What a cowardly, inept piece of shit. You can watch it on CSPAN here. [Announcement over, and the KKKeebler Elf scurried back to the tree without taking questions.]
Trump has a cult comprising about 27% of the electorate, but few outside of the constellation of True Believers have any respect for him. The Russians certainly don’t — looks like Putin no longer thinks Trump is a genius (not that he ever did):
Putin also criticised the United States, saying it was preposterous for Washington to ask for Moscow’s help with Pyongyang after sanctioning Russian companies whom US officials accused of violating North Korea sanctions.
“It’s ridiculous to put us on the same [sanctions] list as North Korea and then ask for our help in imposing sanctions on North Korea,” said Putin.
“This is being done by people who mix up Australia with Austria.”
Just drop the pee hookers tape already, Vlad.
While Congressional Republicans are sticking with Twitler for an oligarch relief package, they’re working around him because they know he’s a fucking idiot too:
On two important policies — sanctions on Russia and health care — a working majority of Democrats and Republicans in the Senate has already thwarted Trump. Another bipartisan majority appears to have formed against Trump’s threat to shut down the government unless he gets significant funding for a wall along the Southern border. In fact, on any number of issues, there are enough anti-Trump Republicans in the Senate not only to block the president but also to push their own policies contrary to the president’s — as was the case with Russia sanctions.
My guess is this workaround will become more common as Trump becomes increasingly unhinged. The Republicans deserve zero credit; they’re keeping the nuclear codes in that lunatic’s chubby little hands. But they may decide to degrade his ability to completely destroy our democracy out of self interest. Yay.
The Daily Caller, a wingnut site, is trying to spin Trump’s ceding of civilian control to the the military as a positive:

There’s a shocker. I hope Trump sees that story and makes Kelly jump through hoops. Trump can’t read people for shit since he’s a malignant narcissist. Remember when he weirdly proclaimed that President Obama liked him, when it was obvious to anyone with eyes that PBO was handling Trump like an irradiated turd that he (Obama) nevertheless had an obligation to install in the Oval Office?
Then Trump decided PBO was his mortal enemy and made up outrageous lies about wiretapping, probably because he (Trump) didn’t receive a blubbering endorsement from his predecessor. Yeah, Kelly better watch his back.
ETA: Per Newsweek, President Obama might choose to get involved in this issue as follows:
Former President Barack Obama is said to be considering speaking out against Donald Trump’s alleged plan to scrap the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA).
The president will reportedly announce on Tuesday a plan to end the Obama-era program within the next six months, a move those close to Obama say the former president will rally against.
A source close to the former president told Politico that Obama will write a Facebook post and share it on Twitter as well, speaking out against the president’s decision if he does choose not to protect Dreamers.

CNN has an op-ed up about what the reaction on the conservative side to the Louise Linton debacle says about the electorate. Best paragraph:
“The response from the right (or lack thereof) to Linton’s outburst is more evidence that the 2016 election wasn’t just about white working-class voters feeling unrepresented by out-of-touch elites. It was also about a group of Americans who don’t care one iota about character or honesty or even reality, but do care about sticking it to liberals and creating chaos for fun — because liberals, and the people increasingly benefiting from the changing political order, are women and people of color.”
I have a few right-wingers on my FB feed and one of them has posted stuff exactly this- that he’s more interested in seeing liberals get angry than anything else. Ending DACA is right in line with what they want- I don’t think half of them even understand what it is. Doesn’t matter. If it hurts brown folk and makes liberals mad, it’s a fine thing.
I was visiting my stepmom over the weekend, in Central PA, and stopped by an art festival in Harrisburg. It was a pretty diverse collection of vendors and attendees, but within five minutes of sitting down in a biergarten area to sample the local brews, my husband and I were approached by a local who made a joke to us about the blonde ale being called “Cheap Date” and his daughter being a 22-year-old blonde and should he be offended? I inquired why “blond” had to refer to a woman, and he got huffy and started complaining about political correctness, and then, when I said “political correctness” is just treating people with respect, starting telling me about all Asian people he worked with and how they were fine with him making jokes about their backgrounds because it was all in good fun (at that point my husband asked if he was sure they were really finding his jokes funny or if they were just pretending because he was the boss).
This is who these people are. As Kay said a few days ago, until things affect them personally, they don’t care. They’ve picked their team and they’re sticking with it and that the rest of the world thinks Trump is a moron is not their problem. USA! USA! As long as it’s white.
Also- a guy making a joke to total strangers about his own daughter being a cheap date? Creepy. I feel for that young woman.

When the attorney general tells us that this isn’t about bigotry, remember that this attorney general decided to defend a Txas voting law that was determined to be deliberately discriminatory against Latinos.
Conservatives need to explain this- why are the drafting, passing and defending voting laws that were designed to discriminate against Latino voters? I thought their objection was to immigrants? The people they’re discriminating against in Texas are citizens. Remember- deliberately discriminatory. DESIGNED to prevent certain citizens from voting.
What is the possible explanation for this other than irrational bias against a group based on ethnicity? That’s what courts found- the AG keeps losing on his crusade to stop brown people from voting.
Peale
@Major Major Major Major: Yep. The pool of Latino voters are citizens without visa issues. And many of those latino voters aren’t Mexican or Central American. And like all voting groups, voters who are poor don’t tend to vote, so the Latinos who vote are of a different class than the Mexican working as a dishwasher illegally. 70-30% is probably as good as the Dems will be able to expect. Unfortunately, you could run every DACA Mexican or Guatemalan out of the country and the response from the Latnio voting pool will be “thank goodness I followed the rules and my citizenship protects me”. Then they’ll move on to other issues. And 70-30% is a tremendous split that the Dems should be thankful for.

@schrodingers_cat: @Frankensteinbeck: I think you’re both right. On the one hand, we do talk about how awful white men often are, quite a bit; on the other hand, when we’re looking around for somebody to blame for Trump’s election, we often decide to harangue minority groups who we think should have known better, forgetting that these white men (or any other group of Trump or non-Hillary voter) possess agency too, and made just as terrible of a decision and are just as revolting. It’s like minorities have the duty to band together and save us from Republican votes that just fall out of the sky like a force of nature, rather than being equally shitty people making equally shitty decisions.
Kay
Why would Texas Republicans and the Trump Administration not want Latino citizens to vote? It isn’t the “citizen” part of “Latino citizens” they object to. It’s the “Latino” part.
Why are they thwarting this group from voting their interests? And spending public funds to do it! It’s not even a WINNING crusade. Federal judges are ruling again and again that they can’t discriminate against one group of voters based on ethnicity, and the Trump Administration keeps trying to get it past a judge. Why? Nothing WHATEVER to do with immigration.
Republicans should have to explain this. It’s directly contradictory to what they are telling the public.

Context is important here, though. This is specifically a discussion about how Republicans hate Latino. Latinos who vote in significant numbers for a group that specifically hates them is relevant. It’s true that women and minorities are given more credit for not being bigoted, with declarations of surprise and disappointment when it’s proved they are.
