BREAKING: Sorry to say I just heard Graham Cassidy now has a plan to get to the floor for a vote this month. 1/
— Andy Slavitt (@ASlavitt) September 15, 2017
You know what to do. Here are the highlights to argue.
1) Need to cover more people not less
2) Don’t punish states for taking care of their own citizens
3) Blows up state budgets
4) Medicaid covers people at less cost and same satisfaction as private insurance
And once you call your Senators, call your governor. If this bill passes, thirty five governors will be handed massive problems that they cannot solve.
catclub
That map looks like it rewards all the states that did NOT expand Medicaid under ACA. My only question is Florida. Did Florida expand Medicaid in spite of Gov (batboy) Scott?
It obviously punishes blue states that DID expand medicaid.
Major Major Major Major
Do we know if they think they actually have the votes? Yesterday they said 47-48.
Kay
I wonder if it’s true they really can’t fund the giant Trump tax cuts for rich people without gutting healthcare.
If so, this is a twofer! :)
Block their healthcare gutting, also kill their rich people tax cutting! Very efficient use of our time.
rikyrah
CALL CALL CALL
rikyrah
Once again…it’s a phucking tax cut bill masquerading as a healthcare bill.
I’m so sick of this garbage.
Kay
Has anyone heard anything from Bannon lately on the populist agenda? Many respected news agencies told me he was a raving populist. What was that based on? His bullshit?
randy khan
I’ve called my Senators and posted on Facebook to tell my peeps to call their Senators and Governors.
In answer to M^4’s question, that’s what I heard, too, but if the theory is that they want to bring this to the floor, I don’t want to assume that they don’t think they can get the votes they need.
Jack the Second
So it takes away 27 billion from CA and 19 billion from NY and gives 8 billion to TX?
How odd!
randy khan
@catclub:
That’s exactly what it does – it takes the money saved by killing the Medicaid expansion and allocates it among all 50 states, guaranteeing that the expansion states are losers.
SatanicPanic
Lindsey Graham is a mealy-mouthed tool.
Major Major Major Major
@randy khan: It will eventually kill their constituents in non-expansion states too, but in a more dispassionate, technocratic manner.
Cheryl Rofer
Think of what we might do if we didn’t have to keep fighting the administration just to keep it from hurting people!
Kay
It is. Paul Ryan isn’t the biggest fraud in Congress. Rand Paul is. Beats Ryan by a mile. It pains Rand Paul to admit it but a hell of a lot of the white people in Kentucky benefited from Obamacare so he has to play this stupid game. It’s especially amusing because he’s a physician.

Funny how Republicans like to claim they are the party of ‘principle’. I find that odd. I thought principle meant to be upstanding and to be honest. Apparently somewhere Republicans have changed the definition of principle to ‘screw the other guy out of all their stuff’. And the MSM buys it and the band plays on……

If the phone lines are busy, text “resist” to 504-09. It takes about a minute to send a fax to Rep, Senators, and Governor. They can also do calls and letters. The service is free. I did one last night and if I can’t get through on my lunch break, I’ll do one again today.
Thank you for the talking points, David!!
ruemara
This seems to be a reward to red state leges, giving them money to prop up their failed budgets while stealing money from blue states. Ridiculous.
Kay
When you read the NYTimes political coverage keep in mind that their lead reporters are negotiating a book deal about Trump.
Obviously they’ll have to retain their access and “bond” to earn the advance.
Trump hates them! They’re providing tough coverage! Really! That’s true! How do we know? Because they’re super-duper people, that’s why! Just ask them. EXTREMELY objective.
rikyrah
@Cheryl Rofer:
Which is why those who voted for him must NEVER be forgiven.
It simply didn’t have to be this way.
Frankensteinbeck
According to that tweet thread, they haven’t taken a whip count. Isn’t it malpractice, even idiocy, to schedule a vote like this when you have good reason to think you don’t have the votes?
rikyrah
@ruemara:
Take away SEEMS and you’ve nailed it.
Eural Joiner
I’m going to contact my Senator to stand against this…who happens to be Lindsay Graham. Oops.
rylen
I called my senators. I doubt I’ll convince Graham to come out against his own bill, but it is worth a try.
gorram
@Jack the Second: Not to be rude, but people in California are taking down US flags and putting up the state flag… maybe the GOP knows how sideways this could go, and I can say for certain most of the Californians do… but, this is where things are headed.
Major Major Major Major
@Kay: I am fine with overlooking all his moral failings for the next couple weeks if it kills all this nonsense.
LurkerNoLonger
Fuck these domestic terrorist motherfuckers! I’m tired of this shit. Living in a constant state of fear that my health care will be taken away. Threatening my family’s security. Fuck these soulless, fucking cocksucking motherfuckers. Every time I think I can relax, no this comes back up. Fuck this shit!
Omnes Omnibus
Ron Johnson is a co-sponsor. I told his staffer that he is an asshole who continues to be an embarrassment to Wisconsin. I don’t think I changed any minds, but I feel better.
FlipYrWhig
@Omnes Omnibus: Is Ron Johnson the only senator in American history to have a name that rhymes with the state he represents?
Chyron HR
@Omnes Omnibus:
And his t-shirts are tacky.

@LurkerNoLonger:

TenguPhule
@Frankensteinbeck:
Unfortunately, we can’t assume they don’t.
Remember, Republicans have a nasty tendency to fall in line if the bribe is big enough.
TenguPhule
@Omnes Omnibus:
Isn’t that a pron star non de plume?
David Anderson
@catclub: Any state that Expanded Medicaid or had high exchange enrollment with high premiums is losing money under the current draft.
Florida and North Carolina have not expanded Medicaid but Florida has very high exchange enrollment and North Carolina has moderately high exchange enrollment at high premiums.
randy khan
@Major Major Major Major:
Absolutely, since the funding will be inadequate from the start.

I made another two calls and now am in a foul mood. I hate having to list, in detail, exactly what the Republicans are threatening to do — it makes my argument to the interns stronger but it also makes me furious to be reminded of what straights we are in as a country.
I start perserverating on all the Republicans in my life (comes with the territory of living in a Cincinnati suburb) and wondering if I really want to continue to be civil to them. And then I feel bad because that isn’t the sort of person I want to be.
Percysowner
Well I called Portman and left a message, they never answer their phones. I was following the 5 calls Daily script and then I went ‘Ping’ and ended up being really angry, so I suspect I will be written off as not credible. I’ll give Brown a call and pat him on the back. At least I won’t go ping on him.
Ohio Mom
@Percysowner: Try Portman’s constituent hotline number — on the bottom of Portman’s homepage, where his offices are listed, it’s with the Columbus office number. It’s the 800 number. I’ve had the best luck with getting an intern with that.
But overall you are right, he has the worst office help. They have no work ethic, which isn’t surprising when you consider they are young Republicans.
And if it makes you feel better, I also lost my temper. I got through to the Cleveland office this morning and the Toledo office this afternoon. I refuse to feel bad about it. This is an issue worth being angry about. If it makes the interns uncomfortable, good.

Lil’ Marco not answering his phone again.

My Senators in WA state — and the Gov already get this…
When will this assault end? When? What a nightmare!
Chris
@LurkerNoLonger:
Seriously. It’s exhausting to get up every morning and check to see if something you depend on for your health is or isn’t in the cross-hairs again, and/or if the sniper’s taken the shot. That in itself has to be taking a toll on people’s health on top of whatever else they’re dealing with.
BrianM
@David Anderson: Do you have a source for the numbers in the graph? I’d like to point to the non-embedded graph, but I like adding sources.
