On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Folks,
We’re trying a new feature here, so let’s see how it goes for the next week or so before it’s fully automated.
This post is for Balloon Juicers who are on the road, travelling, etc. and wish to share notes, links, pictures, stories, etc. from their escapades. As the US mainland begins the end of the Earth day as we measure it, many of us rise to read about our friends and their transient locales.
So, please, speak up and share some of your adventures, observations, and sights as you explore, no matter where you are.
Have at ’em, and have a safe day of travels!
Should you have any pictures (tasteful, relevant, etc….) you can email them to [email protected] or just use this nifty link to start an email: Start an Email to send a Picture to Post on Balloon Juice

I don’t see a link to your email anywhere so I’ll post here.
The posting new posts to Facebook has been broken since Feb 16th. I went to go share a recent post and noticed the problem.

@Lee:
The link is the last sentence of Alain’s post. Just click on it and it will open an email populated with addressee and subject line.

@Lee: hmm. I didn’t know that, I’ll take a look later!

Snow came in quickly on my last day at the Grand Canyon yesterday. It was beautiful and scared away the inappropriately dressed tourists.? Great lunch at El Tovar but had to leave pretty quickly after that…park rangers were talking about closing the road to the Desert View entrance…I’m staying in Cameron (highly suggest the very dog friendly, Navajo run “Cameron Trading Post, Motel, and Restaurant…excellent accommodations, beautiful grounds, great restaurant and beautiful Native American Gallery that is separate from the more touristy trading post.) Happy trails from Quinerly; happy tails from Poco. Heading to Marble Canyon for a couple of nights and then Kanab for a week.

We took a pontoon boat tour of the St John’s River from Blue Springs State Park yesterday. The boat guide was a good naturalist and really good at spotting wildlife. 17 bird species, half a dozen gators, and a bunch of turtles. We saw two manatees (well, their tails) near the spring, but not clear enough to get a picture.
Heading back home this week. Tonight’s stop is a state park near Savannah.

@frosty:
Savannah is beautiful. Enjoy! There’s a really neat Irish bar down there on the river. Can’t recall the name of it ’cause it’s been 20 years. I do remember that they knew what they were doing…correct temperature for Guinness and nice pour.

Finally hit the road yesterday at 12:30 pm. Made it all of two miles before one of the bins on the truck decided to commit hare kare — presumably scattering small colored plastic balls all over the highway, from kiddo’s playpen — and about the same time the trailer brake warning light came on.
The wife and I have a yoga-inspired saying for these kinds of mishaps: unexpectasana. The stuff that keeps the mind flexible.
Futzed with the fuses (consisting largely of pulling them and putting them back in… and a lot of puzzled cyphering) and magically, the brakes came back to life.
Managed to log 364 miles and BellyKitten was fairly well-behaved until 10:30 pm, when he awoke from sleep and decided it was party time. A long night ensued since he was ecstatic at exploring the Airstream and had zero interest in sleep. Efforts toward same only elicited howls of disapproval. Finally, he passed out on my chest, only to repeat the sequence a couple hours later.

We got an early start, and made it to Kerr Scott Reservoir by 10 am. Momma cat is napping, then she’s going to pedal some of the delicious trails.
Me? Despite too little sleep, I’m grinning ear to ear. Beautiful day (low 70’s and sunny) and we’re just chilling by the water.

@BellyCat:
Great story! Made me smile. I’m in breathtakingly beautiful Marble Canyon, AZ. Funky lodge, old fashioned tv…fantastic views…plenty of Poco room for sniffing around. This place ROCKS. Better than that much touted Large Canyon south of me.

@BellyCat:
And welcome to my birthstate of NC! Grew up there on the Southern Outer Banks!

@Quinerly: your pic launches tomorrow so send more! Poco looks more awesome than I expected.
