OzarkHillbilly
@Kay: It’s his world, we’re just in it.
opiejeanne
@Patricia Kayden: They look a lot like Mexicans because many of those people are also Native Americans. There was no border between what we call the US and Mexico back then and several groups lived both north and south of the border. The Kiowas, Apaches, Yumas, Pimas, Zuni, Hopi, Navajo, to name just a few.
opiejeanne
@TenguPhule: Can you tell one tribal group from another?
I heard a woman question an actor, A. Bone Martinez, about why he had been cast to play an Indian since he was a Mexican. He was very gentle in his answer to her, explaining that many Mexicans ARE Native Americans. He was born in California, of Native American, Spanish, and Mexican (sic) descent.

You mean Wintrich wasn’t tweeting on behalf of the grumpy people in the photograph, expressing the words they were thinking? I am disappoint.

To be fair, how could he have known? I mean there isn’t a feather in sight and nobody is wearing war paint!
I on the other hand read that tweet as if it had been written by a native american. It makes sense then.
Kay
Such a weird way to put that. Sounds finite – X amount of education or health care or jobs- not enough to go around.
Maybe Putin pushes anti-immigrant policy world-wide because he has to keep people IN the country. He’s pretty sure people won’t be flocking there if they’re moving around and he can’t lose any more native-borns.

@Kay:
Obviously, with Trump’s universal acknowledgement as the most honest president ever (he makes Honest Abe look like a lying sack of you-know-what), the Boy Scouts are clearly lying. Besides, Trump is incapable of ever giving anything but the greatest speech anyone ever heard. His speech to Congress was the greatest ever given in that chamber. Naturally, we have to rely on the greatest judge of oratory ever — Donald J. Trump — in order to know which speeches are the greatest, but since Trump is the most modest man alive, he would never exaggerate the greatness of one of his speeches. With Donald J. Trump you know you’re always getting the straight scoop. Just the facts, ma’am. We all need to thank Donald J. Trump for his incomparable service to humanity.
I know it’s coming, but when Trump says crap like that — the Boy Scouts told him his speech was the greatest ever — it still amazes me. I grew up believing that boasting about one’s accomplishments was unseemly. But making up accomplishments and then bragging about them wasn’t even a real thing except with people who were seriously deranged. Trump qualifies.
Kay
I didn’t realize they had all these emails and voicemails for this lawsuit. It’s really well documented.
It’s also interesting they got rid of Spicer, who is the connection to the President in the events.
So despite their denials that “no one cares” about the Russia story, the whole Right wing fever swamp went to fucking insane lengths to misdirect on it? Hmmm. I think someone cares about the Russia story.
Because they have the emails and voicemails, Butowsky has to say he made up virtually everything he said or wrote. Except the meeting with Spicer took place, so they’re asking you to believe Butowsky made up every single thing he said or wrote EXCEPT the meeting with Spicer.

Way to go, Ozzie! I used to grow catnip for my cats — it just grows and grows and grows. Two of them loved to eat the freshly picked leaves. The third would go nuts just smelling and licking my fingers after I’d crushed a leaf between my thumb and index finger. I always had to interrupt the process because she’d go from smelling to licking to biting…ouch…with seriously escalating intensity. Patricia Kayden
@Morzer: It’s the stuff that they’re doing in the dark which really scares me. I read yesterday that Sessions is working to eliminate affirmative action and to go after any programs which he deems “anti-White”. Huge sigh.
Betty Cracker
@Kay: The documents focus on Wheeler and Zimmerman’s involvement in the fake news story because it’s Wheeler’s suit. But Sean Hannity, probably Trump’s most prominent toady, flogged that story so relentlessly that the Rich family contacted the show’s producers and asked them to stop.
This was after Fox retracted the story featuring claims attributed to Wheeler. We know Hannity and Trump are in regular communication since Hannity brags about it constantly. He had dinner with Trump at the White House just the other day.
I don’t believe for one second that Trump wasn’t involved in pushing that phony story — while bellowing about “fake news” all the while. Just as you can find an old Trump tweet that criticizes in others behavior Trump is currently engaged in himself, you can bet your boots if he’s squealing about some alleged wrongdoing against his own precious person, he’s done it himself.
Patricia Kayden
@TriassicSands:
Because you’re a normal, decent human being. Trump’s constant boasting about himself makes you wonder how he was raised. I understand humble brags but there is nothing humble about Trump’s constant “I am the greatest” self puffery. I still can’t over the Cabinet meeting where he sat there smiling as everyone in the room took turns praising him. Who the hell does that?
Baud
@Betty Cracker: I hope the Rich family will sue Fox and Hannity, and maybe even Trump now.
OzarkHillbilly
@Morzer: Actually, loons can’t walk, their legs are too far back on their bodies. I found that out when rescuing a loon from a fishing net. Funniest thing in the world watching it flop across the dock and back into the water. He didn’t even say thank you.
TriassicSands
@Patricia Kayden:
It’s not clear if he knows he’s lying. He exists in a world where wanting something to be true makes it true. Obviously, none of the people close to him ever correct anything he says. In fact, read virtually any transcript of any interview with Trump. No matter what outrageous nonsense he spews out, the interviewers not only don’t correct him, they respond in ways that make it seem like they agree. Since the day he took office, I’ve wanted to hear just one “journalist” openly contradict what he says, and refuse to yield. Still waiting.
The WSJ interview is a good example, though Gerard Baker is not a likely candidate to do real journalism.
Morzer
@OzarkHillbilly:
Apparently they do have something in common with Trump after all.
Kay
@Betty Cracker:
I agree that Trump was in on it- all he does is golf and watch coverage of himself. So one of two things are true- they either believe the Russia story is hugely politically damaging or the Russia story has merit and is a substantive threat.
What it “proves” fairly conclusively is they don’t think it’s minor and they don’t believe “no one” cares about it. Trump cares about it, a lot, and so does Fox.
They put more effort into this than they did passing Trumpcare.
Not that it surprises anyone here but I’d just like to point out how full of shit the Trumpsters are on “family”. They’re promoting this theme that they value some kind of “family loyalty” thing (because they value nothing else). They shit all over Rich’s family. All this nonsense Trump spouts about “a father helping his son” – they stuck a knife in the Rich family and just kept twisting it.

I had a case with an Indian tribe (which was a lot of fun for me- very different) and they were Maine/Canada and they resembled the people in that photo and also resembled Mexican Americans I rep. It was sort of fun for everyone involved here- we had to recognize the tribal council as a court in our court and our (wonderful) clerk of courts really dove into the challenge of how to do that- researched it, set the whole thing up. The council was all-female and so was the group on our end so we were joking that diplomacy between nations would go better if everyone was as cooperative as we were all being :)

@Baud: Hugs, Baud. In my thoughts, and may whatever is troubling you turn around.
I feel hateful too. It’s a whole world of “the emperor has no clothes” and he’s vindictive and ignorant too. Why I just lurk lately. Too much to process.

@OzarkHillbilly:
Reading Kushner’s talk about the Middle East peace process made me want to scream. It’s moronic. He says very general things everyone knows as if he’s the first to discover them – like that it’s emotionally charged! And they’re going to make great deals. He talks exactly like Trump, but without the rambling. That same utter, delusional stupidity. The same phrasings. The same meaningless, self-flattering generalities. Holy shit, is Kushner an imbecile.
@TriassicSands:
I have heard journalists contradict him. He tells them they’re wrong, repeats his lie, then talks over them until they give up and let him change the subject.

@sherparick: We need to figure out how to trim Fox News world waaaay back. I don’t see how that level of propaganda and disinformation can co-exist with a democracy.
We’ve had the example of Nazi Germany and Rwanda’s Radio Milles Collines hate programming. We would NEVER have Trump without rightwing media poisoning the electorate.
You can’t counterprogram against it. We’ve heard, anecdotally, how some Fox listeners return to their previous selves once they are no longer allowed to watch it. It’s a poison; almost a drug.

Help….read an article recently in which it was stated (roughly speaking) that Donald Trump believes if it’s good for Donald Trump, it’s good, if it’s bad for Donald Trump it’s bad, questions of legality, morality, ethics, etc., simply aren’t part of the equation for him. So he really doesn’t believe he’s done anything wrong – ever.
None of which constitutes a particularly sharp insight, but it was phrased in a very succinct fashion. Does this ring any bells?

@danielx:
Standard narcissism. Not even a high level. You can find that thinking in assholes everywhere. Any customer service job will intimately familiarize you with it.

Baud –
I hope things get better for you. We — and VP-elect-to-be Poco — need you in a good place.
Quinerly
@SFAW:
Poco/Baud 2020?
Quinerly
@Baud:
Poco sends out a very special “Baud goose.”
Patricia Kayden
@SFAW: Well, Poco certainly has a high opinion of himself, doesn’t he? There was a time when dogs knew their place. However, given our current Vice Prez, Poco may be a big improvement. I assume he’s not a Christianist trying to oppress gays and women.

@Gin & Tonic: Thanks…..
Colour me completely unsurprised by this. I would expect it is pretty close to third world levels. This is the end result of pluto/kleptocratic reign.

At least when Scaramucci stabs someone, it’s not in the back.

@Patricia Kayden:
Pretty low bar; a dead gerbil would be an improvement.
The Moar You Know
@Elizabelle: Tried that with my mother. It did not work. She turned right even harder, went to the internet and found even better sources of sweet, sweet hate. To take your drug analogy, I cut off her oxy supply and now she’s mainlining black tar heroin.
She used to be a liberal, way back when. Taught us kids right. Killing is wrong. War is wrong. Racism is wrong. Then in 85-86 the Mexican economy crashed, every street in San Diego was literally lined with thousands of Hispanics looking for work, and that was the end of any of that for her. Now I’ll admit those were scary times; she had people jumping the fence into her backyard to use the hose for water (as a single woman, yeah, that’s scary). I had a line of people at my apartment complex lining up at 3am to bathe in the hot tub. Desperate folks. And desperate people are a little scary under the best of circumstances. But by 1987 that was all over. She never got over it. But she stayed a party-line, reasonably sane Dem until Obama.
Obama flipped a bad switch for a lot of people in this country. Not his fault. But a lot of blacks, browns and poors are going to pay for his election for a long, long time.

@Schlemazel: So did I. I thought it was deliciously ironic.
The Very Reverend Crimson Fire of Compassion
@Baud: Be as hateful as you need to to make it through. Just remember that people you’ve never met are rooting for you.
quakerinabasement
Can the Gateway Pundit guy be THAT stupid? Hardly seems possible.
SgrAstar
@TriassicSands: Respectfully disagree. It’s not the journalists’ job to push back. Their job is to expose him. The WSJ succeeded in this despite themselves, because that transcript was leaked by a WSJ staffer who has integrity. Real journalism is battered, but alive.
Shalimar
@quakerinabasement: You must not be familiar with his oeuvre if you aren’t sure whether he is that stupid. Randomly click through Jim Hoft stories on Wonkette for a summary. Jim Hoft is dumber than you are capable of imagining.
Though this particular faux pas was by Wintrich, the “White House” correspondent. Yes, the Trump White House did give press credentials to an avowed sycophant with no journalistic experience. Who isn’t much smarter than Hoft.
No One You Know
@Eric S.: Excellent work! We have catmint growing wild, which might as well be Red Bull.

@Elizabelle:
I have to confess my posting has way dropped off since last November. And probably is more … hmmm, maybe less constructive than it was.
I had a bad feeling from late October right up to the election. I will confess that my posts at 3 am have sometimes been hostile, long before Trump’s victory.
Now the only important question is how many zeros will Trump’s casualty numbers have… millions, or billions?
Baud: hope you do better in the near future. I’m sorry to hear you aren’t doing swell in this Brave New World of Trumpism. Well, no surprise, none of us are really doing well at all.
Hang in there, and you may rely on us for positive reinforcement as needed!!
