‘Course, some people totally approve of Trump’s latest stunts…
Wow.
GOP strategist says that after Trump's weak condemnation of white supremacy, his support among base went UP:https://t.co/1mbsEaKrxc pic.twitter.com/PeGshL0pVS

Just don’t call them Deplorables.
I watch #GoT and think, "Why is everyone acting so stupidly?" Then I watch the Trump administration act just as stupidly, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

*eyes Marist poll*
Those numbers look pretty close to 27% to me…
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
Insomnia sucks…
That cartoon is dope though. Klan hat, twitler machine, that damn tie though – I’m here for ALL OF IT.
Ruckus
@Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant):
Is that a klan hat or a dunce cap? Hard to tell one from the other.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant): The long tie is what did it for me.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Ruckus: I think it’s a combination of the two.
ETA: It’s got the two eye holes.
Arclite
That’s a feature, not a bug…
Ruckus
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
It’s possible that I missed the eye holes in the shadow.
?BillinGlendaleCA
OT: Went on another photoshoot tonight with the Glendale group(and I shot the Milky Way last night). Here’s a pic of traffic light tracing from DTLA.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Ruckus: I thought dunce cap and then noticed the eye holes.
Hkedi [Kang T. Q.]
And such small fingers on the phone……
Shalimar
@Ruckus: He’s wearing a dunce cap, but the shadow reflects Klan cap and robe.
Hkedi [Kang T. Q.]
I’d like to believe that R MEDIA R LERNIN, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all that there will be massive levels of knob slobbering over his Afghanistan speech. (Oh he’s pivoting! The generals are in control!! The white supremacists have been driven out! It’s going to be the second coming of Reagan ANY SECOND NOW DAMMIT!) Mockery and disdain for lots of the DC press corps. I’d say to them: sometimes you don’t choose the clown life, the clown life chooses you.
Ruckus
@Shalimar:
Having seen a real live, honest to goodness klan robe and hat about 27 yrs ago in a shop in South Carolina (belonged to the owner, probably had been his dad’s. Not that he was all that liberal, he may have worn it a time or two) about an hour south of Charlotte what fooled me was that the hat seemed too stiff. They were after all just made of cotton. Maybe starched/ironed but not rigid.
jl
@Luthe: Huffpo pollster says polling aggregate of all adults party ID has GOP stabilizing at just over 27 percent. Dum dum dummmm! The hardcore are massing.
sukabi
What’s going to put twitler over the edge is the comparison polls between Obama and him… Same day, same poll. Polar opposites.
jl
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Thanks. Nice Milky Way shots too. And a yellow beach ball?
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@Ruckus: Both – check the shadow of the eye holes on the wall
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@Ruckus: My only direct contact with the klan was in SC as well; one Saturday after a maintenance briefing, driving out the front gate of Shaw AFB, hit the ramp, and boom. There they were signs and everything. This was ’87, months before I shipped out for the ROK.

“They’re not deplorable, they’re the pure and noble white working class! Bend the knee to them, you identity politicians!”
– Bernard “MLK was basically my sidekick” Sanders
Iowa Old Lady
I suspect there’s a lot of overlap between those in dunce caps and those in Klan gear.
FlipYrWhig
Support for Trump is all about “economic anxiety,” right?
different-church-lady
@FlipYrWhig: No, no, it’s because the Democrats “won’t address the concerns of the White Working Class.”
Oh, wait, same thing, different cover.
MJS
@Hkedi [Kang T. Q.]: I expect the same knob slobbering, but it will be short-lived. I don’t think many people actually pay attention to the fact that we’re still in Afghanistan, and most would be fine with us simply declaring victory and leaving. So yet another “strategy” to make an ungovernable country governable isn’t going to capture anyone’s attention for very long. And because this is the Trump administration, shortly after the speech, something will happen that takes the focus of whatever nonsense Trump can spew.
rikyrah
@Luthe:
That crazyfication factor ?
sherparick
Re GoT, except for the Night King. Kind reminds me of Putin.

But… but but… CLINTON FOUNDATION!!!!!

The Republican ID number is important to watch – 75% approval from a shrinking base is a problem.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
Well Bannon’s quote “GOPers Will Be ‘One Big Happy Family’ If They Line Up Behind Trump’ is coming true because it sounds like only Trump supporters are left in the Republican party.
That poll also implies that the remaining Trump support is only regional too.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Hkedi [Kang T. Q.]: I am not to sure, the press sounds like it’s getting off on playing Mean Girls with Trump now like it did with Hillary. Plus the Press has their precious narrative set on Trump he is an impulsive, racists idiot so they will ignore anything that contradicts that.
Also this Donald Trump we’re talking about, he screwed up condemning NAZIS.
different-church-lady
@Enhanced Voting Techniques: I swear the reason the media went in the tank for Trump is they knew it would be ratings gold.
schrodingers_cat
@randy khan: That’s the important variable here, how has the number of people who identify as Rs changed since November. A large % of a small number is a smaller number.
Is the R base becoming a concentrated cappuccino of hatred?
msdc
A few things about those poll numbers:
1. John Rogers was more right than he knew
2. Fuck the 27%
3. And fuck the 12% or so of the population who like Barack Obama, disapprove of Trump, and yet couldn’t be bothered to vote for the only candidate running to continue Barack Obama’s policies and stop Trump. They are just as bad as the 27%.
jonas
Republicans would do well to go back and watch Hillary’s now-infamous deplorables speech. As she observed, half of Trump’s supporters are awful, racist assholes — the deplorables — but the *other* half were people who were just low-information voters fed up with “politics-as-usual”, who wanted to shake up the culture in Washington, and put a brazen, take-no-prisoners businessman in charge of getting manufacturing jobs back (and who also didn’t like Hillary). Together, these folks elected Trump. The deplorables will stick by their man “though infirmity lay [them] waste and ill health curse [their] every waking moment.” By playing footsie with Nazis and just acting like an allround incompetent buffoon Trump is well on his way to losing that *other* half. They’re probably unlikely to vote Dem in 2018, but they could just shake their heads and stay home. Either way, Trump and the Republicans are toast if these most recent poll numbers stay where they are. Obama’s numbers in 2010 weren’t close to this bad, and look what happened to the House that year.
Thru the Looking Glass...
How did someone else say it?
An ever increasing percentage of an ever shrinking demographic?
Ben Cisco
@msdc:
QUOTED FOR TRUTH.
Mnemosyne
@Arclite:
Yup. His base is white supremacists. Period. The rest will slowly fall away.
BruceFromOhio
@Luthe: My thoughts. The 27% Rule has been demonstrated so many times, it’s worthy of a research grant for some bright poli-sci grad student.
BruceFromOhio
@msdc: A nit pick, it was actually Rogers lunch companion, Tyrone, that recognized the 27%.
2,3, yes.
glory b
@randy khan: I mentioned the other day that Joe Scarborough said party approval in the 70’s meant trouble for any elected official.
The Lodger
@BruceFromOhio: I think Tyrone was to John Rogers as Raoul Duke was to Dr. Hunter S. Thompson.
Spider-Dan
So are Trump’s approval numbers today better or worse than when he won?
This is why I can’t bring myself to care about approval numbers. There is a vast swarm of idiots who overwhelmingly disapprove of 45, but He’s Not A Baby-Killing Gun-Stealing Democrat so they’re going to pull the lever for him anyway (if they vote).
I think the more useful number to look at is the change in (R) identification. Those are people who are less likely to mindlessly vote R.
