My bff Tammy is up for a couple of days and we are planning Thanksgiving, which will be at my house. It’s going to be me, my mom and dad, Devon and her husband, my brother Seth, Tammy and her husband Brian, my aunt and uncle, and my neighbor Mrs. Wilson. At any rate, we’ve been cooking up a storm. Last night I made blackened catfish and new potatoes, and she made roasted cauliflower and her tomato pepper salad.
Tonight I fried up some cod and onion rings:
It’s nice having someone around to eat with. At any rate, tomorrow we are having Holly over for a big dinner and maybe to watch Atomic Blonde.
BTW- I highly recommend Pinch Spice Market’s blackening seasoning, which I purchased because it has no salt. I am too lazy to make my own and hate all the salt that comes in most blackening and just kills the taste of the fish, and this was really, really good.
*** Update ***
Here’s a picture of my dogs begging for treats from Tammy. Samantha was over visiting my parents and Ginny and Guesly.
There will be lots of pics tomorrow because we will be grooming all four dogs and Steve.

John, maybe you should have your own cooking show.
Omnes Omnibus
Atomic Blonde is brilliant. Assume a dark Bond movie with a female lead. Theron is fantastic.
Should I avoid asking about ABC?
Yarrow
I made roasted cauliflower too. That’s what I ended up taking to the early Thanksgiving. Fancied it up with some stuff. It’s all gone so I guess people liked it.

Did Tammy bring the adorable Samantha? Pictures with Lily and the crew would be nicer than food, just saying, though the food all looks delicious.

Yum.
@Omnes Omnibus: Is it? I’ve been wondering, I saw such mixed things.
Steve in the ATL
Pinch Spice Market’s blackening seasoning is surely better than Pinch Sulzberger’s newspaper
Omnes Omnibus
@Major Major Major Major: I loved it. OTOH, I lived in Germany during the time in which the film was set. I was really impressed by the recreation of 1989 Germany. Also, Theron is really good.

Pictures! Thank you, Blogfather.
John Cole
@Omnes Omnibus: Ahh, ABC and I are no longer a thing. Still friends and talk, but life got in the way.
Major Major Major Major
@Omnes Omnibus: I’m sure she is! That’s the one consistent highlight everyone can agree on.
Aleta
In that photo Lily is the magnetic scene stealer.

@John Cole:
Sorry to hear that. Long-distance is tough.

Cat’s out of the bag now. Your real name is Dennis Mitchell.
;)
Omnes Omnibus
@John Cole: These things happen. Long distance is difficult. Watch the movie.

@John Cole: @Omnes Omnibus: What OO said.
Mnemosyne
Writing your novel out of order sounds great until you lose track of what scenes still need to be written. Argh.
Yarrow
@John Cole: Sorry to hear that. Long distance is hard.
Look at sweet, adorable, bestest dog ever Lily and her little paws in duck feet position. Awww….. Does Thurston take all the treats? Looks like he tries to.

Roasted some potatoes cut in small pieces tonight, a new variety developed in Maine called Pinto Gold. (Very good potatoes, and really popular at the farmer’s market. They go fast.) Roasted them in oil w/ a little onion and garlic; then I tossed the warm potatoes with some dark “spicy salad greens” from the market. (IThe greens included some kind of long horseradishy green, hot.) Some plain avocado on the side. It was surprisingly good.
Then I listened to conservatives on the news talk about Moore and the tax plan, and ate some talenti double choclate to calm down.
It’s snowing now.
Major Major Major Major
@Mnemosyne: oh that sounds dreadful.
Myself, I was going to put my ice cream container away but Sam just sat on my lap, so we both have problems.

I love Atomic Blonde so much I bought it the day it went on sale. Theron is sublime. And sorry to hear about ABC. You do seem surrounded by loving humans and critters.
rikyrah
@John Cole:
Sorry, Cole.
Thanks for the pictures

@Major Major Major Major:
It doesn’t help that I essentially started a page 1 rewrite in March but didn’t actually jettison scenes that I think can be reworked. I’m trying to avoid starting massive edits now because if I start editing before I finish, I will never finish.
I need to sit down with what I have so far and compare it to my treatment and see what’s missing. I was trying to look at the manuscript first but that’s just going to make me want to edit it.

@Mnemosyne: quite the pickle.

This is going to be my sister and my first Thanksgiving as orphans. We’re going to go down to where my mother lived until she went into a home this year. We sold her house, so we have to stay in a hotel, but we need to sign papers and shit, and we’ll have Thanksgiving in her honor–and in honor of my father, too. At least we won’t have to cook or clean up. We’ll be eating at a nearby hotel that puts on a good spread for Thanksgiving. We took my mother there the last year she was in her house before she had to move out. She wasn’t up to having a Thanksgiving meal at home, so we just went out. I don’t really know what to look for, so I guess I’ll deal with the flood of feelings and thoughts when they hit me.

Food looks so good, Cole. I’ve got kids plus son’s new love interest for thanksgiving. I think a few of the trump orphans are back this year, too.
Tomorrow my 14 year old is going to his first concert Dylan and Mavis Staples. His brothers are taking him and he’s pretty excited about it.
I love your dogs, especially Thirston standing up for his treats.
I was sound asleep and then my phone rang after midnight. Thank dog it was a good news call from
a happy kid who crushed his set. Now to get back to sleep.

@John Cole: Sorry to hear that, but glad you’re still friends. It’ll be wonderful, the first Thanksgiving in your new place! Lots of room for people to collapse into food comas.
@Omnes Omnibus: I liked Atomic Blonde (even though it did remind me a lot of the series La Femme Nikita) but wondered how well it captured East/West Berlin in that time period. Thanks for confirming they did a good job!
ruemara
All that looks good. Can’t wait for the Thanksgiving pics. This Thanksgiving & Christmas is gong to be interesting. I’m taking my roommate to meet my VIF (very important friends) for Thanksgiving. He’s asked for a pecan pie, so I’m making him pie and them chocolate cake. Then we’re trimming the tree and we have 3 weeks to figure out what we’re doing for Christmas besides eating.
And I am in Seattle December 7th! I have no idea where I’m staying and I don’t have to be at PodCon until the 9th, so ideas on what i should check out would be nice. So far, I want to see Pikes and the Chihuly Glass museum.
jl
Thanks for pet pic full of very sincere doggy pathos and the deep injustice of the Cole pet life.
Aleta
Seems like a wonderful house for a Thanksgiving crowd, with even a front porch and a back deck to sit on to get some air before dessert. A house that has a lot of rooms for people to drift into and talk in shifting combinations over a few days. Have a good Thanksgiving John. Thanks for this place too.
Aleta
You have a neighbor called Mrs. Wilson. That’s good too.
CaseyL
@ruemara:
Hey! How long will you be here for? Maybe the Seattle crowd can do another meetup!
Besides Pike Place Market and the Chihuly Museum, allow me to recommend seeing the Ballard Locks and (weather permitting) taking a ferry ride across the Sound.

The flood of feelings will go in unexpected directions. This is my first holiday season as an orphan, but I hadn’t done T-giving with mom in quite some time–Christmas will be different, for sure.

@John Cole: Sorry John.

Food looks goooooood. I think we’re having a two person/three cat Thanksgiving. My holiday spirit is non-existent.
WaterGirl
Cole, I’m sorry to hear things didn’t work out with ABC. What a lovely time of your life that was, but now you know that all things are possible so you are changed forever in a really good way.
Tomato Pepper Salad! Is it really just tomatoes and peppers? Spicy peppers or just bell peppers? What kind of dressing?
That looks really awesome, and I’m a little cranky that we didn’t hear about it while I still had tomatoes and peppers from my garden. :-)
Tams
@WaterGirl:
Watergirl, I will write up the recipe for you! Each time I visit, I lleave Cole with many of my
homemad simple recipes. He loves them, (clearly I do) and they are so easy to make. the real cook in the family is Dad… Meaning Cole’s Dad! I just love that he shares his amazing treats with me and not his son. Hahaha!
Until next time, Juicers!
