set. If what Gen Dunford has indicated is correct, then Bolton lost on this. Bigly!

Macron is controlled by the Rothschilds, that’s a new one to me.

Trump looks at a pic of the guy, checks that he looks like him (aka, white man) and asks if he’ll play ball and be loyal.

I went my first Ds meeting, held in the local old school New England church. The venue had to be shifted from the fire and police station at the last minute because they got a lot more people than they were expecting. We have 8 candidates running for an open state legislature seat, 4 men and 4 women, one woman was a Latina, one of the candidates is a college student. They were thoughtful and were collecting signatures to get on the ballot. I was pretty impressed. Almost forgot about the Tangerine Tragedy in the WH.

@Adam L Silverman: Since this thread seems poised to take off into randomness, I need some hockey talk….
I’ve been watching hockey for 50++ years.
I don’t understand what the losing team has to gain by losing their shit at the end of a blowout. (Wild tonite, for instance)
Also a ten goal turnaround in two games (Pens/Flyers). WTF?
If Vegas wins even one series, a story for the ages. They’re fun to watch.
[we can talk hockey – raven’s gone to bed]

@efgoldman:
Didn’t you marry a shiksa?
Adam L Silverman
@efgoldman: The Devils did a bit of that last night against the Bolts. My understanding is that it is basically attempting to send a message that you may have one tonight, but we’re ready to fight now, next game, whenever, so don’t get cocky.
I was watching the various breaking news, so didn’t see the ends of any of the early games. Am just getting ready to check on the Knights’ game.
efgoldman
@Steeplejack:
Twice (two different shiksas.)
First one converted. Didn’t matter. Two years and done.

On the same day Trump called James Comey a proven leaker and liar, he pardoned Scooter Libby, a convicted leaker and liar. That some accomplishment.

I’m offline for a few hours and we’ve bombed Syria and managed to get the UK and France to join us as well? WTF?
And examples need to be made. No more of this looking forward not back crap.
@Adam L Silverman:
Praise FSM!
efgoldman
@Adam L Silverman: The Pens gave up a cup-winning goalie in expansion?
Adam L Silverman
@efgoldman: I didn’t understand that one. But they basically had two top notch goalies and decided to keep the younger one. Fleury clearly has several highly productive years ahead of him.
Steeplejack
@efgoldman:
Well, there you go. No wonder the elders left you out. You’ve got the jungle fever!
efgoldman

@Adam L Silverman:
Roenick, always an assshole, justifying the Wild breakdown at the end. Bullshit.
bmoak
@efgoldman:
50 plus years of watching hockey? I never realized Stan Fischler was here on Balloon Juice…. What the Wild did isn’t nearly as stupid as what Nazem Kadri did against Boston in Game 1, and he just got slapped with a three-game suspension. IMHO, he could’ve also gotten suspensions, or at least gotten tossed, for his FIRST hit putting Wingels’ face into the boards and for trying to blow out Rick Nash’s knee earlier in the game.
Jeffro
Here’s Trumpov’s hiring philosophy:
1) Will you be loyal to me no matter what?
2) Are you against the mission of the agency I’m about to nominate you to and/or do you pledge to do the opposite of whatever Obama did/would do?
3) Do you promise to work tirelessly to promote the interests of big business/billionaires, with the occasional nod to the religious right if necessary?
You will, you are, you promise? YOU’RE IN!!
efgoldman
@bmoak:
Good players (and Khadri’s a good player) lose their shit. I don’t understand.
Yes, I go back to original six, goalies without masks, no helmets, Bobby Orr with two knees…..
NBC or CBS used to broadcast a game on Saturday afternoons. I started watching as a kid.

@guachi:
drumpf is too stupid to change his presentation from his master, Vlad.
bmoak
@efgoldman:
You can only protect one goalie in expansion and it was a no-brainer for the Pens to expose Fleury, who is ten years older than Matt Murray and has a hefty contract. Remember, Murray was the playoffs starter for the Pens last two Cups and Fleury had a GAA over 3 last season.
Florida’s the team that Vegas feasted on in the expansion. The Panthers gave away Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault for a 4th round pick
Ruckus
@Cacti:
So let’s see, wilmer toed/toes the republican party line about a decent candidate and his moronic followers think he’s a lefty? Dumb motherfuckers is the correct answer.

Slightly OT, but remember one of the juicier tibits in the Steele dossier that Trump’s consigliere Michael Cohen had snuck over to Prague in 2016 for a meeting with Russian operatives to discuss their “contributions” to the upcoming election? And remember how Cohen brushed this off, claiming, sure, he had been in Italy or something, but his passport showed no travel to the Czech Republic so all y’all can STFU? And remember how we were all “that’s a ridiculous excuse, because once you’re in the EU, your passport wouldn’t show if you travelled from, say Italy to the CR”
Well, guess where Mueller caught Michael Cohen traveling in 2016?

So, my two thoughts on the night:
1) It’s not beyond possibility that Trump/Putin are play-acting a little “See, we’re not pals” to take in the gullible, and that Russia won’t do anything but mutter a little in response
2) Trump probably thinks he Won the Evening by knocking the Cohen stuff off the air (bombs having acted as shiny object for the cable news networks), but my confident prediction is that the Cohen/Prague revelation will have a considerably longer shelf-life

This is all kayfabe. Trump and Putin will talk tough and then pretend to make-up—allowing Trump to pretend he’s both a great statesman and a badass unafraid to threaten war with Russia.
Friggin’ CNN is already slobbering about Trump’s magnificence as I type these words, with village idiot Chris Clizza on the Twitters playing accompaniment on a child-sized banjo (slightly out of tune).

@Adam L Silverman: I felt heartsick when I heard about the strikes in Syria at around 11. I was having a great time playing music with friends, and all of a sudden I was envisioning only 3 months left with a workable planet. But coming here has calmed me down quite a bit. Thank you, Adam, for the valuable insight, and to the larger BJ community for bringing me off the edge. You guys are the best.

@hervevillechaizelounge:”This is all kayfabe. ”
I think more than 50-50 it’s kayfabe.
Not much beyond pro wrestling kayfabe is within Trump’s grasp.
Maybe pro-wrestling PR and kayfabe is the competent businessman type approach Trump wants to bring to the WH.

@Matt McIrvin:
The first thing they do if they get a super majority (please, please) is to put in nationwide vote by mail. I think we can get rid of the outdated poll stations. It also makes the ballot equally accesible to everyone and nobody is going to be surpressing votes by stupid gimmicks by southern old gentlemans. Then start protecting the vote.
THEN we can start cleaning shit up.
T S
@cain: We’ll have to be on their collective asses to actually do any of these things. Or maybe the new crop of candidates coming in are better. The youngs are really inspiring, I’ve got to say. Not a lead-addled brain among them.
? ?? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ? ?
@Matt McIrvin:
Dead thread, and I don’t want to be overconfident or anything but it’s virtually a lock barring election shenanigans/Wag The Dog scenarios. We have historical trends at our backs. The president’s party nearly always gets clobbered in mid-terms elections. If this doesn’t happen, then the GOP should be declared illegimate and booted from office. They can leave voluntarily or can be carried out. The choice is ultimately theirs.

Trump also called the victim a “crazy Jew,” which is getting absolutely no attention in the press.
Even today the MSM parses the fuck out of every sentence Hillary Clinton utters but Trump can say literally anything because his constant lies have somehow inoculated him against any repercussions for his verbal misdeeds.
I want Trump gone yesterday, but if he’s going to stick around could he please start imprisoning journalists? God knows we’ll get there eventually, and I could use a little pick-me-up right about now.

@bmoak: The Panthers totally fucked themselves over. Not only did they give up Smith and Marchessault, they fired the head coach in a humiliating way earlier in the season. Gallant was a damn good coach and taking an expansion team to the playoffs proves it. Don’t get me started on how I feel about the Panthers management. Viola, owner of the Panthers, was asked to be Secretary of the Army in the Trump administration. He eventually declined because he couldn’t divest his holdings or something. There was a background rumor that Gallant didn’t subscribe to Viola’s political views and that was one of the background reasons for his firing.
