Watching the game from a sports bar right on the wharf with a fantastic view of the water here in Juneau, Alaska. 20+ beers on tap and a majestic view between pitches.
I saw the Steve Gilliard quote when coming here. He would approve as the Dodgers are the Fucking Yankees of the West Coast.
raven
Decent start for the Dodgers. We just got back from the huge trick of treat in our neighborhood.
Adam L Silverman
@raven: Aren’t you a little old to be trick or treating?
raven
And the Dawgs open the first official poll at #1!!!!!
raven
@Adam L Silverman: We don’t get any kids here even though we are just a couple of blocks from the belly of the beast. My bride worked her ass off on her costume for the big Wild Rumpus Parade Saturday and , even though she went, the rain made it less that it has been. She wanted to go and give out goodies so I put on my old basketball official uni, sunglasses and took Bohdi as my guide dog!

@comrade scotts agenda of rage:
holy shit he would’ve been flame throwing this fascist wannabe clown show admin.
Adam L Silverman
@raven: Okay, okay… I’m sorry I mentioned anything.
Betty Cracker
@raven: Ranked ahead of ‘Bama? Wow! Congrats on that win last weekend, BTW. You’re a class act not to gloat over it. :)
raven
@p.a.: Did you ask about my Purdey the other night?
Omnes Omnibus
@Adam L Silverman: You can’t unfuck a chicken. Or so I have been told.
raven
@Adam L Silverman: I didn’t take any offense, it’s really fun to go out for a bit and see what people come up with.
p.a.
@raven: ? The only Purdey I know is Joanna Lumley of The New Avengers. And of course, Ab Fab.
just googled it: shotgun? was not me. She’s Brit too, though. Killer too, also…
TenguPhule
@Adam L Silverman:
Aren’t you a little short to be a stormtrooper?
raven
@p.a.: I can’t remember who it was. Purdey is a British Gun maker that makes very high quality shot guns and rifles. . .like $100 K kinds of weapons. I inherited one but it’s not nearly as valuable but it’s pretty cool. Made in 1861.
HumboldtBlue
I got Blue for Nan and I got a Carolina Chocolate drops for the Holler, WV, crew.
PsiFighter37
@p.a.: He was a legend – and gone way too soon. One of my favorite bloggers of all time, even if he absolutely hated the Yankees (I’m a fan…go ahead and shoot me).

@PsiFighter37:
If you’re on 5th Avenue, watch out for Trump.
TenguPhule
FUCK.
That crazy asshole Barrett got onto the 7th circuit.
Roe vs Wade is now one case closer to being overturned.
Adam L Silverman
@TenguPhule: I’m about 5’10/5’11. I’m also not a stormtrooper. I look terrible in white plastic whatever the hell that stuff is.
Adam L Silverman
@TenguPhule: OT: where you asking about Russia using social media to both foment violence and identify targets in the US? If so, here’s one of the articles I was referring to. Autoplay video at the link because its CNN.

More at the link.

@PsiFighter37: nah… New England Yankee fan here- and not Connecticut New England either (New England is Mass, all points north, and anything east of the Connecticut River.
frosty
Nice to see the pitchers batting. I’ve been watching the American League since I moved to Baltimore many years ago.
Omnes Omnibus
@Adam L Silverman: Mark Hamill is 5’9″, so I am not sure where the line is drawn. 6′?
p.a.
@Adam L Silverman: If you’re a good shot you can’t be a stormtrooper
frosty
@raven: Nice, the blind ref with a seeing-eye dog. Classic!
TenguPhule
@Adam L Silverman:
How could you possibly look terrible in it when the stuff is full body armor and a complete helmet?
Adam L Silverman
@p.a.: I’m a very good shot.
Adam L Silverman
@TenguPhule: White plastic anything.
TenguPhule
@Adam L Silverman:
Clone trooper then.
raven
@frosty: Some people got it. I did have fun throwing the flag at some folks and making a call!!!
TenguPhule
@Adam L Silverman: Since you’re here, what’s your take on the general on the ground in Syria and the Pentagon disagreeing over how many troops are there?
General said 4,000, Pentagon spokesperson freaks out and claims only 503.
p.a.
@p.a.: fucked up the link
comrade scotts agenda of rage
All of what Steve said back in the day is sooooio relevant today…including his antipathy toward the Fucking Yankees. :)
My kind of game thus far: pitchers duel.
p.a.
Sunday’s WS game outdrew Sunday Night NFL nationally. Radio talk said that’s unusual even for WS games. NFL on teev becoming unwatchable. If they can’t make it seem safer without constant flags, the down trend will continue. (I’ll give them zero credit for actual concern for their ‘prison inmates’, but they want the image.)
frosty
@TenguPhule: Great armor, too, that won’t stop a blaster or a light saber. Rocks and tree branches too, if I remember my Ewoks right.
TenguPhule
@frosty:
Starship hulls don’t stop lightsabers either.
They do stop blasters up to a certain level. All the ones that pierce through for kill shots in the series were either military grade or illegally modified to that level.
/Starwars geek
And its modern anti-blaster armor, not intended to stop serious physical attacks.
Adam L Silverman
@TenguPhule: Which general? Link please? Just got home from the gym so not sure what you’re referring to.
Duane
If I were a Dodger fan, I’d be a little nervous. A run or two more for the Astros, with Verlander pitching, could be too much to overcome.
Adam L Silverman
@TenguPhule: Okay, I found it. He’s the Joint Special Operations Task Force (JSOTF) Commander. I don’t know him (as far as I know – the name doesn’t look familiar. I have no idea what he’s referring to. He may be referring to the official top line number of all US forces in the theater of operations, which is 4,000. This number, however, refers to Iraq and includes the officially reported number of about 400 or so train, advise, and assist personnel from Special Operations working with the local Syrian partners (some Kurdish, some Muslim) and the USMC artillerists providing supporting fires. It has long been rumored that we’ve actually got more folks overall in the theater of operations because we were rotating short timers, 90 day deployments, through to fill gaps in the force in order to successfully complete the mission. I find it highly unlikely we’ve got 4,000 personnel in Syria. Someone would have noticed that many. Also, we don’t have that much slack in Special Operations Forces to have 3,600 additional bubbas from the various Service SOFs to make up this number. And if these are conventional Army or other Service personnel they’d be the wrong folks for this type of mission. And here too someone would have noticed a brigade or regimental combat team missing from their home station.

@Duane:
I am a Dodgers fan. I will be nervous until it’s over. With the way the Astros hit, no lead is safe.
Omnes Omnibus
@Adam L Silverman:
Divisional G-1: Sir, 3d Brigade is missing.
Division Cdr: WTF?
Divisional G-1: Maybe they were Raptured, sir.
Division Cdr: Raptured? Have you seen their blotters?
Divisional G-1: Maybe they up and went to Syria. It could happen, sir.
M. Bouffant
@comrade scotts agenda of rage: We are an empire, but we are not evil.
Adam L Silverman
@Omnes Omnibus: I could see that conversation happening. Though given how the USAF has been evangelized I think it works better with an Air Wing.
Omnes Omnibus
@Adam L Silverman: I don’t write Air Force.
randy khan
Okay, after Sunday’s game, who expected low-scoring nail biter? Okay, probably anybody who’s an actual baseball fan.
This is my favorite kind of game. Right now, I’m finding myself wondering if Roberts is going to use up his whole bullpen before the night is over. Not that he might have any other choice if he wants to get to a game 7.
comrade scotts agenda of rage
@M. Bouffant:
I love baseball to include hating other teams just on principle.
Can’t trash talk because I’m a Nats fan, aka “Caps on grass”
Adam L Silverman
@Omnes Omnibus: I don’t blame you.
M. Bouffant
Annnnnd stretching.
Oh geeze; listening to the radio broadcast, & they are playing “GAWD DAMN AMERICA” (I wish.) while Fox has spared us to run adverts.
Duane
@James E. Powell: The Dodgers did what they needed. Got the lead, Verlander’s out. Good luck to you.
randy khan
@comrade scotts agenda of rage:
This is wrong. The only team remotely equivalent to the Yankees in the NL is the Cardinals. If there’s a Yankees-Cardinals World Series in my lifetime, I may have to resort to watching field hockey. (Nothing against field hockey, really, but you get the idea.)
randy khan
Jansen for the two-inning save. His two-inning appearances have not worked out so well in the Series so far, but even if he gets the save I wonder if using him for 2 innings tonight burns him for Game 7.
comrade scotts agenda of rage
@randy khan:
I live in the heart of “Cardinals Nation”. I despise them as much as a non-Cubs fan can. Mainly because the fan base is working on the douchebag quotient close to Duke fans…and Fucking Yankees fans. :p
comrade scotts agenda of rage
I should add, however, that everybody in the NL hates the Fucking Yankees of the West Coast because they have money to incinerate…like their East Coast brethren.
comrade scotts agenda of rage
One more thing, it is cool when they cut away to Koufax. Lotta baseball history here.
randy khan
@comrade scotts agenda of rage:
Many years ago I took a vacation that consisted of going to baseball games and museums. (Yes, I was single then. Why do you ask?) My timing was such that I managed to catch Cubs-Cards games in both St. Louis and Chicago. They were . . . intense.
M. Bouffant
HAH!!
M. Bouffant
People in the street shouting “Go Dodgers!!”
Duane
Cardinals=Good
Yankees=Bad
There, that’s not so hard.
James E. Powell
@comrade scotts agenda of rage:
A lot of teams have money to burn. The key is not to burn it.
See, e.g., Miguel Cabrera with the Tigers & Albert Pujols with the Angels.
randy khan
@Duane:
Well, you got it half right. Pretty good for a Cardinals fan. ;-)
