Trump will be first U.S. president in nearly 20 years to attend Davos global gathering of leaders and wealthy elite https://t.co/ROIpeozdKE

Look, this is what white working class voters in Ohio and Michigan wanted. https://t.co/BvAOF0h3DA
— Daniel W. Drezner (@dandrezner) January 9, 2018
More likely, he just wants the real machers, the global Big Swinging Dicks, to finally acknowledge that he, Donald John Trump, is king of the world!!!…
And, of course, that is not gonna happen. The tweetstorm tantrums should be epic, though.
President Trump will address the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this month, the White House said Tuesday, a startling decision that will bring the unorthodox U.S. leader face to face with global elites who have been Trump’s fierce critics and frequent foils.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump will use the forum to talk about his “America First” worldview. Trump has described the approach as the sensible prioritizing of American interests over those of other nations. His critics inside the United States and abroad call it a retreat from an American global leadership based on democratic principles…
She said details of the president’s attendance at the Jan. 23-to-26 gathering are being worked out, and it is not yet clear whether he will hold separate meetings with world leaders there. He does not expect to visit any other countries apart from Switzerland, Sanders said…
Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the Davos meeting in 2017, a first for a Chinese leader. Xi’s speech was praised as statesmanlike and a counterpoint to Trump’s criticism of international bodies and collective decision-making. Sanders said Xi’s attendance last year was not a factor in Trump’s decision to attend now.…
Trump economic adviser Gary Cohn was a frequent Davos attendee when he was a Wall Street banker. He skipped the gathering last year. Sanders said the delegation accompanying Trump is still a work in progress, but that some administration figures would be at the gathering for longer than Trump will stay. Cohn is likely to be among them.
“What the heck is Trump doing at Davos?” said MIT economist David Autor, who has been to Davos many times and is on several panels this year discussing his work on the impact of robots and trade on jobs. “Trump made fun of Davos. This is exactly the crowd he doesn’t want to talk to.”…
Funny enough, the person closest to Trump who was at Davos last year was Anthony Scaramucci

Evening BJ peeps. LAMH here for you latest non-politics news (it’s how I stay sane in this hopefully short Chump era).
Just sitting here surfing the net as I listen to the Greateast Shoman soundtrack (I am OBSESSED with it).
I’ve been saying all along, that the domestic B.O. for this film will surprise alot of people I’d bet. I suspect the domestic numbers will be big, the worry and the ding against it will be the Asian market (first thing anyone underestimating the movie goes to is the Asian market), but my money says the movie’s non-Asia global appeal may be big enough to counter a less than stellar Asia B.O. Although, part of the film is filmed in Korea and the Disney/Marvel P.R. machine seems to have a blitz plan to get the Asia market’s curiosity peaked…so we’ll see. Besides, the film can still hit the big numbers w/o the Asian markets (ex…the Last Jedi, while doing ok in the Asian market actually has only done 1/2 of what Force Awakened did)..
Anyway, we’ll see, but the number of folks on my twitter and facebook timelines who said they’ve already bought advanced tickets was ALOT of folks. Me personally, I’ve never bought pre-sale tickets for movies. I usually wait for opening weekend. But I’ll be honest I’ll be buying my tickets this Friday for sure, esp if this is just not an isolated case in some areas –>

@Raven: I was very sick with a very bad cough last year. I was prescribed two things. One of them made me so woozy I couldn’t take it. I was by myself and I was stumbling around because I was so woozy and I was afraid I’d hurt myself.
My cough did not get better and was so bad that my lungs would close up for long periods of time and I couldn’t breathe. It was pretty terrifying. I could feel it throughout my whole body as my muscles seized up. I could still feel that pain in my extremities 48 hours later. Maybe from lack of oxygen?
I finally got in to see my doctor who told me I had to take both kinds of medication, but he let me substitute an OTC cough med for the one that was making me so woozy. He told me I had to take all of them until the cough was gone and if it wasn’t significantly better in a week I was to come back in. Once I followed his instructions the cough settled down and began to improve.
I’d have to go review both prescriptions to be sure what they were. The Tessalon Perles I could take okay, although they made me a bit spacey. The other one, a liquid, I couldn’t tolerate. It was dangerous for me to take it.

@Raven: As you get older the difference in sitting and standing BP can be noticeable. It can drop when you stand. They test that on the patients at my dad’s doctor’s office. It’s a geriatrics doctor, so they know to watch that kind of thing. It’s a problem for older people because the BP drop can lead to dizziness and lightheadedness and that can lead to falls, which are of course very dangerous for old people.
Your dizziness is probably because of your illness, but something to keep an eye on. They advise older people with that issue to stand and then wait for the BP to normalize and then walk. I was doing that last year when I was sick with the cough because I was nervous I’d fall.

The purpose of the Davos trip is to force the international economic creme de la creme to finally acknowledge His Trumpiness. These suckers have ignored his billionaire ass long enough!
lamh36
@Miss Bianca: The Asian markets have not been known to be kind to films with primarily Black casts…seeing as Black Panther (even tho parts filmed in Korean and comic book action and brighter color than usual action flicks should be a no brainer) has a 95% Black cast, with a Black villain (although in some clips PR push as made sure to include Serkis’ Ulysses Klau character when they can, the primary villain of the piece, as I understand it, is Michael B Jordan’s Erik Killmonger), so based on Asian market history many don’t expect it to have the same legs there as it may have other places internationally.
ETA: Example Rush Hour films were immensely profitable in the Asian market, but that film also had Jacki Chan as prominent star. Even big time movies stars like Denzel Washington have have domestic blockbuster movies, and yet the Asian market was barely there, other than maybe if it got some award season clout?
lamh36
@Mnemosyne: I was looking at 3D, but I truly hate buying 3D if a movie is not trully meant to be seen in 3D (ala Avatar) so I think I’ll just settle for IMAX or Dolby Digital sound. I want to see and hear EVERYTHING.

Yesterday I had outpatient surgery for an umbilical hernia I’ve been neglecting for years. It was starting to worsen, so on New Year’s Day my wife took me to the emergency room, where I had a consultation with the surgeon who did the procedure yesterday (I was the fourth hernia he did that day.) I was prescribed generic Roxicet afterward. I took two yesterday and one a couple of hours ago, and I was tripping pretty good. The dosage is one to two tablets every four hours as needed. It’s a good thing I have a fairly high pain threshold, because if I was to take two every four hours, I’d either be unconscious or in the stratosphere.
At the pre-admitting appointment Monday I had an EKG done, and it came out bad. I then remembered that I hadn’t told them I have dextrocardia, so they had to do it again. The technician said she’d never had anyone with that condition, and the admitting nurse said, “I’ve worked at Kadlec for 28 years, and yours is only the second case I’ve ever seen.” I then had a chest x-ray, and everyone thought it was pretty cool. Dextrocardia is an abnormality where the heart points to the right rather than the left. My heart is a mirror image of a normal heart. Only one in about 12,000 have it. Everyone on the surgical team was impressed, except for the surgeon himself, as he’d seen his share of them.

As far as movies and TV go, a lot of cinematographers don’t light people with darker complexions correctly, or have trouble balancing the light levels between actors with different skin tones in a scene, so the expressions of darker-toned actors can be hard to read onscreen.
I have to say that I think “The Good Place” does a terrific job with this — they can light Kristen Bell and William Jackson Harper in the same shot with neither one of them looking underlit or blown out.

@Bobby Thomson: Well I included a link to your exact comment, so how is that a misrepresentation? Goku can determine for himself what you meant to say.

@Mnemosyne: sis and i loved that movie. i laughed, i cried. the bros can fuck right off, far as i amk concerned. looking forward to seeing it again.

he said drumpf has “the potential” to win a second term if dems don’t win the house and start investigating. not really an out-there or super-cynical belief if you ask me.
seems you guys are reading something that isn’t there.

@Mnemosyne: I’ve never read the book…and to be honest, I’d never heard of it until I heard the film was being developed and Ava Duvernay skipped Black Panther to instead direct AWT. I’m hyped for AWT because of Ava, Oprah, et al, but I have to admit, the trailer haven’t “wow-ed” me, and unlike Coogler, I’m not 100% sure of Ava’s skill w/action sequences. But unlike BP, I kinda assume that AWT isn’t really a big “action” flick, but rather a more cerebral sci-fi sorta “actiony” flick?
But I like to support diversity in films…so I’m def willing to at least see AWT opening weekend to give it some B.O. numbers. We’ll see if Black Panther (after what I’m predicting will be a big opening weekend) has legs that may or may not extend into March when AWT is out

The disk of Rang de Basanti is sitting on the entertainment center. Taunting me. I just have to get over my weird feeling of intimidation and watch the darn thing.

@lamh36:
It’s definitely much more cerebral — I won’t give away too much, but the kids basically get transported to these other worlds and have to think their way out. People are butthurt over the casting, but too bad. The book itself is not a period piece and doesn’t have to take place in the year that these whiny people personally read the book.
schrodingers_cat
@Mnemosyne: I am sorry, I probably scared you off. We can go for some other genre, like a contemporary romance.

@chopper: Yes it is super cynical.

@MisterForkbeard: This is coming in very late in this thread, but I couldn’t let that go by w/o a comment. I taught English for a year at a Chinese University in far south China, 120 miles north of Hanoi, in 1986-1987. I can tell you from experience that my students weren’t convinced that the African students were indeed human,they had such weird skin. I refrained from pointing out that there are Westerners who think they have weird eyes. There were only 20 westerners in a city of 2 million Chinese, we held on to our tongues.

@schrodingers_cat:
Nah, it’s me being weird. I need to just watch it and stop feeling guilty that I didn’t watch it sooner. Stupid Catholic guilt brain. ?

@schrodingers_cat:
nope. I’m not sure how you read “if this, then there’s a potential for that” as OMG HE SAID ITS TOTES GONNA HAPPEN but come the hell on.

@chopper:
Assuming a D loss in 2018 and prediting a T victory in 2020 based on that is super cynical in my opinion. You obviously disagree, which is your prerogative. Why does it matter so much to you what I say and why are you yelling at me. Are you trying to intimidate me by being rude and condescending?

If you have high blood pressure (treated or not) PE can raise it dangerously, especially at larger than standard doses

@chopper: Also, whatever happens in 2018 can in no way predict what is going to happen two years later.
And that’s all I am going to say on this issue.

The Times is fully aware of the slogan. They boosted American Fascists until
Germany, bombed,er, uh, the Imperial Japanese Navy bombed Pearl Harbor. I suspect they’ve been longing for American fascism ever since, not believing they will be first into the camps.mai naem mobile
My guess is that Vankie and Jaaarred begged Daddy to go so that Jaaarred can sniff out some money for that loan that’s coming due for the 666 building. And Vankie will try and make more connections that she will hope to convert into more dills for the Trump Organization. Both will try to convert their relation to daddy into some skeezy dills as well.

I would rather do a week in Boot Camp again that sit through a Beauty and the Beast film of any nature.

The original animated film is one of my all-time favorites and I was listening to the soundtrack in the car the other day, so tastes differ, I guess.

1) “Rosebud” was Kane’s sled
2) The Walrus was Paul
3) Beauty and/or twin-mounted Vickers machine guns.
4) Butch and Sundance vastly underestimated the number of soldiers outside

“If”. the word is “if”. it’s right fucking there. “if”. and yeah, the dems have to beat the spread. it’s true. it’s getting better, sure, but as of right now it is in fact an uphill climb right now.
I for the life of me can’t figure out what your problem is figuring out the word “if”.
and please don’t accuse others of being rude and condescending in response to you deliberately misinterpreting other people’s posts.

well in that case nobody knows fucking anything, do they? so any prediction as to 2020 is equally valid.
