Open Thread: Gun-Humpers Find Their Natural Home?

Thanks, or something, to commentor Butthurt Jordan Trombone (fka XTPD). From Bloomberg:

YouTube, a popular media site for firearms enthusiasts, this week quietly introduced tighter restrictions on videos involving weapons, becoming the latest battleground in the U.S. gun-control debate.

YouTube will ban videos that promote or link to websites selling firearms and accessories, including bump stocks, which allow a semi-automatic rifle to fire faster. Additionally, YouTube said it will prohibit videos with instructions on how to assemble firearms. The video site, owned by Alphabet Inc.’s Google, has faced intense criticism for hosting videos about guns, bombs and other deadly weapons…

The new YouTube policies will be enforced starting in April, but at least two video bloggers have already been affected. Spike’s Tactical, a firearms company, said in a post on Facebook that it was suspended from YouTube due to “repeated or severe violations” of the video platform’s guidelines.

“Well, since we’ve melted some snowflakes on YouTube and got banned, might as well set IG and FB on fire!,” Spike’s wrote on Facebook, where it has over 111,000 followers, referring to the social network and its Instagram app. A YouTube spokeswoman said the channel has been reinstated after it was mistakenly removed.

InRange TV, another channel devoted to firearms, wrote on its Facebook page that it would begin uploading videos to PornHub, an adult content website…

The jokes, they write themselves!… But srsly, good for YouTube. To be honest, isn’t there an argument that gun-sale and gun-assembly videos should be treated as adult-only content?

This is so fitting. Now these losers can wack off to guns and porno–all at the same time!

I heard another hopeful thing that I commented on this morning. City Bank plans to require any business that seeks financing or to use City’s credit card to pledge to run background checks on all gun buyers, not to sell to people under 21, and not to sell bump stocks. The interviewer I heard asked about existing customers and they said they would try to negotiate and if existing customers found that too onerous, they’d assist them in transitioning away from City. I was shocked at that last part especially. It’s like gun humping is becoming socially unacceptable, which is promising.

Washington (CNN)The lawyer representing the porn star suing President Donald Trump called a tweet he posted of an apparent data disc a “warning shot” to the President.

On Thursday night, Michael Avenatti tweeted an image of what looked like a CD or DVD, with the caption: “If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many words is this worth???? #60minutes #pleasedenyit #basta.”
Avenatti said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that the disc contains evidence proving the porn star’s claims about her alleged affair with Trump.
“I want to be really clear about this: It is a warning shot. And it’s a warning shot to Michael Cohen and anyone else associated with President Trump that they better be very, very careful after Sunday night relating to what they say about my client and what spin or lies they attempt to tell the American people,” Avenatti said.

This about Iowa caught the eye the other day.

U.S. agriculture and the president’s rural political base are in China’s sights as it weighs retaliation after Donald Trump slapped tariffs on at least $50 billion in Chinese imports.

In its initial counterstrike, China announced a 25 percent levy on U.S. pork imports — a heavy blow to Iowa, the top pork-producing state and a political battleground that swung to Trump in 2016 after going for Democrat Barack Obama in the previous two elections. Source

@NotMax: Farmers here are frantic about a trade war with China. Our current ambassador to China is the former Iowa governor. That’s how much the state’s interests are connected there.

Of course, the state went for Trump, especially the rural areas and he didn’t hide his position on trade. So you reap what you sow (so to speak).

@Dorothy A. Winsor (formerly Iowa Old Lady): the farmers believe that everyone needs American food. Too bad they don’t. I’m actually not really against this “trade war” with China. There actually needs to be a better agreement in place with that country. Trump is not the one to do it, sure. But it’s been 17 years since China agreed to join the WTO, but it hasn’t implemented much in the way of market reforms it promised to. Its been great for multinationals to access the workforce. But otherwise? Nope. The current trade policy favors exporting commodities and food so that US, European and Japanese companies can manufacture products for export there. I’m fine if the pig farmers suffer a bit.

you don’t actually need public sentiment for a war, especially when you have as much disregard for norms and rules as trump.

Agreed. The Iraq War gut-punch-proved that nettlesome point to my satisfaction. Dick “Darth-Stovepipe” Cheney and Condi “Mushroom Cloud” Rice and Donald “SexSymbolforTweety” Rumsfeld and Jr. “RealMenGoToBaghdad, daddy!” Bush fucking *all* lied (well, more accurately, deceived) their asses off to get that unpopular war. And by God, they gottit. And no one, apart from a few low-level grunts at AbuGhraib, paid a price.

Until the Nixons of the world go to jail, until the arms-for-hostages freebooters pay a price, hell, till the Wall Street fraudsters twig that ripping off the citizenry for fun and profit (poor aunt Millie) is a dual judgment of shame and legal conviction, betraying the good-faith of the electorate ain’t much like to change.

Course, on the topic of contravening norms, it’s also the reason I reckon Bush Jr. is *still* a far, far worse preznit than Trump (adding the all-important, “so far”; not to say Trump ain’t got potential to be the new bell-cow of perfidy — he do! clearly!).

Just that when the book of life (and death) tabulations get reckont up, so far, Bush has got the bulge mightily over Trump.

One of the many reasons, for me, it’s so galling and exasperable to see Bush-era apologists and flaks and shitheads be rehabilitated.

It ain’t to one’s credit to be able to sez: “Yeah, sure, I cheerfully, gleefully, savagely helped fuck everything up to *this* point, but, well, even tho’ Trump epitomizes every-motherfucking-thing I worked for, he’s … well, he’s crass. And embarrassing. So gimme props!”

Friday night news dump from the WaPo:

By Washington Post Staff March 23 at 10:08 PM
President Trump signaled late Friday night that he will not ban all transgender members of the U.S. military from serving, but deferred to a new Pentagon plan that is significantly more restrictive than a policy adopted by the Obama administration in 2016.

The decision was acknowledged in a memorandum that was released by the White House and revoked a full ban that Trump issued in August and first announced in July on Twitter.

The memorandum was filed Friday amid ongoing court battles in which the Trump administration has sought to block transgender recruits from joining the military. The new filing included a memorandum from Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who recommended to Trump that any transgender service member who has undergone sex-reassignment surgery be involuntarily separated from the military.
This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Reason she ain’t honest with herself, imo, is cuz then she’d haveta take responsibility for her significant and culpable part in fucking everything up. (Which, a-course, ain’t to be countenanced by any self-disresespecting wingnut ass-saving ideologue, which, to put it plainly, is what she is.

The fact that these assholes are objecting to Trump, in and of itself, imo, does them no credit. They are merely seein’ which way the wind blows n inngloriously tryn’ta secure a place onna lifeboat.

It’s (Ralph “Blood’n’Guts” Peters) venal and pathetic and cowardly, and it should be acknowledged as such.

Rationally IMHO, democracies shouldn’t be trading with non democratic countries. “you can do anything you want, you’re a sovereign country, but we don’t want you accessing the banking system that is run by democracies. We’ll buy strategic minerals if it’s necessary but that’s it.”

Good bye access to SWIFT, etc

The ultimate roadblock to a NK deal is that the crime syndicate that runs the place will never accept any restrictions on it’s criminal enterprises. Counterfeiting, both in currencies and handbags, Drug running, extortion. Never mind weapon tech.

BTW, that stand mixer I was so looking forward to earlier in the year? Ended up returning it after the motor started making extremely troubling noises after one use. Too bad as it was a perfect size. Went with this one instead (went for a different color, which I see has gone up by nearly $30 since I ordered). Bigger footprint than I wanted but likes are that the bowl has a handle and that the appliance is all metal. Control to unlock the tilt head is in an awkward place but wouldn’t consider that a real negative.Consumer Reports rated this particular model on a par or better than the comparable (and much more expensive) KitchenAid. Will try to remember to report further as to whether turned out to be a good or not so good unit.

Point taken ’bout neocons’ boner-pill ag’in Russia (formerly, ya, absolutely!; now? who knows what’s Bolton ’em in place?).

Disagree, however, that’s it’s as simple as that re: Hofstadter “paranoid style of ‘Murican Politics”. There is a revanchist, reactionary, self-defeating strain of implosive political impulses to which we, as patriotic ‘Muricans (in spite of our exceptionalism!), are not immune. It adversely affects our ability to see ourselves clearly. @Corner Stone:

No, he isn’t. He is praying for Democrats to adopt his version of Republicanism …

The “you’re-not-doing-it-right” fu is strong in contemporary chickenshit Republicanism. David Brooks to Andrew Sullivan to Tom Nichols to you name it. The common denominator (and this certainly ain’t my observation, but think it’s true) is that all the culpable parties seek to cast blame on both sides (tho’ it ain’t true) so that they might reasonably escape condemnation and retain and/or enhance their sinecures.

If Republican dickheads whose agitprop got us here ain’t prostrating theyselves before all to seek penance for an absolution they cannot but hope to one day receive, then they’re just milking a corrupt-as-fuck system that allows them to rehabilitate their incinerated reputations (atta exhorbitant profit! life is good in the faux-penitent wingnut welfare line) at the expense of a gullible forgiving public.

Most of these horrific peoples, like Butcher Bill Kristol et al., should count theyselves lucky if decent people do not spit upon them in public. That we must actually listen to what they have to say, about any-motherfucking-thing, is the living representation of the “life-ain’t-fair” principle.
