I have spent the day working a fresh install of windows ten after upgrading the motherboard/processor/ram on my computer, and installing programs is fun. On the up side, I won’t need to do this for another year. Getting outlook to run almost had me in tears.
At any rate, I discovered today that MadCatz went out of business, so I no longer have working drivers for my programmable mouse, WHICH IS ALL KINDS OF FUCKING AWESOME (THROWS SHIT), so now I need a new mouse.
I like a heavy mouse. Any suggestions?
Also, I am still waiting for fucking Soros to buy me these:

When I was raiding/playing MMOs I liked my razer naga. But they moved some of the not thumb pad buttons and I hear the build quality has gone down. A friend gave me a Logitech g500s after and it does well, except for not having a thumb pad. It has a very wide DPI range, with the ability to set five presets that you can cycle through (and pick one as a default) as well as having a weight cartridge you can put these little weights in to add heft or change the balance of the mouse with.

My son’s computer screen got damaged recently when Delta made us check his bag at the gate and my husband wants to buy a new one because it’s 2 years old and he thinks that makes it too old to fix. Sorry, but over the past few days a number of tweets scrolling by in the #ALSEN stream have informed me that Soros is busy trying to steal the Alabama Senate from Roy Moore on behalf of the abortion-loving, Common Core-loving, godless Doug Jones. Just bought a new windows 10 laptop w touchscreen. HP pavilion. Amazing what you can get for $700. Back in the day I used to build my own computers by buying cases, motherboards, video cards etc. I have an hdmi monitor, USB keyboard etc but it’s nice to have a lightweight laptop too.
Anyone use windows ink? What’s that about? Do you have to buy the special pens or will any stylus work?

I don’t play games, so I dunno what the hep kids are using for that kind of stuff these days.
I’ve been a fan of Logitech gear for years. I mainly use a Trackman Wheel with my PCs.
I develop various wrist pains with a normal mouse (and even the TMW) if I’m using it for more than a few hours a day. The last thing I got to try to address this was this Anker vertical wireless mouse. It seems to help a little, but I haven’t done a huge amount of mousing with it.

Christmas music question for us geeks: How many versions of the notes and chords in the chorus are there for “Up on the House Top”?
I heard, of course, the Gene Autry recording, and something seemed off. Then I sought out the Jackson Five version, and it was “right” to my ear. Rang up a few more, and the same. Autry’s just sounds off. Too much time on the tonic chords.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: I cannot recall having even driven through Alabama, and I definitely don’t know the state. I basically follow some stuff on twitter to find links to (hopefully) good local news sources, and also – out of curiosity – to see what kind of message coordination is going on among the wingnuts.
As someone else said, the most recent polling offers a bit of good news for Doug Jones, though I haven’t looked at the WaPo piece where it was reported (I ~think~ that’s the most recent poll). There were reported concerns that the Jones campaign could be doing more to reach out to the Black community, but I saw push back on that, so dunno. Maybe that will be addressed in the WaPo piece I need to read. In the meantime, my evaluation of the state of the race = ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The fact that you use Outlook has be in tears.
As for mice, there have been several recommendations for Logitech devices and I would add to those. I have two devices I use regularly — one is an oldish Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v. 2.0. It is large and would probably fit your hand well — I use it with my desktop and I like it a lot. It has a better (for me) selection of button options than the Logitech mouse I have, which is an Anywhere Mobile Mouse MX (there is a newer version 2). They don’t make the 6000 anymore, but you can get one “used, like new” through Amazon for $45.58. There is a new one for $199.95, but I wouldn’t recommend that. There are several refurbished 6000s, all for under $50. I bought my second one for $3.00 at Goodwill — in “like new” condition.
The Anywhere Mobile Mouse MX is reasonably small and I use it with my laptop computer (I hate touchpads). It takes either one or two AA batteries and with two installed it is fairly heavy, but it may be too small to fit your mighty mitt. Another Logitech, as recommended, might be better for you. I took a quick look at the Logitech site and found three likely suspects:
Wireless Performance Mouse MX 5.19oz. $50 at Amazon
Marathon Mouse M705 4.8oz. $50 list, cheaper at Amazon
MX Master 2S 5.1oz. $99.99 list / $74 at Amazon
All three weigh about 5 ounces with batteries. Corded mice will probably be lighter, so if you’re looking for heft…
I’ve never used any of those three.

I was forced to be a MS user for many years for corporate/NGO/int’l orgs even though in my academic and private consultant career dating back to 1980 I was using Apple. So I have long been fluent/schizophrenic on both. Except for the really low period before Jobs rescued Apple in the late 1990s, Gates was just copying what Apple was doing and making it Windows way after Apple had already done the same thing. But, early on Gates made a deal with IBM and that locked in the business market. This is well-documented. The Mac is still the easier way to go.

Downloading, installing and using their own proprietary SetPoint program for any Logitech mouse is a must for experiential betterment. Kind of soured on Logitech, though, after two of their mice in succession gave up the ghost over a total span of less than three years.
Build quality of their high end products may be more consistent (cannot confirm or deny).

Logitech now makes the g502, essentially a replacement for the 500, has the adjustable DPI, “11” programmable buttons (6 on the left, the wheel toggles, 2 of the buttons are the standard ones, there are two behind the wheel, one switches DPI, one is for specific profiles), and comes with five 3.6g weights. Little funky to get used to at first, but I like it. Super easy to program. “Tuneable”, but I haven’t really noticed a difference after I did it.
I also hear Corsair is making some good stuff too. Razer, not so much. Overpriced and they require an email to use their software. Not Logitech.

Hi.
I have used Linux exclusively on my desktop for 10 years now.
You can do virtualization and shit if you want to play windows games, but I have non desire to, and probably couldn’t anyway.
Because I’m running it on hardware that was new back in 2010 or so. Ive upgraded the ram and HD once or twice in that time.
Also I don’t have to do tech support for everyone in my extended family at holiday time. Sorry grandma, I don’t know enough about windows or Mac to help you anymore. Maybe cousin josh?

If you’re still playing a Fire Mage, I’d recommend getting the Razer Naga Hex V2 Chroma Laser Gaming Mouse. If you have a fat thumb like I do, DO NOT get the V1 of this mouse, as you will end up accidentally pushing buttons and it will drive you fucking crazy.
For many years I used my Razer DeathAdder. It has two side thumb buttons – I put Blink on the front one and Iceblock on the back one. Everything else there were hotkeys on the keyboard. It worked fine.

Soros is alive and well in the fevered brains of the far right. In the past 4 months, on a UK politics site, I have seen threads titled:
Soros attempting to demoralise Ireland.
Farage highlights Soros role in the EU
George Soros is funding American schools.
MSM claims Soros mass immigration plan doesn’t exist.
Petition to declare Soros a terrorist.
Most of these are based on Breitbart or RT stories.
When I did a site search for those (via Google), just using the keyword “Soros”, the promoted ad that came up first, of the type that just takes whatever people search for and says “we can sell it to you” came back as
“George Soros Evil up to 70% – Save on George Soros Evil”
which gives an idea of just how up-to-the-minute Soros hatred is.

Roccat Tyon. I have a Mad Catz MMO 7, but I find I prefer the Tyon. It’s a progammable mouse with a shift key (located where the thumb rests) that isn’t a pain in the ass to use. It also has onboard memory to store 5 programmable profiles.
If you prefer a wireless mouse, the Roccat Leadr is a wireless version of the Tyon.

Get a Logitech mouse, I think they are best on market. For past year I have been using Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum Professional Grade Wired/Wireless Gaming Mouse, Ambidextrous Mouse. $99 on Amazon at the time I bought it. Note that it can be used either wired or wireless as needed.Look it up on Amazon and check it out.
