On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Balloon Juicers who are on the road, travelling, etc. and wish to share notes, links, pictures, stories, etc. from their escapades. As the US mainland begins the end of the Earth day as we measure it, many of us rise to read about our friends and their transient locales.
So, please, speak up and share some of your adventures, observations, and sights as you explore, no matter where you are. By concentrating travel updates here, it’s easier for all to keep up-to-date on the adventures of our fellow Commentariat. And it makes finding some travel tips or ideas from 6 months ago so much easier to find…
Have at ’em, and have a safe day of travels!
Should you have any pictures (tasteful, relevant, etc….) you can email them to [email protected] or just use this nifty link to start an email: Start an Email to send a Picture to Post on Balloon Juice
First up, from Vicky Delany:
Flying into Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. May 8, 2017.
Vicki Delany
Wow. Please, keep on sending in these aerial shots – so familiar. I grew up flying and to this day always ask for a window seat even though I hate flying because I HAVE to look out and just see the world from above. Thanks for some perspective!
Next up, from omar (a retry from a few days ago because of technical difficulties):
Where it was taken: Vienna, Augarten
When: May 6th
Other notes or info about the picture:
I picked up Spawn #2 from a play-date, and the bus back home passed by
the Augarten park. Inside, there are two WW2 anti-aircraft towers. The one in the picture is the gun tower, the second, square one was the guiding tower.
That reminds me of how the old Cold War-era AT&T buildings looked/look in many big American cities! Secure fortresses with a commanding, up-high view of nearby ground.
Finally, a belated Cinco de Mayo photo-barrage from China:
Where it was taken: Califresh restaurant Wanda Plaza Fuzhou Fujian China
When: Cinco de Mayo, 2017
Commenter nym: Rlchina 大芒果
Other notes or info about the picture: Too many shots of tequila and too many confusing conversations about why Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo… Great time was had by all.
I’m so thrilled that we have at least one American teacher abroad sharing their world with us! As the son of two academics, and someone who’s had lots of personal experience with American teachers in foreign countries all my life, I just have to say: please, please keep sharing!
You’re making such a difference there, but sharing your sights and impressions and such really help us all to see how neat and amazing the world is, everywhere.
Have a great day all, travel safely, and be kind to one another; never add to another’s burden without caution.
Elizabelle
Wonderful! Loved starting with the aerial shot of Victoria. Flying over the coast is always pretty.
What does RIchina teach? Great opportunity; great pics.

Cinco Dr Mayo in China?
The aerial picture was so cool

@Elizabelle: @Elizabelle:
I began the year as the math teacher at an international school in Fuzhou China
now I am the secondary director (principal) there. I taught in the hood for 27 years and retired after 35 years teaching the states. While I was looking for work a pop up ad led me to go teach in China, The fabulous Mrs. Mango remains in the states but comes to visit for months at a time. It is the adventure of a lifetime
Elizabelle
@rlchina 大芒果: So glad you’re on your adventure of a lifetime, and enjoy your photos. Good on you for making the leap.

Love Vicky Delany’s aerial shot of Victoria — I haven’t flown for years, but when I did I always got a window seat, for the same reasons articulated by Alain.
And the Chinese Cinco de Mayo pictures are cool. Everyone looks as though they’re having lots of fun :-)
Elizabelle
I am glad that our darling greennotGreen has lived long enough to see the Trumpster step on his dick, but good.
Good morning there, you in the beautiful sun-filled space, surrounded by late spring greenness and art and love.

Ah, the San Juan Islands!

Mike’s Barnicles just pronounced the Presidency in the balance, and Moanin’ Joe points out yet again that Trump is a lifelong Dem who has taken over the repub party in a hostile takeover. Will the repubs face up? Are they men or are they mice?
Heheheh.
Elizabelle
@bystander: Someone needs to ask Joe: you there: if Trump is a lifelong Democrat, why did he choose to run for YOUR PARTY’s nomination, and win it? Why was he unstoppable in YOUR PARTY?
Face it, Scarborough, Trump would have been laughed out of the Democratic primaries. There’s no room for him there.
Joe S is such a whingeing liar. Good taste in men, Mika!
TS
@Elizabelle: Joe always jumps into the war when the battle is over – he is ALWAYS on the winning side.

Huh. Cinco de Mayo in China. All these years I thought it was a uniquely American exercise in over consumption. The things I learn here. :-)

Gorgeous pics! Thanks!

Ohh, I love BC. I need to visit there again soon. Thanks for the pictures, as usual!
There’s a small exclave south of Vancouver that’s “in Washington” just under the 49th parallel that I always thought would make a good setting for a TV show.
