Early Evening Open Thread: Some Adorableness To Take the Edge Off

Parker Curry’s mom took her to the National Portrait Gallery to see the new portraits of President and Mrs. Obama. Parker was very, very impressed with Michelle Obama’s portrait.

The AM TO DM guys, as well as most of the Internet, made sure Michelle Obama got the message. As was easily predicted, the former First Lady responded as everyone would expect:

Don’t look directly at Parker without protective glasses! The cuteness, it burns!!!!!

Why stress over the next 2+ years of maneuvering and primaries and what not?

    According to the SF Chronicle, Attorney General Sessions is in California to stir up some immigration shit.

    Attorney General Jeff Sessions is in Sacramento on Wednesday to make what his office describes as a “major sanctuary jurisdiction announcement,” just blocks from the state Capitol where where a new law making California a sanctuary state was passed and signed.

    Sessions did not provide advance details of his announcement, but his Justice Department has been in an escalating legal battle with California, dozens of cities and counties in the state, including San Francisco, and hundreds nationwide whose laws and policies restrict local police and jailers from taking part in federal immigration enforcement.

    Hang on to your hats.

    Earlier a poster noted that some purveyor of smoking substances was having a joke at Session’s expense. This story provides a picture of the box of rolling papers.

    An advocacy group has released a line of rolling papers branded with a picture of the attorney general smoking a joint, reports Newsweek.

    The papers are sold online as a novelty brand called General Jeff’s Old Rebel Session Papers and features a cartoon depiction of a fully-lit Sessions. A portion of each of the $5 packs will be donated to the Drug Policy Alliance.

    Stormy Daniels sues Trump, says ‘hush agreement’ invalid because he never signed
    by SARAH FITZPATRICK

    Adult film star Stormy Daniels sued Donald Trump Tuesday, alleging that he never signed the nondisclosure agreement that his lawyer had arranged with her.

    The civil suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by NBC News, alleges that her agreement not to disclose her “intimate” relationship with Trump is not valid because while both Daniels and Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen signed it, Trump never did.

    Stephanie Clifford, known professionally as Stormy Daniels, signed both the agreement and a side letter agreement using her professional name on October 28, 2016, just days before the 2016 presidential election. Cohen signed the document the same day. Both agreements are appended to the lawsuit as Exhibit 1 and Exhibit 2.

    The “hush agreement,” as it’s called in the suit, refers to Trump throughout as David Dennison, and Clifford as Peggy Peterson. The side letter agreement reveals the true identities of the parties as Clifford and Trump.

    Each document includes a blank where “DD” is supposed to sign, but neither blank is signed.

    According to the lawsuit, which attorney Michael Avenatti announced in a tweet, Clifford and Trump had an intimate relationship that lasted from summer 2006 “well into the year 2007.” The relationship allegedly included meetings in Lake Tahoe and at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

    OT, but I’m wondering if everyone has listened to the BJ podcast that’s posted on Friday:

    https://www.balloon-juice.com/2018/03/02/balloon-juice-podcast-episode-one/

    If so, I am wondering what you thought of it.

    @TenguPhule: probably best that you move into a low slung Espadrille then.

    @TenguPhule:

    Wapo breaking story…..

    What else is new?
    We’ve broken actual and applied promises to the Kurds for many decades.

    Adam L Silverman says:

    @Amir Khalid: I saw someone ask the following question on twitter the other day (I’m paraphrasing from memory):

    What would the President be doing differently if he was, in fact, a Russian asset?

    My answer would be nothing much.

    Adam L Silverman says:

    @schrodingers_cat: Yes.

    Adam L Silverman says:

    @efgoldman: I think they validate your parking, but that’s it.

    Amir Khalid says:

    These discussions of Trump have reminded me of two of my favourite Neil Young songs: this one and this other one. I want a Les Paul.

    Gelfling 545 says:

    @Ruviana: or ocelite?

  128. 128
    SiubhanDuinne says:

    @Ken:

    BTW, it should be ocelotless.

    Ocelotfewer, dammit.

    Adam L Silverman says:

    @WaterGirl: Its all about this city in Ontario. Especially the minor league hockey team.

    Adam L Silverman says:

    @Ken: I’m waiting for someone to explain to this crowd that under Federal law, for national security reasons, British, Canadian, and Australian steel (not sure about aluminum) are considered to be domestic products. It is illegal under US Federal law to impose tariffs on steel from any and/or all of those three countries.

  131. 131
    Adam L Silverman says:

    @WaterGirl: FAKE NEWS! Low Energy! SAD!

  132. 132

    @WaterGirl: Can you give us a gist. I have yet to hear it.

    If I fly to DC and look in awe at the painting, can I meet her too?

    Get in line.

    Yes, everyone should have something with humbuckers. I played a borrowed Epi LP last year. Played well and sounded good and cheaper than Gibson, if that’s a factor.

    randy khan says:

    I was just reading a NY Times Magazine article from October 2016 (I know, but I was behind and it’s been too painful to read) about Trump and right wing media. Imagine my surprise to find out that the person who connected Trump and Erick Son of Erick (although as of the time of the article, Erickson was still a never-Trumper) was none other than Sam Nunberg.

  136. 136
    Amir Khalid says:

    @frosty:
    I yearn for the Epi Les Paul Studio. It does the business, it’s cheaper than the Standard, and it looks more elegant.

    Gravenstone says:

    @Adam L Silverman: If you’re going to single those countries out, it should be aluminium.

  138. 138
    Amir Khalid says:

    @Gravenstone:
    An American has spelled this word correctly! Finally!
