On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Balloon Juicers who are on the road, travelling, etc. and wish to share notes, links, pictures, stories, etc. from their escapades. As the US mainland begins the end of the Earth day as we measure it, many of us rise to read about our friends and their transient locales.
So, please, speak up and share some of your adventures, observations, and sights as you explore, no matter where you are. By concentrating travel updates here, it’s easier for all to keep up-to-date on the adventures of our fellow Commentariat. And it makes finding some travel tips or ideas from 6 months ago so much easier to find…
Have at ’em, and have a safe day of travels!
Should you have any pictures (tasteful, relevant, etc….) you can email them to [email protected] or just use this nifty link to start an email: Start an Email to send a Picture to Post on Balloon Juice
Hard to believe we’re at another week’s end. I hope that’s it for events this week – it’s been ultra-dense with developments big and small. Sharing something that someone else saw is a much-needed tonic. Over the fold for today’s dose.
First up, the rest from this batch from Rlchina 大芒果
Where it was taken: “new city” south Fuzhou China
When: Sundy Feb 26, 2017
Other notes or info about the picture: We were walking around far south Fuzhou in an area they call “new city” and came upon a temple renovation. We were allowed in to take pictures.
Thank you so much, we can’t wait to see more!
Next , from LeComteMonteCristo:
Where: Churchill Downs, Louisville
When: May 14, 2017
For holidays, nothing beats the track. Food service is good, and everyone is occupied with gambling and drinking.
These are from outdoor areas in the Stakes Room.
Looks like a beautiful day at the races!
And a little catch-up from Laura S.:
Here’s the shoes pic that didn’t make it earlier: “Giantess”
And one last Highline Park.
Thanks so much for re-sending those!
Travel safely everyone, and for those who aren’t straying too far from home, be safe. And to greennotGreen and her family, I have been swamped the last two days so I have not kept up, but our thoughts and prayers are with you. And to all of you suffering or recovering from the loss of a loved one. I know at least one front pager has had some recent pain, and a number of commenters have had terrible news in recent months. We hold all of you in the light.
SiubhanDuinne
Thank you, Alain, for providing this early-morning service. And thanks to Laura S., LeComte, and Rlchina for today’s great photos!

The pictures for today were terrific ?

Love that lion. I am always amazed by what the right hands can do with stone.
Looks to me like a losing day at the track is better than a productive day at work.
The Wicked Witch of the West must have finally gotten her hands on the ruby red slippers.
Vaya con Dios, gnG. Sleep well.
divF
Good day, all from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I haven’t taken any photos yet, due to my having packed the wrong electrical outlet adapter. I now have one from a colleague here and everything is charging up nicely. I hope to have some pictures to post in the next day or so.
ETA: since I am out of sync with the U.S., every new web search presents another surprise. The first one for today: Chaffetz is resigning from Congress.
OzarkHillbilly
@divF: You better.
Ukko
Driving across rural Finland with my better half, the last time I was here was in 2003. The level of “Americanization” for lack of a better word is amazing. You can really tell that most things are made in Asia now and just rebranded for where they are sold.
Is there a proper term for this pan-western homogenization? The place and the peeps are still great. Just some of the qwerkiness is worn away. Or maybe I am just getting old.

Open thread? Adam said in a previous thread the AHCA was not going to pass the CBO and would have to be remade. I cannot find confirmation of this online, and it seems wildly important.
Frankensteinbeck
Per above, Adam is normally rock solid reliable, and I told all my friends. I really don’t want to be disappointed on this.
jacy
From what I’ve read the bill hasn’t even been released to the Senate — although Ryan neglected to tell members of the House that. http://www.businessinsider.com/gop-health-care-bill-re-vote-obamacare-cbo-score-2017-5

@jacy: I’m confident people who don’t know who to pass legislation got health policy right.
Frankensteinbeck
@jacy:
Yes, but the first version supposedly passed the CBO by a large amount. Are the revisions so huge it will, now?
EDIT: I told all my friends, because this news is huge. Now I’m squirming because I passed along unreliable info.
Baud
@Frankensteinbeck:
You would never make it in GOP politics.
OzarkHillbilly
@Frankensteinbeck: What does it mean to “pass the CBO”? They score everything, but they neither pass nor fail a bill. Congress does that.
OzarkHillbilly
@Frankensteinbeck: In the previous thread, @Morzer: has what I think you are talking about.
Frankensteinbeck
@OzarkHillbilly:
If it doesn’t reduce the budget by 2 billion a year, the senate can’t/won’t vote on it. It doesn’t fit reconciliation. But the first one slashed medicaid so deeply it was a 10 billion year reduction. How can the amendments make that big a difference?

Since a valued commenter offered some constructive criticism, I’ve tried something different with some of my more challenged photos. Here’s some interim results:
Downtown LA from Echo Park
and
Downtown LA with Mt. San Antonio.
The criticism was that some pictures turned out flat and didn’t have a “zing”. Let me know what you all think.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@OzarkHillbilly: Ice cream boy(aka the Speaker) didn’t have the CBO score the bill before he rushed to pass it so he could have his kegger afterwards. My understanding is that it has to be scored by CBO for reconciliation in the Senate. So it appears that they’ll have to try to pass it again after the CBO scores the bill.
OzarkHillbilly
@Frankensteinbeck: So it’s the Senate’s rules then.
I don’t know, they added $8 billion for a high risk insurance pool, but I thought that was over 10 years. Whatever, we already knew that Ryan can’t add and subtract, and that the whole GOP is math averse. Surprises me not in the least that they fucked it up. They could fuck up a wet dream.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@OzarkHillbilly: See, you had the old fashioned math that didn’t have magic asterisks. Silly Hillbilly.
Alain the site fixer
@Ukko: please do send pictures, I’ve always wanted to visit!
Alain the site fixer
@?BillinGlendaleCA: you’ll be published Monday so please do keep sending !
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Alain the site fixer: I’ve got some pics of LA decked out for the IOC(LA’s 2024 Olympic bid), I’ve got a problem with a couple of the pics that need some work. I’ll probably finish them today or this weekend and send them out. I was wondering for a bit if you’d received the pics I’d sent. Thanks.
Origuy
I don’t have any trips planned at the moment. I have a lot of pictures from my March 2013 trip to Moscow. I could send a few to be run whenever.
laura
@SiubhanDuinne: I stand ready to travel at any time in order to provide photos to the jackals.
