A few ear worms to carry us towards the overnight.
First up is a song made for the Warner Brothers catalog by BER intended to sound like a generic 80s pop song. After a snippet of it was featured in the spoof cartoon Teen Titans Go it became popular enough to become the basis for a dedicated extended episode of the show, as well as a cover by Fall Out Boy. This video is that cover with clips from the episode. The mecha is Fall Out Boy as the magical music robot Fall OutBot. The cyborg polar bear is CeeLo Green as CeeLo Bear.
Next up is Sia’s Move Your Body. Which was originally offered by Sia to Shakira, who turned it down. It is also the ear worm music featured in one of the Lexus ads.
Finally a cover of Sweet’s Fox on the Run by the all female group The Regrettes:
Post your favorite and/or most insidious ear worms in the comments.

Butthurt Jordan Trombone (fka XTPD)
For the past month: These songs by O.G.C. and De La Soul which flip (to classic effect, IMHO) “Figure Eight” and “Genius of Love,” respectively.
Jerry
Kate Bush’s Cloudbursting is the earworm of the moment for me. For once an earworm that I enjoy

A Ghost to Most
“Hope The High Road” – Jason Isbell
Jeffro
Not sure if this is an ear worm…just liked having in on in the background this past week (and probably next): NIN Live @ Panorama Festival 2017. Wishing I was at Riot Fest this year…
Jeffro
@A Ghost to Most: And seconding this, what a great song!
NotMax
The Small Faces have been showing up, inter-cranially speaking, intermittently for the past week for no good reason.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@A Ghost to Most: I like Isbell more the more I hear him. Back in my day, I would’ve gone out and purchased his “album” by now.
also, too, this appears to be real

Curiously, I have no songs stuck in my head at the moment. Possibly because the men at the table next to me both sound exactly like Jimmy Jr. from Bob’s Burgers and try as I might I can’t stop hearing them talk.

I’m a Bahbby Girl in a Bahby World.So electric. So plastic. You can fix my hair.Any way you want. It’s so exciting
Now, that’s a freaking earworm
Also too:
Everything is Awesome! Everything is lalalalalalalalalala. Everything is Aweome.

For reasons you can probably imagine, “Come A Little Bit Closer” has been an on and off earworm for the last few months – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuWkVqum6a8

I’ve had the pleasure of having Patti Smith running through my brain for the past couple of days.

It’s been a pretty good couple of days in my head.

All woman band doing a ferocious cover? I submit:

@A Ghost to Most: Thank you for introducing me to that….

If anyone’s wondering this is what it sounds like in Japanese.
And here’s CeeLo’s cover:

Probably not an ear worm, but yesterday the local NPR station played this set of three songs in celebration of Dead and Company coming to town later this year:
Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Ripple
Gregg Allman, Black Muddy River
Wilco, St. Stephen (live)
Can’t link youtubes because three is too many, but boy, it was the best 15 minutes of music I’d heard in a while!
Gravenstone
@encephalopath: That kicked some serious ass. Thanks for that.
Butthurt Jordan Trombone (fka XTPD)
@mai naem mobile: dickfisted duckfucker. Just for that:
Sippin’ on some

The drummer in the Teen Titans video reminded me of the video for the song Amerika By the German band Rammstein.
Another earworm worthy song.

@NotMax: huh?
Lyrebird
Hm.. these don’t stick for me as much as the “Shelter” (Lone Justice I think?) song Omnes posted last week, but maybe it’s because I already knew that one. Awesome song.
Glad I watched the Sia vid, though, because that little girl’s dancing rocks. The particulars of the wig and so forth kinda passed me by, but the ending is awesome. Same for watching photos of the Juggalo protest.
Peace all.
Major Major Major Major
One of my really annoying lefty friends went all the way from SF to the juggalo protest to recruit for the Democratic Soshulists of America and is now posting pictures, so, good for him, I guess.
He still opposes all market-rate housing construction in the Bay Area though so screw him.

Try to get this out of your head: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
AliceBlue
Ever since Walter Becker’s death, I’ve had various Steely Dan tunes running through my head, especially Kid Charlemagne, Dr. Wu and Bodhisattva.
Another Scott
It hasn’t been an earworm recently, but Rundgren’s Johnee Jingo gets stuck in my head occasionally.
Cheers,

Last month, aboard the boat in Skagway, my excellent BIL and I sat up late in the second deck midships lounge. Red wine, an astonishing tiny Bose stereo, and excerpts from his music collection from his phone. Anyway, one result was that this was my earworm during hurricanes and an unusual Silicon Valley September thunderstorm.

Not an earworm per se, but another one for Adam since I suspect he fancies the lass – Tina Guo and Joe Bonamassa – Woke Up Dreaming

That Regrettes video made me feel so old and untalented because they all look like they are 12.
Then I saw the O’Keefe Music Foundation Kids, and they actually are 12.
Damn kids, in my day nobody was allowed to get that talented.
In the meantime, here is a happy/sad story about a koala.
Mike J
@Steeplejack: Thanks! I saw it during it’s roadshow theatrical release. Theater even had a band in beforehand playing Big Star songs. Didn’t find out they were from Memphis until I go t home and googled them.
oooh 24 Hour Party People is on now too. Coogan is so good in this.

@Gravenstone: There’s always room for cello.

@Viva BrisVegas: Reminds me of the Tom Lehrer joke. There are some people in life who just make you feel like you’ve accomplished so little. By the time Mozart was my age, for example, he’d been dead for three years.

Petorado
Rae Morris – Do It. Infectious as hell.
Petorado
@Mike J: The start of that Wilco song reminds of this FYC song.
frosty
Lately most insidious after a brief hiatus: ABBA via Mamma Mia. Just watched it again last weekend. Infectious movie, infectious tunes, sung by the actors. Meryl Streep is great, Pierce Brosnan gives it his best, and says in the extras it’s the most terrifying thing he’s done.
frosty
@Wag: Every time I have a meeting in Frederick MD Patti Smith comes along for the ride.
frosty
@Yutsano: Katrina. Damn straight!
Juju
@Yutsano: You should be covered with honey and then something with ants for posting that earworm.
frosty
@Juju: I’m gonna have to agree. I’ll be hearing Katrina when I wake up tomorrow.
Juju
@frosty: it will last longer than that. Yeesh!
When I think earworm for some reason “99 luft balloons” comes to mind. Bleh.
lethargytartare
you could do worse than just listening to The Julie Ruin all day long.
this ones been in my ear for over a year…

My current earworm is Tie Dye On The Highway. Probably my favorite solo Robert Plant song.
Amir Khalid
@Juju:
When that song plays in my head, it’s in the original German. Sounds better that way.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Amir Khalid:
Like Uncle Pat’s 1992 Republican Convention speech.
Juju
@Amir Khalid: I think the English version was “99 red balloons”. If I’m going earworm with that song, I hear it in the original German. The German pop song that pairs with “99 luft balloons” for another earworm is “Major Tom”.
Amir Khalid
@NobodySpecial:
Have you heard Plant’s cover of Song to the Siren?
Mnemosyne
@Amir Khalid:
@Juju:
When I was a teenybopper, our local radio stations played both the English and the German versions interchangeably. Since I sometimes have trouble understanding lyrics in English, it confused the hell out of me for quite a while. Especially when I felt confident that it was the German version, and then she blurted out “Captain Kirk” and I was confused again about which language it was since there was an English phrase in it.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mnemosyne: When madame watches Korean TV stations here, during the commercials you’ll hear a bunch of Korean and the “Big Sale” and then more Korean.

That’s Not My Name
Amir Khalid
@Mnemosyne:
I learned the lyrics as part of training my ears to listen to German.
NobodySpecial
@Amir Khalid: Ooo, that’s a pretty version. I should really listen to more Buckley.
Amir Khalid
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Neunundneunzig Luftballons is an antiwar song, nobler in intent and better written than anything uttered by Pat Buchanan.
magurakurin
Talim made landfall on Kyshu a few hours ago as a tropical storm. Swept across the island pretty quickly and is now making landfall on my island, Shikoku. We’re on the far east side of the island so the storm is about 140 miles away now. Wind has picked up in the last half hour as we’ve entered the outer wind field. Moving at the speed it is, things probably won’t get too, too bad for too long. Looks like the winds are about 50 to 60 knots. My father-in-law is watching the baseball game…Yomiuri Giants in the Tokyo Dome…I just finished cooking brownies for desert. The wife just watched The Professional on tv. A fairly typical Sunday…but for the high winds and rain. Just another September Sunday, really. Typhoons are a regular occurrence.

@Amir Khalid: I think you missed the joke. Molly Ivins said after listening to Uncle Pat’s speech “It sounded better in the original German”. IOW, it sounded like a speech that could have been given in Germany in the mid-1930’s.
gogiggs
OK, first off, that drummer was male, so., not all female and second, what did that add or change that improved on the original?
They were charming.
Their version was… fine. But I can’t think of one thing about it that recommends it above the Sweet original.
If you want to hear Sweet, just fucking listen to Sweet! They were amazing like salted chocolate. I’d stab a bitch in the neck to hear Teenage Rampage! ( I would not, in fact, stab anyone, anywhere, for any reason other than self defense)
Please enjoy Alvvays. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAn3JdtSrnY

@gogiggs: Actually, although I stand by all I said, thanks for that.
I went and checked out the Regrettes elsewhere and I really like them.
