Howzabout this from the WaPo?
LONDON — Swedish prosecutors on Friday dropped their investigation into a rape allegation against Julian Assange, closing a nearly seven-year legal saga that led the WikiLeaks founder to seek sanctuary at the Ecuadoran Embassy in London.
But British police said that Assange still faces arrest for jumping bail if he walks out of diplomatic protection, which Assange claims is still needed to keep him from being extradited to the United States to face charges of disclosing confidential military and diplomatic documents.
The Swedish Prosecution Authority said in a statement that Sweden’s director of public prosecution, Marianne Ny, “today decided to discontinue the investigation” into a rape claim against Assange.
My favorite part where he channels Mussolini:
The silver-haired activist made a rare appearance on the balcony of the embassy late Friday afternoon with a clenched fist in the air.
“Today is an important victory,” he told the throng of journalists camped outside the embassy, a stone’s throw from the Harrods department store.
we can’t wait for Cole to make a top down decision, we are the activist grass roots, and it is up to us to open this thread to jackals and directionless ramblers
we are the ones we’ve been waiting for

@Major Major Major Major: Right. I learned in the last thread about the importance of strictly following IT best practices.
When Donald Trump sits down for dinner in Saudi Arabia, caterers have ensured that his favorite meal – steak with a side of ketchup – will be offered alongside the traditional local cuisine.
FFS. Is there no end to the shame he’s going to make this country feel?!
@Omnes Omnibus: Fine, too. My hands are pretty much all healed up from injudicious honeybee installation, the weekend is almost upon us, and I sense a fine bottle of wine in the offing to accompany the evening meal. Life Is Good, as a certain stick figure likes to remind us.

@Miss Bianca: I am planning buying a drink for my JD tonight, since it turns 21 today.
@Major Major Major Major: Not to open up the can of worms that got flung over the last thread (honest!) but Just Curious: as an IT professional yourself, what is your take on the whole “BUT HER EMAIILLZZZ” thing? My take on it was that the private server may have been unorthodox, and not the optimum solution, but not the Big Stinking Deal that either the Republicans or the concern trolls were making it out to be. Am I wrong?

Miss Bianca
@Omnes Omnibus: Ha! What does your JD fancy by way of libation?
@Miss Bianca: depends on who you ask. But my take is that the State regulations, in combination with the old authorized computer types etc., made modern office work essentially impossible. Hillary wanted to work in a 21st century manner, so she broke the rules in a nudge-wink-‘unauthorized’ way that shouldn’t have been a big deal. But Clinton rules.
That’s inedible. I remember reading about Henry Ford II some years back. When he wanted a hamburger the only thing the chef was allowed to use was ground filet mignon. The chef thought he was a shithead.
So this albino meal worm has lived in the embassy for seven years… does he pay rent? Does he do his own laundry? Is he just a friggin’ leach? What does Ecuador get out of it?
@Miss Bianca: I’m not M^4, but I have run enterprise-scale messaging platforms. You are not wrong. HRC’s setup was solid and conventional from what could be seen from the technical perspective. There is no evidence it was ever hacked. She went the route she did because DoS IT could not meet her stated requirements.

@West of the Rockies (been a while): The previous President of Ecuador, who was solidly anti-Yanqui, got an opportunity to stick his thumb in Obama’s eye. That’s pretty much it.

@Omnes Omnibus: I thought bar study was Thursday nights.
@Gin & Tonic: @Major Major Major Major: thanks, guys – you more or less confirmed my gut feeling, but I really appreciate hearing it from people who actually know more about the subject than I do!
Admittedly, this bout of the flu is making me crankier than usual, but I’m pretty pissed that a post about Anthony Weiner’s lack of dick control turned into 300+ comments about how his lack of dick control was all Hillary and Huma’s fault. Jesus fuck, I hate people sometimes.

After at least a year of not being bothered, autoplay video ads are now in the right hand column of the site again. Wasn’t happening even yesterday.
I do not like this.

@Raoul: uBlock Origin (and similar ad blockers for web browsers) let you turn off ads like that. (When it’s running, right click somewhere on the page, click “Block element”, then click on the thing you don’t want to see any more. It will create a “rule” that you can modify (e.g. use “*” to make it more general, etc.).)

Please pretty please can you give us an open thread. If you don’t, we’ll shit all over this one, because the one downstairs is infested. : )
Baud
@hovercraft: The bottom two. Why can’t this be an open thread? There’s no ask in the post.
Major Major Major Major
@Baud: it doesn’t SAY ‘open thread’, Baud!.

I don’t have to worry about this stuff.
