Been trying all day to get to even one of Feinstein’s offices- always busy. I think they put them all on hold so they don’t have to hear that we don’t want her to vote yes on Sessions or any other T appointees.
Mnemosyne
@princess (now general) Leia:
If you have access to a fax machine, send a fax.
I actually don’t think there’s much danger of Feinstein voting for Sessions as long as she knows our opinion. But if we don’t tell her, she doesn’t know.

“I’m sorry but that mailbox is full” — grrrrrrr.
Please try again later – Oh, I will!

Also, too, I put Feinstein’s information on my Facebook yesterday and shared it with my action group, and I’ve seen it other places, so I think it’s gone viral. I honestly think the phones aren’t being picked up because we the people are flooding the phone system with our calls. Yay us!

Boussinesque
@Mnemosyne: that makes sense for me–friend had her number in their Facebook post this morning, and I got an email from PFAW with the same just now. Been getting sent straight to the full voicemail box every time I call, so I hope that means they’ve been properly inundated.
Major Major Major Major
@Mnemosyne: @Boussinesque: I don’t know anybody who’s gotten through. The working theory is indeed that she’s just too busy.

A bit OT, but may I ask, is this State Department exodus a BIG deal or not? NPR doesn’t have it on its front page last I looked. The Atlantic seems sort of meh….
princess (now general) Leia
From now on I will only refer to the Orange one as REPUBLICAN president Trump. They built that.
Mnemosyne
Also, as I was exhorting someone last night:
You know what the teabaggers spend their days doing? Calling their representatives. They call every single day regardless of whether their rep is a Democrat or a Republican. That’s how they make it look like they’re a majority, or at least a sizable enough minority that they have to be listened to.
We need to do the same. Flood the zone. Let our reps — both Democrats and Republicans — know what we want and expect from them.
You don’t have to be mean or rude. Since I am represented by Democrats, I most often call or fax them to express my support and ask them to stand firm rather than berating them. And that makes the staffers like you more, too, because the teabaggers call and berate them.

@West of the Rockies (been a while): Here are the opinions of a neocon and a realpolitik conservative, neither huge fans of Trump
and looking for that exchange I see another example of “This is fine”

Anyone who has a senator on the Judiciary Committee should call and urge them to ask for a second hearing on Sessions. ACLU says he advised on these Executive Orders, but they didn’t know about them so couldn’t ask him about them the first time.

@West of the Rockies (been a while): Can’t really tell. Swapping out management teams was likely going to happen at some point. Did they mass resign due to something they can see internally? Were they mass fired? Did they just see the writing on the wall and decide to do something that would draw attention? Could be any of these. Some are normal, some are not.
Major Major Major Major
@West of the Rockies (been a while): There’s a discussion with Adam about it in the comments downstairs.
The summary is, sort of? This is turnover from employees many of whom you’d usually expect to turn over with a new administration, except that it usually happens over the course of a year or two, not a week.
Neech
Just tried to call his DC, Winston-Salem, & Wilmington offices and they’re all busy or the inbox is full. I’d recommend sending a fax if you can. Gonna keep trying.
Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism
I got in at this number and left a message emphasizing that the Research Triangle area, with its high-paying jobs, wouldn’t exist without the quality education here and suggested that Devos would destroy that.
Mobile
Just left messages at Senator Warren’s and Brown’s office expressing my disappointment with their support of Ben Carson’s nomination. Also emailed Senator Warren the same. As an Alabama resident, I would never be able to forgive similar support for the Session’s nomination which I would consider a complete betrayal of their positions as leaders of the progressive party.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Thanks, Jim… so it is a big f’ing deal, but elements of the MSM are “both sides-ing” it.
AMinNC
I’ve been calling him at his DC office and Winston Salem office about this. Staffer in WS said that he had decided to support DeVos, contrary to rumors, and I politely told her a couple of reasons I thought that was a very bad idea. I think they have been getting an earful – keep it up!
TKinNC
@Neech: Leave a message for one of the underlings in Wilmington. The first guy’s mailbox is full but *812 got me to a voicemail with a little space.
Neech
@TKinNC: Thanks. Just tried all of the *81 extensions and all the mailboxes are full.
Major Major Major Major
@West of the Rockies (been a while): Not really. We don’t know if they left much faster than normal because they think Trump is gross, or if they were forced out, or what. It’s certainly not good, but it also might not be very very bad. The thread I linked above is helpful.
MGB
My Senators are Durbin and Duckworth. Can’t get through to either on the phone.
Mnemosyne
@MGB:
Fax if you can. Faxing is almost as good as a regular letter.
Another Scott
Just about every time we get a “call your representative now!” exhortation, I’m reminded of these full-mailbox issues. Calling may be great if you can actually speak to someone, but that seems to be a rare event, especially in the offices of people who don’t want to hear our opinions.
That’s another reason why I don’t feel bad about not calling. I’m going to be sending postcards regularly (as soon as I can get ahold of some! The USPS web page seems to be still undergoing maintenance – it logs me out everytime I try to go to a page to pick out something to buy…
Keep up the pressure and don’t get frustrated, callers. But think about other approaches (faxing, letters, cards, comments on their media pages, etc.), also too.
Cheers,
Scott.
Gin & Tonic
@Another Scott: The USPS also has a number of conveniently-located retail outlets.
James Powell
How about this from Pierce:
And let me say this about that: if any of the candidates for DNC chair wants to make him or herself real fuckin’ popular with the Democratic base right now, they’d be saying exactly what Pierce says and more.
Another Scott
@Gin & Tonic: If I can’t get through before Saturday, they’ll be seeing me!!!11
;-)
Cheers,
Scott.
James Powell
@Mnemosyne:
They also show up & vote. Every single time.

Just left a message with Burr. Calling Thom Shithands Tillis now.

Mom Says I'm Handsome
Maybe I’m leading a charmed life, but I reached Cory Gardner (R-CO)’s DC office on the first try. Told Ashley that I wanted the senator to know that I stood against Sessions, De Vos, Carson, and Perry, because they lack basic qualifications for the positions; and would she please pass those comments along to the senator. (Who, btw, is YOUNGER than me, and I’m a fucking spring chicken! Grrrr.)
Dolly Llama
Just tried. “I’m sorry, but that mailbox is full.”
Ben Cisco
As of 1634 hours, the mailbox is full, I repeat, the mailbox is full.
MaxUtil
The mailbox for comments on nominations is full, but other mailboxes are still taking messages. Press 2!
Ohio Mom
@Mom Says I’m Handsome: Don’t jinx yourself or you might end up behind the rest of us at the post office, buying postcards.

Senator Corker’s phone is ALWAYS busy and immediately disconnects – operator says this is not a sign phone is out of order, but that the lines are tied up. I’ve called him off and on since December
trnc
Apparently, that’s what happened on the NC office line. I was able to leave a message on the DC voice mail.

I am on a conference call with Ed Perlmutter, who isn’t my congressman (Colorado) but he used to be. Diane DeGette is my rep now. He just said that keep calling our representatives to let them know our concerns.

This may be a dead thread but these questions! People are freaked out by trump.
