While we wait breathlessly for John’s next adventurous update…looks like we could use an open thread.
I had planned on a writing thread tomorrow, but it’s not going to happen. I’ll shoot for next Sunday.

I need to go for a nice long walk (training for Disneyworld), but G is on a conference call for school and the cats keep trying to open the closed office door.
I had to put Charlotte in the other room because she decided to tackle Keaton and they were thumping against the door.

Eying soggy and absurdly overgrown lawn, short-lived sunny period and mower that hasn’t started since November. Ugh.

@trollhattan: My brother McGyvered mine with a plastic grocery bag and a rag. Works fine now. :-D

Tree just came down on the house amid howling winds and quarter-sized hail. But they’ve lifted the tornado warning, so yippee?
Doesn’t look like much damage, but I’m not going outside yet to make sure.

So Ireland beat France in 6 nations rugby just now. Many sad Frenchmen walking around Dublin right now. In fact in this here restaurant there are at least 5 tables of sad, sad Frenchmen. The question is how many drunk happy Irishmen are going to be in my local, O’Shea’s? Many, many I think. Will I be able to hear the music? Don’t care!!

Let me just say that I’ve been getting lots of good writing done :)
And yay for Perez!

I posted this in the earlier thread but it’s good for an open thread
The packaging on this Trader Joe’s snack is subtly amazing.
The product is known as “Chicago Mix” (although caramel and cheddar sounds disgusting) and the graphic designer has a brilliant way to highlight the connection to Chicago (and it’s not what you will immediately think)
@HeleninEire:
And Scotland beat Wales for the first time in a decade. And if you do Netfilx over there you may enjoy “The Irish Pub” which takes a long look at the history and tradition of the pub in Eire.

@Elmo:
Yikes! I would definitely stay inside until the winds die down. Do people have basements in MD?
raven
@trollhattan: Clean the plug, drain the old gas and put fresh in.

@Major Major Major Major:
Why must you be so divisive? Don’t you know celebrating his win constitutes rubbing it in their faces.

Just had a terrible rain storm with hail! In February! Maybe the Russians do have a weather machine after all.
Will now resume preparations for my first backpacking trip of the season. Nights will be in the mid-20s. We just had an unseasonably warm week of beautiful springlike weather. But now that I’ll be spending 5 days outside, it’s back to winter. Timing. Off to the store for supplies!

It was 16C (60F) and sunny in my little corner of Canada this afternoon. Took the Bert for a longish walk and wore sneakers for the first time since December. Also, dying in the heat ;-)

@humboldtblue: I don’t get it. I see that the people are from ~100 years ago and that it’s a windy day. But I’m missing whatever that group of people is supposed to be saying about Chicago, cheddar cheese, or popcorn. I’ll presume the skyline is Chicago but I have no idea what the rest of the illustration is illustrating.
Elmo
@Mnemosyne: Yep. I haz one. Used to be fully finished until six successive floods in less than a year. Now it needs work.

I actually got writing done too, instead of just work on the code side. Ah well another week gives me more time to add to it.

@Ceci n est pas mon nym:
Maybe that the bag blends the Chicago flag in the design?
humboldtblue
@Ceci n est pas mon nym:
Here ya go, it’s the flag of the City of Chicago

@droog:
Droog nailed it

Writing related — I’m sitting in a Panera Bread in North Hollywood listening to three guys breaking down the story for their screenplay. I’m going to need to put on my headphones if I’m going to get any work done on my historical romance novel! ?
B in the D
@Mnemosyne: I call your Panera Bread in North Hollywood and raise you 30 degrees F, blowing wind, snow showers, and a half-empty bottle of Apothic Red in SE Michigan while trying to proofread my never quite finished nautical murdery mystery.
Oatler.
@B in the D: Pish posh, we all have our never quite finished nautical murdery mysteries…don’t we all?…please? Want to buy my erotic fishing novelette? No proofreading necessary, I know it’s perfect.
B in the D
@Oatler.: Fishing and sex? Together? Be still my… whatever.

Pre-Oscars rant:
I STILL THINK MAD MAX FURY ROAD SHOULD HAVE WON BEST DIRECTOR AND BEST PICTURE.
Also, I still hate the Oscars for failing to nominate TRON for Best Visual Effects. TWICE.

@Mnemosyne:
Did they get to the exploding penguins bit? If they hadn’t then that’s not my screenplay.

Just got back from Orlando from a nice little dining out with the Gen-X/Y Mensa members in the area.
Downtown Orlando has the worst drivers, especially when I’m there.
It’s also rife with Pokestops, so you better have unlimited data on your smartphone.
Personal note: I’m torn between the desire to go to Cuba for a vacation, or to go to Chicago in June. Cuba will involve getting approval from the gov’t (something about a license to go) so if there are any experts on the visa license please inform me what I should do.

@Mnemosyne: In July, I did 21,000 steps in one day at WDW. Hit 3 parks, too.
