Hundreds of Trump supporters rallied across the country to defend a president who they say has been treated unfairly https://t.co/GrHyUkYa8u

Almost too pathetic to inspire schadenfreude. Almost.
…[T]he modest crowds that showed up for the noontime rallies from New Jersey to Georgia to Colorado offered a reminder of what liberal groups learned eight years ago in the face of Tea Party anger at President Barack Obama: Stoking grass-roots energy is often easier for the outraged resistance than for the party pulling the levers in Washington.
Continue reading the main story“I’m getting a lot of comments from the leftists about, ‘Your crowd’s not going to be as big as our crowd,’” said Betty Blanco, a retired teacher from La Junta, Colo., on the state’s conservative eastern plains, who organized a rally on the steps of the gold-domed State Capitol. “I didn’t know it was a contest.”
About 150 Trump supporters turned out for Monday’s rally in Denver, held just across the street from a park that had swelled with tens of thousands of protesters as part of the Women’s March on Jan. 21…
It’s one thing to plan for a big excursion to an arena show by your favorite teevee celebrity; it’s a much less enticing task to waste a lunch hour in the company of a handful of fellow fanatics, out in the weather, with at best a stringer from the local news assigned to see if a fistfight breaks out in case there’s no more photogenic car crashes or fires before prime time.

Breitbart said today's pro-Trump rallies would be "MASSIVE." The photos I've seen so far: pic.twitter.com/3gnSaAayiz

I won't put up pictures of the Women's March because that would just be cruel. pic.twitter.com/r0P9lGQHJC

Tokyokie
Says the nitwit who voted for the candidate who gained fame as a reality-TV star.
Kropadope
@Tokyokie: Whose party always purports to speak for all of America, i.e. “Real America.”
MARCION
Ok, hear me out: Jon Stewart for President in 2020.
Yeah yeah not a politician, doesn’t know how government works etc. That glass ceiling has been blasted through by His Orangeness already. Stewart at least knows how government is supposed to work via his job so there’s some transferable skills.
If Trump is the Republican Carter, Stewart could really by that vaunted Democratic Reagan: media savvy due to media background (needed to beat Trump at his own game), outsider status (obvious) and also to a large degree a sock puppet for the various Party factions (I think Jon is wise enough to know he needs to delegate to people with real political experience.)
If he can put together a platform with some substance to go with the slogans, why not? We could do worse. We ARE doing worse.
amk
twitler said tens of people, not tons of people. FAKE NEWS LIES! SAD!
what a bunch of morose morons.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@MARCION: We told you to NOT do the brown acid.
amk
@MARCION: jeez.
Tokyokie
@Kropadope: And it speaks for “real America” by doing the bidding of murderous foreign kleptocrats.
Vince
That last one can’t be real, it’s a joke, right? Because otherwise, the cognitive dissonance in that statement is going to give me an aneurysm.
MARCION
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Yeah it’s ridiculous but so is Trump. Who else is already well placed to be a unifying figure for Dems? Unlike Jerry Brown Stewart’s what, 50 something? Who’s going to stop some snake like Cuomo or empty suit like O’Malley from grabbing the nom? The bench is weak. If it’s not Mystery Candidate X who no one’s ever heard of yet then it’s got to be someone else who’s already out there. And I can’t think of anyone who’d be better at beating Trump at his own media game.
The nom would be his if he wants it. Not sure he does though. At least not at this point. Who knows what terribly interesting places the country could go in the next 4 years?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@MARCION: I mean, REALLY? Stewart, Mr. Both Sides? If you want a Dem celeb, I’ll take Clooney.
MARCION
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Clooney would have the Trump Syndrome of not knowing WTF is going on which is harder to develop if you’ve spent the last 15 ish years as a political commentator
geg6
@MARCION:
No thanks. Can’t stand his smug schtick. Or his terminal both siderism.
geg6
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
This! Plus he, too, has a glamorous foreign wife. With a real college degree!
NobodySpecial
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Hell, I’ll take Tim McGraw before Stewart.
Tokyokie
If the Democrats want to nominate a Jewish comedian, then I’d prefer Al Franken. And I doubt he’s particularly keen on running.
Mary
@MARCION: I see your Jon Stewart and raise you an Oprah. White women looooooove Oprah.
MARCION
Hell I wonder if Colbert could pull off the trick of making RW voters think he’s conservative. How long would it take them to figure it out? Perhaps the Ironic Presidency is the logical next step after the Reality Show Presidency

“I’m getting a lot of comments from the leftists about, ‘Your crowd’s not going to be as big as our crowd,’” said Betty Blanco,….“I didn’t know it was a contest.””
The contest is called “majoritarian democracy”.
This is what it looks like when you don’t have the racist Electoral College making up for your lack of numbers.
Butch
I’ve gotten so tired of the Expeditions into the Heartland to find Real Americans who Voted For Trump stories that have been so prominent in all the media. Even PBS has gotten into the act. Maybe this will help put a stop to them.
randy khan
@oldster:
That was the best comment from a participant, by far.
john fremont
150 attended at the Capitol in Denver yesterday. What a change from last year when the Colo Springs fire marshall was blasted by the Trump campaign for turning people away. Yuge crowds! Unbelievable crowds!
Nora
The Times is wasting valuable real estate with a story saying that Trump fans like Trump. Yes, and the sun did in fact rise in the east this morning.

Sure you didn’t.
El Caganer
@MARCION: Fuck it, I’d go with Larry David – he does Bernie Sanders better than Bernie does.
Keith P.
Well, it is, and as it turns out, your dick *is* smaller.
NonStopRocka
By Trump’s estimation, over 40 million showed up! Huzzah!

I think MARCION is trying to assassinate DougJ over the Internet.

@Tokyokie:
Nitwit is such an old fashioned term, but I still love it. How many still know what a nit is? Well, I guess folks with kids in school probably do. A tiny thing. Comparable to the brain of a Dolt45 supporter. Dolt is another great old term for stupid.
We are so lucky, English has so many synonyms at hand, and we’re allowed to plug in a foreign word any time we want to, much to Dolt45’s chagrin.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Al Frankin, author, a famous story teller, and a great Senator. That’s my take on nominating a famous sho-biz celebrity. Not Jon Stewart, he can’t even spel John right.
SFAW
@El Caganer:
Yeah, but he’d lose the (RIGGED!) primary to Kate McKinnon.
