On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day and weekend, and enjoy the pictures!
Folks, if it’s Friday, it must be otmar!
He actually submitted two sets, and I’ll run the next one next Friday.
Thanks otmar – your pictures and explanations bring me and many others lots of joy. You’re lucky to live somewhere so scenic!
And should we have other overseas readers, please do send in photos. We’d love to gain some insight into your country and culture, and get a feel how the world looks around you.
Today, pictures from valued commenter otmar.
January 14th I drove the little spawn to a indoor hockey game in Graz (about 200 km SW of Vienna). We had some time to spare so we walked through the old city center and up to the landmark of Graz:the clock tower.
It was a snowy, early Sunday morning, so the city was very quiet and empty.
View from the main city square.
City hall.
Looking towards the “Schlossberg”

Looking back down towards the city center.
Thank you so much otmar, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.
One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Thanks Otmar! I was in Graz 22 years ago in August. It was unusually hot so it looked a bit different from these shots. I always perk up when Alan has your pictures.

@Amir Khalid: You should send in pictures of KL.
Thanks, Otmar. Austria is beautiful.

@Mary G:
I might, if I had any idea which end of a camera you hit the nail with.
Alain the site fixer
@Amir Khalid: truth be told, whenever I beg for overseas pictures, you’re in mind. Hope all is well.

Get to ‘reapply’ for my job today. I’m not too worried, since I’m one of the few people in my company who can spell SCADA. But we’ve been gradually replacing the security people in my org with MBAs and unaccredited ex military so neither knowledge nor competence are much insurance.
After that, I get to try to find out which between IT and OT, both of which have been habitually feeding audit and cyber-security a mix of stonewalling and lies for almost two years have been lying the least and find some sort of Solomon-like decision to move forward.
But, it’s Friday. I think for my status report, I’ll try to find a montage of “you’re fucked” lines from famous movies.

I love Graz. I’ve been there twice – once in winter, once in early summer, and I loved it both times. I was there on business, and I keep meaning to go for vacation. You’ve inspired me to put it on the calendar for this year.
Another Scott
@mapaghimagsik: Bummer.
Illegitimi non carborundum and all that.
Hang in there. Good luck!
Cheers,
Scott.

Very nice. thanks!

For some reason I thought Graz was practically a suburb of Vienna, not 200 km away! Still hoping to make it to Austria before I die – lovely pics!

Thabks otmar! I do love those styles of building — with a little snow as bonus.
Let’s see if the goog-translate of the clock tower link will post.
laura
Otmar, your photos are always so lovely.
Isn’t Graz the home town of our former Governor der Gropenfeuhrer?
otmar
@laura: Arnold grew up close to, but not in Graz.
otmar
@mapaghimagsik: ics security is quite the upcoming thing. IT and OT are getting linked together. It’s not the focus of my work, but colleagues are dealing with that issue.
