I have now shelled the black-eyed peas. I have a huge bowl full of them and I have at least that many unshelled sitting on the counter. I’m awash in black-eyed peas. I put the ones I shelled on to cook. I’ll use them cold in salads and things this week. The next batch I might try one using in an Indian food inspired dish. Having so many black-eyed peas is not a big problem to have but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by it.
This morning I found a cat bed dragged out into the middle of the kitchen. The cats relocate them occasionally, so I wasn’t surprised. But when I picked it up, there was something underneath, wriggling.
It was an eight-inch-long centipede, the kind with a poisonous bite. The cats had smashed the last third of its body.
I’ve worried about those centipedes. Another of my cats, years ago, suddenly fell into a coma-like state. The vet and I figured out it was probably that the cat had eaten or been bitten by a black widow spider. The cat came out of it after about a week. The centipedes are uncommon, but not totally unusual.
The cats did a good job. Neither took any injuries.

I have decided today will be the day I do as little as possible. And since I’m camped out in a hotel in Kent, Washington on a gloriously cool cloudy Northwest day I’m going to do just that.
Except I need food.
And I forgot to pack underwear.

So yesterday was granddaughter’s fourth birthday party (her actual birthday is Tuesday). As you might expect she was bouncing off the walls and ceilings. While they were shopping, Mommy took her into a florist shop, where she burbled all over the owner that it was her birthday. The owner GAVE her a dozen and a half pink roses.
Lesson: tall, cute, polite blue eyed blonds get stuff.
Mommy knows she has some serious teaching to do!
Yoga this morning. now watching The Martian with my spouse and kids. Its a rare calm day together. Its kind of a restorative movie–pulling me back frim the brink of despair that Ive been teetering on since yesterdays events.
Did you finish your degree yet, or are you still working on it?

It’s a nice day out, but I’m still prostrated from my redeye flight (SEA – IAD) Friday. Just flat.
Mrs. Elmo went nuts rearranging furniture and painting the master bath while I was gone, so there is disaster mess everywhere. I have tons of laundry to do. I’m wasting a rare pleasant summer day. And I can’t bring myself to care about any of it. Zzzzzz…

Black eyed peas make great hummus. Use the normal ingredients but maybe with a little bit less garlic.

Dyeing wool for rug hooking today. Hot, sweaty business, but it’s a mild day weatherwise and I’ve got three fans blowing.
I made the mistake of watching Chuck Todd this morning, so I’m trying to obliterate the memories of the Republican puppets trying to dig Trump out of the ditch. Even some of the old guard Repubs are denouncing him, but there are plenty more who are celebrating this shitbag.
Keep fighting!

@Yutsano:
On the underwear front, I guess you’re weighing your options: (1) Buy underwear, which entails going out. (2) Go commando, and chill in your room. I’d pick option (2). If the hotel provides room service, you won’t need to leave your room to eat. Go ahead and pig out.
There. Problem solved. As ever, we aim to please.

Heh. Yesterday at my local nanobrewer a towhead, fourish, was lapping the joint with a very tolerant dog on leash and utterly owned the place. Everybody was awwwing and taking her picture. Didn’t stay long enough to see whether she walked out with a free four-pack.
It’s a quiet day today with no work that needs doing (tomorrow, on the other hand…); I think I’ll mosey down to the Huntington gardens and wander through the cacti and the Japanese garden for a while.
I once was in a local diner with a bunch of my family members, including my then 8-year-old niece. An older man accidentally bumped her chair with his, so he bought her a giant gooey brownie.
Yes, my niece really is that good-looking. I worry sometimes, because she’s the one with the crazy narcissistic mother who gets by with a series of sugar daddies, and I would hate for my niece to decide to do the same. But so far, she still wants to be a doctor.
Question: Has anyone watched the live action Ghost in the Shell with ScarJo? Like it? Hate it?

@Busybody: Thank you. I may give that a try with some of the ones I cooked today. There’s no way I can use all of them in a “cowboy caviar” type dish.

Just back from the farmer’s market thus morning. The place was crawling with decent neighbors and friends of every conceivable income level, the entirety of the sexual continuum, babes in strollers to Olds with walkers, skin colors and colorful tattooed tableaus from palest alabaster to the deep, ebony of South Asia , and so many nationalities -like the U. N. on casual friday.
No nazis.
Everyone together buying fresh, local food and flowers. The air was filled with the savory scent of teriyaki chicken from the buddies temple’s annual festival.
It was easy like Sunday Morning.

.Question: Has anyone watched the live action Ghost in the Shell with ScarJo? Like it? Hate it?.
Overall I was disappointed, but I liked parts of it. I am not a huge fan of the original, but it is superior in every way to the live action version.
The movie got weighed down by silly charges of racism and cultural appropriation, often by people who admitted that they had not seen the movie or the original or much anime.
One thing that I found personally interesting is that ScarJo has appeared in a number of films as a nonhuman or altered being. I respect her choices here and wonder if they were deliberate since they are often critiques of beauty, gender and sexuality expectations.
@Brachiator: Finally saw Rangoon, it began well, ended badly. Kangana Ranaut was awesome, she is a chameleon, totally different from her Queen persona. I may do a review soon.
