Blondy?
Adam L Silverman
@Omnes Omnibus: Yep, Debbie Harry.

very underrated band imho, Sunday Girl, Dreaming, Atomic, Union City Blue all on my playlist of life….
Adam L Silverman
@piratedan: Sunday Girl is a favorite.

Blondes have more fun, but brunettes sell more lingerie
Omnes Omnibus
Does this help?
Dreaming.
Adam L Silverman
@Omnes Omnibus: Also a favorite.

Blondie is my fave.

She’s so dull I’m gonna rip her to shreds.

@piratedan:
Absolutely agree. All classics.

Didn’t “Rapture” have something to do with the whole rap music thingy? Asking as an old white dude.
Wag
I’ve also always been partial to the Tom Tom Club. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-9d9FA3fCf4

@Wag: In that case you’d like my profile on twitter. Quotes from here appropriate for twitter.

@piratedan: Underrated? By who! Not by me or anyone who wrote about them. An awesomely tight rhythm section, great hooks and lyrics, And best of all, they could play anything from 60s girl groups to 80s rap.
OK, one of my all time favorite bands, so I might be a “leetle” biased.

Fun fact I learned while watching a documentary about rock music: Blondie’s song “Heart of Glass” started as a reggae tune that turned into disco. If you listen to it knowing that, you can hear the reggae beats under the song.
frosty
@frosty: Plus disco. How did I forget “Heart of Glass”? Now I’m going to be watching Youtubes til dawn. I blame Adam! No, Obama, yeah that’s the ticket … Obama.

One of many nice things about Blondie is that they keep making new music as the years go by. Here’s a song from this year’s album.

@frosty:
I just found this interesting mini-documentary about “Heart of Glass” where they break down exactly how the record was constructed by isolating various tracks of the master tape. The original is made up of 24 different tracks!

Topped out at 104 degrees today here (south of SF). Like most of the houses on the Peninsula, I don’t have A/C. Still mid-70s at almost 11 p.m. It’s veritable windstorm inside my house with all the fans running.
Tomorrow is gonna be equally bad, then Sunday it’ll “only” be in the mid-90s before dropping into the 80s on Monday. Not the most fun Labor Weekend…
One the plus side, UC Berkeley’s season opener is an East Coast game that starts at 9:30 a.m. — so I should be able to watch all of it before the house gets unbearable. But if you don’t hear from me again, just look for the blue and gold puddle.

Because I suck at relaxing, I finished the broad outlines for the title card of chapter 2 on my comic.
Vacation!

@Sister Golden Bear:
11 pm and Weather Underground says it’s still 88 degrees outside. Between that and the nasty brush fire one town over, our windows are staying closed all weekend.
Though I do want to clarify for the non-Californians that this is a heat wave. It’s not going to be this hot for the rest of the month of September like it would be in Phoenix. It’s going to be super hot all weekend and then cool back down to the high 80s by next weekend.

@Major Major Major Major:
I need to organize my book this weekend. I have a month’s worth of Camp NaNoWriMo writing that needs to be incorporated into the Scrivener manuscript before I go on my writing retreat the week of the 11th. The retreat organizer sent a little worksheet for all of us to think about our writing goals for the week. I am super excited to be going! ?

@Mnemosyne: Having for the first time cracked 110,000 words on something I’m starting to understand why people use something indexed and such for their writing, I definitely can’t hold it in RAM any more (as it were).

@frosty: frequently heard them described by those musical snobs as being nothing more than a mediocre band with a good looking singer who was every teenage boy’s wet dream incarnate. Yet they never seemed to realize how adept they were as they seemingly transitioned between styles and genres. As such, even tho they’re in the R&R HOF there were a number of folks in musical circles that dismissed them out of hand. They made their own niche with songs that could easily range from poignant to angry to wistful. Not many bands can actually do that. Most of it you could even dance to.

@Major Major Major Major:
I have a decent outline (with a few gaps in the last third) that’s helping me keep it all together even though I’m writing it out of order. It turns out that I’m a Planner, not a Pantser. If I try to pants the story, I just get frustrated and give up.

@Mnemosyne: Oh, I just, like, forget who wears a watch and where I put the hidden cameras. My window dressing is so ludicrous that nobody seems to notice the plots are very straightforward.
ETA: Then again, maybe every plot feels straightforward to the author. I know that when I notice something is convoluted (or, worse, clever) I’ve usually gotten myself in trouble.
Mnemosyne
@Major Major Major Major:
From what I’ve seen, people usually create spreadsheets for stuff like that. Nothing elaborate, but it lets you search and find the information when you can’t remember who wears a watch and who doesn’t.
Major Major Major Major
@Mnemosyne: Yeah I have a separate notes document for stuff like that. But for the most part each draft, the actual text of the book, is one big file.

No no no, not that Irma — this one!

@Mnemosyne: Yeah, the air quality is wreaking hell with my allergies. In San Jose it was so hazy from the brush fire smoke that you couldn’t see the mountains nearby.
For those you who thinking we’re whining, just remember we don’t have A/C or pools to cool off. Thankfully it’s only a couple days.
But there will be heat-related deaths. It’s serious enough that the sheriff’s department used the county’s emergency alert system to text out an excessive heat warning, and links to libraries etc. where people can cool off if needed.
Mnemosyne
@Sister Golden Bear:
I need to shave tomorrow so I’ll be comfortable in a tank top and shorts with the A/C set to 80. I’m a little too Julia Roberts right now. ?
Mnemosyne
@Sister Golden Bear:
The La Tuna Canyon fire is just a few miles away from us, so we’re all a little obsessed with that right now. Friends of mine are waiting to see if they’re going to have to be evacuated.

Blondie are perfectly OK, but then again …

Denis was the first Blondie song I remember hearing on radio. Blondie’s songs have aged well.
