“Nazis. I hate these guys.”

Nazi trash parading through Charlottesville, Virginia earlier tonight:

I’m with Indy:

Makes my blood boil to see these vile scumbags on parade. It’s not like we didn’t know they were around. They’ve always been around. But now they’re strutting through the streets, emboldened by fellow travelers in the White House.

Here’s a slogan for the Democratic Party: “Make Nazis Slither Back Under Their Fucking Rocks Again.”

The judge that granted the injunction to keep it there didn’t consider the safety and security of the neighborhood at all. It’s not enough to unfriend them on the book of faces, or to quietly change the subject. In an unsigned editorial, the local Charlottesville paper did that classic white leadership thing: blamed all this on the black guy, specifically city councilor Wes Bellamy, who by rudely pointing out certain things and taking certain inconvenient actions, apparently, some how, brought all these white racists to this “university town, which is at once progressive and quaint” (yep, that line is in the bravely unsigned editorial).

Here’s a twitter thread from a black resident of Charlottesville who earlier this evening attended a special church service arranged in response to this hatefest. The church is very near where the nazi Tiki torch rally took place this evening. Fortunately it sounds like there were no injuries, at least not to the church attendees; only some momentary inconvenience during their departure from the service.

By the way, the twitter thread I linked is by a guy named John Edwin Mason, who has written about Affrilachians – African-American residents of Appalachia. I found the historical accounts interesting, and I love the kind of old photos he reproduced there. Just FYI…

First off, I went to public HS like many other people. I regret mentioning that act, now. I don’t think eating a girl out is fun. Doesn’t mean I’m some repressed fundy freak about sex. Second, M^4 asked what I did and I showed them. I really was afraid I’d crossed a line. Third, it was only yesterday I mentioned that, not all week.

I had feared that this might happen: I’m afraid I’ve let the Girl down.
I was administering her first string change. I was worried that I might kink a string, but fortunately that didn’t happen. But when the high E string kept slipping out of the hole in its tuning peg, I got all wee-weed up and wound it so tight that I broke it. Well, that’s one set of D’Addarios down the drain. I hope my luck with the other set of strings (also D’Addarios) gets better.

You don’t have to change the whole set just for one string. Replace the E string and keep the rest of that set for spares, to change individual strings as needed.

We had two big spruces cut down yesterday. Couldn’t find a thing wrong with them, and we are thinking that the drought killed them. They died a year apart. Stood next to each other for more than 25 years. Down the road there’s a winery that has a pair of huge oaks in the pasture in front of their tasting room. We noticed today that both trees are dead, lending to our theory that the drought killed ours. We were suffering from the drought the same number of years that California was. It’s devastating, and expensive.

Okay. Yes, it will all end peacefully, in the sense that there is no real chance of the widescale violence you anticipate happening. The government making life Hell for minorities is the worst we can expect, which is pretty damn bad but nothing like you fear. This is as bad as it gets, the nation’s out-and-proud gathered in the friendliest territory they can find, demonstrating early in the middle of the night because they’re so fucking scared they’ll be wildly outnumbered at their planned demonstration, poking a tiny group of people with torches.

At least, that’s the most large scale it gets. A significant uptick in hate crimes because they know the DoJ will turn a blind eye? Yeah. But that’s ‘two or three times normal’ not ‘campaign of violence and intimidation’ or ‘civil war.’

They’re also not going to cancel elections. They’ll try to rig them, but they’ve already hit diminishing returns on that. We outnumber them, and if we get off our asses in 2018 and vote, we will drown them.

Makes my blood boil to see these vile scumbags on parade. It’s not like we didn’t know they were around. They’ve always been around. But now they’re strutting through the streets, emboldened by fellow travelers in the White House.

Yep, exactly. They’ve always been around, but they used to be on the fringe – basic nationalism and WW2-mythology if nothing else meant that neither party would be in a rush to claim neo-Nazis, even if they were also racist as fuck and even if they supported groups with identical beliefs but different self-descriptions (i.e. Confederate over Nazi). That changed in 2016. For the first time in any of these people’s living memories, neo-Nazis have a friend in the White House, and no matter how his presidency ends, they can now at least count on one of the two major parties going to bat for them and they know it.

If/when this goes to hell today and a quiet downtown neighborhood gets trashed it’s on his head. The city wanted to move the nazis to a much larger somewhat more secluded park. The Court said no, Kesslers first amendment rights would be impacted.

I normally think these guys are more lame and ridiculous than anything else, but there was something about that video that was just chilling

I had a conversation on LGM three years ago on this topic. My point was that we may have grown up thinking of these people as just freaks and losers, but that’s exactly what the original NSDAP/Brownshirts were when they started out, too. Except when you feed nice white middle class people a steady diet of racially-driven hysteria for long enough (look at GoogleGate for the latest example), it turns out that a stupendous number of these nice white middle class respectable people are perfectly happy to turn to the freaks and losers for salvation.

From the videos the counter protesters posted, it appears the Nazis beat them with their tiki torches, used mace, and physically removed the small group of 40 people.

I have no doubt the relatives who were indignantly explaining to me that OWS was “a mob” and “anarchists” who deserved everything they got from the cops and who’ve spent the last half-a-year getting the vapors over Black Bloc violence will be along any minute to give us a similar freakout about this.

I think it’s good that they are showing their faces. That way we can see who they are. They think they’re the majority now, but they’re wrong. I hope they are outnumbered 10 to 1 or more tomorrow – that’s the real story. I’d be there demonstrating if I weren’t in MO.

I think this has been inevitable ever since it became apparent that white people were eventually going to be outnumbered in the U.S. They are terrified by that for a number of reasons, and Trump is their last gasp at trying to hold on to power. They know how they would treat people if they gained power after being treated the way black and brown people have been treated in this country. They’re terrified that will happen to them.

And yes, we should call them Nazis, because that’s what they are. Most people have no idea what alt-right is – that’s why they coined that term, to make themselves seem respectable. We need to rip that veneer off them, even if the press and TV pundits think it’s “impolite”. They don’t think they should have to be polite to us – why should I have to be polite to them?

Trumplenacht is coming. I don’t know. Maybe the movies & video games they see make them think a civil war is easy. There is a part of these nazis mind sets that is altered, removed just a step from reality. Their echo chamber whips it around and amps it up to 11. When Trump was elected I figured moderates of all strips & liberals would see the shitshow and come together. But now I see there is a large group of ‘liberals’ who are determined to make the USA a Maine election where the progressives split. Bone heads. We need to speak from a together standpoint. Litmus tests hurt us right now. It’s the wrong message and it divides us. Plus, we really don’t disagree all that much. Nothing like how we relate to the fascists. I wish I could talk sense into those demanding purity. There is a civil war on the horizon. It’d be better if we actually were in control of as much of government as we can.
