If you, like me, can’t think up a witty slogan for March for Our Lives, here are 89 of them that can be printed out directly or subjected to your own artistic treatment. Thanks to Action Together Zurich and Crooked Timber.
Here’s a link to find an event near you.
Update: Betty sent me a message from a reader:
A friend of mine is working to help create materials for the March 24th march for our lives and I was hoping you could post a link to the materials – It’s a price tag of $1.05 to represent the amount of money Marco Rubio think a Florida student’s life is worth, based on how much he has collected from the NRA and the number of students in Florida. They are trying to get kids around the country to wear these price tags to the march. Here’s the link to the tweet and materials. Thanks so much!
Are you going? For the more creative among us, what would you put on a sign? And open thread.
Kay
Thanks- that’s funny. My husband asked me if we were “making posters” which really surprised me. I don’t think of him as a poster-maker. I’m not in charge of posters. I’m in charge of getting them up and into the car on a Saturday at 6 AM.

I haven’t thought about my sign yet but I bought a bunch of foam core and big markers last year so I am good to go.
What I bought this week, and will definitely be carrying and sharing, are American flags.
Our side needs to start carrying and waving them. When I was at the anti-Trump gathering outside that machine shop that was touting its bonuses in response to the tax cuts last month, the Tea Partiers across the street were waving flags and yelling, “Where are your flags?”
I refuse to let them think they are the “real” patriots. Carrying a flag is an easy way to throw this back in their faces. I look forward to their confused faces.

I am driving to DC tomorrow night and will be at the march in the morning. Haven’t made my sign yet, but good idea about the flags. I’ll bring mine!
Also, about 20 of my buddies and their families/SOs will be at the Raleigh march.

The cardboard bankers box lid makes a light weight nifty sized sign. I cut a oval, but only three sides so that you can fold it over in either direction for a hand hold, because it can get tiring and you need some options.
Two strategically placed will allow for holding in front of you and holding up high.
My will read on one side:
I don’t know them
I didn’t raise them
But I have their backs

At least 3 of my kids are going to the march with me in Rochester. I need to see if the other two want to join us.
I’ll delegate creative poster choices to the kids, especially my daughter. The only thing I can think of is “Fuck the NRA”. Maybe we need hats… FTN or FTNRA

A friend and I are going to a local march with our kids. Tomorrow night, we’re having a poster-making party.

The Biden Scenario 2018
[knock on the front door. Joe Biden Sr. opens it to confront three police officers; the flashing lights of police vehicles can be seen in the background]:
Cop: “Mr. Biden”?
Joe Sr.: “Yes”.
“We have an arrest warrant your son Joe, sir, for the assault and battery of a classmate behind the gymnasium tonight. Is he home”?
I’d also ask Biden the same question I’ve asked Hillary many times, and would ask any congressional democrat that lent support to the Bush-Cheney war: What went wrong, and what did you learn? It is a question the people that did support that war loathe to be asked, which is the whole pointy of the exercise. If for no other reason than their answers- should they ever deign to respond- is vital to the national security of the United States, and the interests of its allies and well wishers around the planet.

TV personality known for playing Bozo the Clown dies at 89
Published 6:47 a.m. ET March 22, 2018
OSTON (AP) — Longtime Boston television personality and entertainer Frank Avruch, who was the star of the popular children’s TV program Bozo the Clown, has died. He was 89.
Avruch died Tuesday at his Boston home from heart disease, his family said in a statement to WCVB-TV .
Avruch played Bozo the Clown from 1959 to 1970, a clown character particularly popular in the U.S. in the 1960s because of widespread franchising in television. Avruch became the first nationally-syndicated Bozo the Clown.
“He had a heart of gold,” manager Stuart Hersh told The Associated Press on Wednesday, “He brought the Bozo the Clown character to life better than anyone else’s portrayal of Bozo the Clown.”

No- it’s just us and our son. My daughter has a good friend in Cleveland who is coming though, so hopefully we can meet up with her. They went to high school together. It’s kind of interesting she’s coming because she recently married a (suburban) Cleveland-area cop. I don’t think of them as anti-gun activists. My daughter is going to the Pittsburgh march which is at noon. Cleveland’s is 10 AM.

@rikyrah:
I don’t know if my oldest son will go. He has had guns since he was 14- a rifle which he used for target shooting. He left it here when he went to college and we had it for years. We finally gave it away because my youngest has zero interest in firearms and it’s a pain to secure it and worry about someone getting it.
Chicago son has a gun now and I know he goes to shooting ranges in Michigan in the summer- it’s licensed in some fashion – maybe because he lives in Chicago. He has no problem with regulating firearms- he’s very much a “rule person” and likes order and calm- but I don’t know if he’d go so far as to march. His WIFE would. Maybe she’ll go :)

“Good guys with guns don’t object to gun regulations because they accept responsibility for their hobby”
True, in my anecdotal experience!
This is really about gun nuts. We are being held hostage by a small group of unstable, obsessed hobbyists who happened to choose a hobby that results in a dead people who had nothing to do with it.
At base this is UNFAIR, and kids are the “fair” police force. No one should be surprised that they get the “unfair” angle. It IS unfair. They’re right. These people imposed their fucking obsession into these kid’s lives and their schools. It’s not fair.

Sigh. I had planned to attend our local March but here I sit with my ankle in a brace and instructions to stay off it for 2 weeks. Also my usual marching partner – daughter #2 – is keeping a low profile politically these days as being admitted to the bar locally can be a taxing process.
On the proud parent front, she presented her first arguments in actual court in a FOIA action and was thrilled that the judge granted all their requests. Her legal supervisor told her she did great but must practice adding more “yes, your honor” and “thank you, your honor” verbiage. She never has been great at deference.

I’m attending the march in Greenville, South Carolina. There are supposed to be some counter-protesters there, so I’d like to come up with a slogan pointed at them. Possible candidates:

Just put it in the overflowing “Trump hires low quality people” basket.
He never hires anyone good. It isn’t that he’s particularly “bad at hiring”. You can’t be good at hiring if you look for the wrong set of skills and qualities. His hires might be awesome in some criminal enterprise, I don’t know, but for lawful work? No.
Donald Trump thinks his daughter was a good hire. He doesn’t know what “good” is.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@LAO: forgot about Sekulow, I was just comparing Dowd to Cobb who seems to be the more dignified of the two. And di Genova… Good Christ, get out of here with that, as twitter Nixon might say. MSNBC says trump will bring back Kassovitz, fingered as a pay-off mule by Bannon in that book

Donald Trump hired this person and to this day believes it was a good hire.
This can’t be fixed with a management seminar. It’s him. He’s a bad person and, thus, he hires bad people. That’s how it usually works. That’s really all managers do- they hire and keep good people. Without that? Doomed. Will never get better. Always worse.
germy
@Kay: He has said in interviews (and I think to his ghostwriter) that he doesn’t like hiring people smarter than him.
randy khan
@Kay:
Dowd probably was the best lawyer he hired. It was reported that several top-tier firms were approached and turned the opportunity down. The stories that came out around that time indicated that they were worried that their advice would be ignored, which turns out to have been a good call. (Getting paid probably would be secondary to them – defending the President of the United States in a really high-stakes investigation would have been really beneficial in terms of getting business down the road.)
My guess is that the leaks are coming from inside the White House, not from the legal team, but you never know.
