In case your day needs some cuteness, foster puppies!
Friend of mine, LFern, is fostering…again. She and the rest of the Fern family have been very successfully fostering this past year (since losing their beloved Kodiak).
Doing the foster dog thing again. This time I have a mama and 8 puppies. There were 9, but only 8 by the time they got to me. I’ve never had puppies this young. They are so adorable. they should be weaned in about 2 weeks, neutered about two weeks after that (at 8 weeks old) and then ready for adoption. Let me know if you need a puppy or check with Weld County Humane Society. Lolly the mom is an amazing dog too.
Previous fosters have all been successfully placed..now we’ll need homes for these guys. We’re going to go see them this week, I can’t wait. Bixby won’t be able to do his foster magic (he’s been so good with all her fosters) until they are much older, so he and Bailey will have to stay home for now.
Lolly, the mom, has already stolen my heart.

OMG, PUPPEHS!!!!!!!
TaMara (HFG)
@geg6: I’m telling you, if we didn’t already have a full house – Lolly would be living here.

Puppies!
If you foster animals and they don’t get adopted are you stuck with them?
TaMara (HFG)
@Major Major Major Major: No, when they are all healthy and socialized they actually usually go back to the shelter where they can be seen, walked and interact with potential families.

PART BORDER COLLIE????

Puppies! The critique group that read my pages at the conference said my heroine was boring, and they were 100 percent right, but then someone recommended a book called “Heroes and Heroines” that’s all about character archetypes and I realized that I had her archetype all wrong and that’s why she wouldn’t talk to me.
Also, the hero now has a dog. I needed a meet cute for them and it’s hard to go wrong with an unruly dog, even in a historical romance.
trollhattan
Puppehs! Li’l blue-eyed squeakers.
Kristine
Adorables!
Lake in particular. How can you tell she’s alpha?
Gravenstone
D’awwwwww. Just what I needed after a somewhat adventuresome trip home tonight.
Yarrow
Ohhhh!!!! Puppies! So cute! And Lolly is beautiful. Those ears! Love her.
Chris
Oh no, we’re in for it with these pics. Where are these pups, Colorado? We’re in So Cal but would still drive/make arrangements to adopt.
raven
Great, I took both dogs in for a teeth cleaning. Lil Bit was supposed to have had her teeth done when they took the growth off of her a couple of months ago but they forgot. She was going to be free so that was a bit of a break but they called an hour after I dropped her and said her heart rate had dropped quite a bit so we should take her to her cardiologist first. Oh yea, she’s been limping and they think it’s a disk issue just like the Bohdi! So, rather than a free teeth cleaning we get a visit to a specialist and 8 laser treatments for her disc problem. She’s sooooo sweet.
WereBear
@Mnemosyne: That’s fantastic. Just what you want to go to a conference for.
Glad you are here (heard about your incident belatedly) and not historic.
These puppies are so darned cute. They should vanish like on-sale shoes.
Yarrow
@raven: Awww…poor Lil Bit. And your poor wallet. Good thing she’s cute.
ThresherK
I see where Lolly has passed on some of her speckles.
raven
@Yarrow: Fortunately I already bought the buggy so I’ll just push her both ways and let the Bohdi ride home in the morning.
raven
@ThresherK: Aussie for sure.

@TaMara (HFG):
John would kill me if I brought another dog into the house, but damn. They are awesomely cute.
Major Major Major Major
@TaMara (HFG): Cool :)
TaMara (HFG)
@Chris: Yup, just a quick 15 hour drive away (one I’ve done many times, LOL)
Mnemosyne
@WereBear:
Thanks! I did a PSA on Facebook reminding people that it’s good to get basic first aid training (including the Heimlich maneuver) since you never know when it will come in handy.
The conference was small but very good — I think I only had one dud of a session.
Chris
@TaMara (HFG):
Ha! Now all I have to do is convince my husband. He’s a huge dog guy though. We would even be interested in Lolly…is she available for a forever home too?
Pogonip
Puppies! ??
kindness
Pics of puppies on a web site whatsfordinner.com could give one paws, if you know what I mean. (tongue in cheek intended)
Martha
@TaMara (HFG): You are killing me!!! I’m just south of you so I have no excuse whatsoever except a 10year old golden who is a princess and a crazy travel schedule…
Tripod
@Mnemosyne:
Can I drop you a line on the blogspot?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@raven: Hope your pup gets better, Nikki’s just about finished her treatment for her disk issue. The both see the doc in a few weeks for shots.
Shell
Damn, damn, damn! Im ODing on all the cuteness! Love the mother as well. Do they know what breeds are in her?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mnemosyne: Glad to hear your OK, I had to give my mom the Heimlich maneuver once.
zhena gogolia
Sweeties!
Pogonip
@Shell: I’d say some other type of shepherd as well as border collie. She has that alert I’m-counting-the-sheep look.
Pogonip
Methinks the brown pup with a black mask might have had a different father than the others.
Pogonip
@Mnemosyne: What happened?
Tripod
Way too many sharp teeth.
zhena gogolia
@Pogonip:
Australian?
Ruviana
@Pogonip: I feel bad that you’re maybe here waiting–Mnemosyne choked on part of her sandwich at her conference Friday (I think) and had the Heimlich Maneuver performed on her, thereby allowing her to continue her pursuit of romance novel author fame.
Pogonip
@zhena gogolia: Me, no, the pup, maybe. ?
Pogonip
@Ruviana: Glad she’s OK!
raven
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Was she having front leg motor issues?
Chris T.
Uh oh. Beware … that’s how I ended up adopting my foster kittens!
(I successfully gave back kittens I’d had for 4 weeks. This time, I had the kittens for 11 weeks, and they were not going back…)
Iowa Old Lady
@Mnemosyne: Cool. Dogs are always good. The only rule is you may not kill the dog.
LAO
So ridiculously cute.
(Delay in posting comment due to yelling at my soon to be 1 year old rescue).
rikyrah
The puppies are so cute ???
Mnemosyne
@Tripod:
Sure! I think I finally figured out how to retrieve that email.
MoxieM
@geg6: My thoughts exactly…puppehs!! sigh. As I give my old gal her 3 daily meds in sardine-flavored cream cheese, alternated with liverwurst. All pain meds, the poor baby. (Newfies & arthritis go together like peanut butter & fluff, alas.) It’s weeks, months if I’m really lucky.
Mnemosyne
@Pogonip:
Me, too! Turns out that coughing fit + sandwich + talking at lunch = potential fatality.
Farthestnorth
Sweet. Mom reminds me of my son’s dog who is a Texas Heeler which is improbably a mix between Australian Shepard and Australian Cattle Dog. Very smart and energetic, he loves to go runnng and skijoring. And herding other dogs, cats, toddlers etc. Great dog
Don’t post much but after a rotten day this spoke to me!
Tripod
@Mnemosyne:
Thanks. Let me know if you got it.
debit
@raven: Oh, ouch. Both for your pup and pocketbook.
Earl
Are those ACD mixes? Mom looks like she may be pure ACD/heeler.
If so, fair warning: they’re not much behind Border Collies on the energy level, and way more mouthy.
I love my ACD / corgi mix, but they’re not for everyone. You better *really* like either frisbee or agility.
satby
@Major Major Major Major: @TaMara (HFG): not to disagree TaMara, but it depends on the group you foster for. And if you foster older dogs or cats, you could easily be stuck with them. That’s how I ended up with 12 animals at the height of my fostering years.
satby
I thought there was Aussie Cattle Dog mixed in too. Beautiful pups.
TaMara (HFG)
@satby: This is a strict program. They need their foster parents to get them healthy – they have a shortage of foster parents, so it’s usually no more than a month and they discourage adopting – again because they are so short of foster parents they want to keep the ones they have trained. So far all the dogs have been adopted within 48 hours of their return to the shelter.
But I am kinda thinking Lolly might have found her forever home.
Mnemosyne
@Iowa Old Lady:
It’s a romance novel. I’m pretty sure no publisher would touch it if I dared to kill the dog.
Feebog
Showed the Mrs. the puppy pics, so dang cute. She threatened to beat me with a two by four if I even thought of getting another dog, so…. oh, have I mentioned I have a cousin in Denver I really need to visit soon?
