Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There’s some extremely good trouble headed their way.

No one could have predicted…

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We have all the best words.

I really should read my own blog.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

False Scribes! False Scribes!

There will be lawyers.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Wetsuit optional.

Everybody saw this coming.

This blog will pay for itself.

I did not have this on my fuck 2020 bingo card.

All your base are belong to Tunch.

How do you get liars to care about the truth?

I can’t take this shit today. I just can’t.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

This fight is for everything.

Consistently wrong since 2002

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Tick tock motherfuckers! Tick fucking tock!

With all the excitement around Jon Ossoff, let’s not forget about the special in Montana. You can give to Rob Quist here.

The British snap election will be over before the GA06 runoff.

    Quist’s chances?

Montana open seat elections tend to be close. Though Democrats don’t seem to care as much because Montana isn’t sexy. Probably because it’s Montana and there are almost no non-white people there. Well, there are native Americans, but they are the forgotten minority.

So, heavily rural white people and native Americans – just the kind of people nationwide Democrats can’t get excited about.

    @guachi: Facepalmed for truth.

Sad thing is, of all the special elections recently, this is easily the most winnable for the least amount of money.

No kidding. You could spend a dollar and a half in MT and do well.

You could hammer home how awful the health care bill would screw over Montanans (who aren’t rich by any means) or anti-environment. Or how the Republicans want to implement what is effectively a sales tax (the border tax) in a state that has no sales tax. Montanans HATE HATE HATE the sales tax.

But, nope. Gotta go all in on the sexy suburban Atlanta district.

@guachi: Oh of course, you are just spot on that the Democrats would never have tried hard to win that congressional seat in Kansas if it did not have so many non-whites living there. If privilege were a dam, the people who have it would be screaming about drought conditions when the water goes down even an inch. That’s what you sound like.

I gave Rob Quist $100 several weeks ago and I have been inundated nonstop, and I mean like five times daily, for more money. I will give more if I can.

@guachi: Not sure if I agree with your analysis, pardner. Montana can be surprisingly blue – which means that white, rural Christians can be persuaded to vote Democrat.

Maybe when Tom Perez gets tired of running around the country with Democrat-Slagger #1, he can start working with state parties on this issue.

The republican Montana House speaker just killed a bill that would have allowed vote-by-mail in this election and would have saved the state $750,000. But repubs are afraid more Democrats will vote by mail, so there you go. I hope Quist wins by a large margin, despite their nefarious efforts.

As part of the Montana Diaspora, I am always encouraged by support for people like Rob Quist, who has lived in, traveled across and worked for the people of the state. I, too, donate about 20 bucks a week to his campaign and would pony up more if I could. The MT GOP is, not unlike their counterparts in other red states, pretty gutless (and remorseless, too, when it comes to how their actions might actually damage a significant number of citizens, e.g., killing the mail-in ballot, or murdering the Medicaid expansion, if they could).

I personally know at least 20 people who live in the state, Republicans, who are voting for Quist, partly because Trump, partly because Gianforte (his opponent) is just flat-out puerile.

    Thanks for the help.
