On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Juicers who are are on the road, traveling, or just want to share a little bit of their world via stories and pictures. So many of us rise each morning, eager for something beautiful, inspiring, amazing, subtle, of note, and our community delivers – a view into their world, whether they’re far away or close to home – pictures with a story, with context, with meaning, sometimes just beauty. By concentrating travel updates and tips here, it’s easier for all of us to keep up or find them later.
So please, speak up and share some of your adventures and travel news here, and submit your pictures using our speedy, secure form. You can submit up to 7 pictures at a time, with an overall description and one for each picture.
You can, of course, send an email with pictures if the form gives you trouble, or if you are trying to submit something special, like a zipped archive or a movie. If your pictures are already hosted online, then please email the links with your descriptions.
For each picture, it’s best to provide your commenter screenname, description, where it was taken, and date. It’s tough to keep everyone’s email address and screenname straight, so don’t assume that I remember it “from last time”. More and more, the first photo before the fold will be from a commenter, so making it easy to locate the screenname when I’ve found a compelling photo is crucial.
Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!
First up, pictures from valued commenter No One You Know.

Mitchell Hill Lake, from the earthen dam.
The Jefferson Memorial Forest is the largest municipal forest in the United States, and is operated by Louisville Metro Parks. It is located in the southwest fringe of Jefferson County, and consists of 6500 acres of woods, trails, campgrounds and limited conference facilities, as well as a zipline attraction. It is pretty easy to get to after work or on weekends. We decided to take an end of day hike, about a 4.5 mile loop.
Ducks!

Mitchell Hill Lake
There were about 15 ducks patrolling the lake when we were there. I liked them, but only had a phone, so there is no good zoom.
Thank you so much Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.
One again, to submit pictures: Use the Form or Send an Email

Those pics of Mitchell Hill Lake look a lot like Upper Franklin Canyon Lake here in LA. Y’all have probably seen it, it’s the lake in the opening credits of The Andy Griffith Show.

WTF is going on with that stupid Ora TV embedded link? Every time I open up BJ on my work laptop ( I know, sue me) it redirects to a full scale Ora link and Will. Not. Go. Away until I remove the tab.
I haven’t messed around with any security settings (I don’t think I even can) so what am I supposed to do? It’s making BJ impossible to read.

Pretty pictures?

Just saw that Ms. Rofer was cited in the Financial Times in an article about North Korea.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Always thought that the scenery in Mayberry resembled no part of NC that I had ever seen.

You mean that Mayberry was not filmed in North Carolina? What next? Rock Hudson is not the epitome of virility and heterosexuality?

We’re enjoying the warm weather in Atlanta, waiting for our (well my daughter’s) tour/visit to start at SCAD
ETA – Weird that I parked next to another car from NY. What are the odds?

I think I was just about to reply to that comment to say I can’t do any of those things on this laptop, no Administrator rights, so I tried the old traditional “Turn everything off, wait, turn it all back on again” trick and, lo and behold, the Ora TV link is confined again to a little box on the right of the screen that I’m not going anywhere near.
Man, that was annoying. No idea what happened or how or if it’ll happen again. This is what I get for being functionally computer illiterate.

@Tony J: We’re all computer illiterate these days. 30 years ago you could buy the boards and build your own XT and have some idea what was going on. Not any more.

We’re in the middle of our 3 week Summer Road Trip, camped at Mammoth Cave NP. Fun fact: only one of five campgrounds so far has been full, not something we’re used to. This one is more than half empty. Could be no one with a trailer or RV wants to camp without hookups any more.

I’m off work today so I’m packing for our eclipse trip; we leave for WY after dinner tomorrow so we can get away from Denver after most of rush hour. One of my husband’s oldest friends rented an entire dude ranch-like facility and friends and their friends are converging from all over the US, maybe 100 people. Most of these folks haven’t been out roughing it since going to camp in junior high and high school, though hubby and I are serious outdoors people. Should be a great time as long as everyone plans well for their comfort and lack of altitude exposure (I’m a WFR, so I plan to be well equipped in case people have problems but I don’t have any oxygen tank stuff). I’m really looking forward to the Tetons, old and new friends, and the eclipse!

Great photos!! Thanks….
OK, I know this is really late – but I understand that lilies are dreadfully poisonous to all our furry brothers and sisters (cats and dogs of all sexes, or none at all…) so be careful, gardeners with lilies. And buyers of pretty flowers, also, too.
And speaking of taking photos with your phone. Halliburton – which makes $35,000 digital cameras for pro photo shoots, is also making an add-on phone camera for a specific model on phone (moto-something maybe?) that runs about $400. Don’t know if it will actually replace a good point and shoot, but what if?
