Game 7 of the WS will keep me from having an anxiety attack about the election, especially here in IL where we have a Governor who makes Sauron look like a third-rate bad guy.
Wait. No it won’t.

Raw Story says the woman who is the 13 year-old in that Trump civil case is having a presser at 6pm. I have honestly not given much credence to this story…anyone have more info on this? Not a big fan of Raw Story.

So guys what are you in mood for the movie club selection for the weekend?
1. Science fiction
2. Espionage
3. Romance
dmsilev
Dr. Jill “Treebeard” Stein for President!
BGinCHI
@schrodinger’s cat: All three, directed by Tarkovsky.
dmsilev
@schrodinger’s cat: There’s got to be at least one science-fictional espionage film with a strong romance element.
BGinCHI
@dmsilev: She even spelled “Elvis” wrong.
Patricia Kayden
@Shell: Did MSNBC carry it? That would be the more interesting question since MSNBC is supposed to be the Left’s answer to Fox. Or so I’ve heard.
@schrodinger’s cat: Sci-fi or Romance. I recently watched Ex Machina which is a bit of a mixture between those two.
otmar
I always wondered whether the child rape story will explode before the election or not.
Especially considering yet another Bill tangent.

@PsiFighter37: Lisa Bloom is her attorney. Here’s a NY Daily News article.

@PsiFighter37: Snopes has a rundown of details of the lawsuit here. Informative, although Snopes has its own, um, quirks. As for the allegations, prepare to vomit. Vile stuff.

@PsiFighter37:
Raw Story had some tale up from a claimed witness on the 13 year old that talks about threats involving a 12 year old who disappeared to inspire silence.
To be honest, I have doubts about it – the alleged comments just didn’t sound like regular Trump bluster. Sounded more like a comic book or movie villain from an “I Spit on Your Grave” kind of B movie.
Boussinesque
@dmsilev: Would GATTACA qualify? =p
hueyplong
@Botsplainer: I share your skepticism but have to admit that I’m more and more seeing Trump as a B movie villain. He’s earning it.
dmsilev
@schrodinger’s cat: The ‘espionage’ part is thin, but Gattaca perhaps?

The press release is from Lisa Bloom, she wouldn’t be standing by a client whose story is fishy, she knows that shitgibbon is the most litigious person in the history of the world. She believes her client.

@schrodinger’s cat: romance in a far away country. Quiet. Peaceful. One where the voters can go to the polls without feeling surrounded by crazy people. Maybe Canada or someplace equally as romantic.

Interesting day. Frum says he has already voted for Clinton. And although he doesn’t make it explicit, the unmistakable import of this column is that Douthat is, too.

Its a celebration of Krishna’s birth. Though a prince, Krishna was brought up by cowherds, as a naughty child he would steal butter from pots hung up high. So to celebrate Krishna’s birthday in Mumbai and other places. pots with yogurt/butter are hung up high, teams make human pyramids to get to it and there is a cash prize if your group succeeds.

Probably because James Comey released a letter to Pigface Chaffetz saying that the FBI has started an investigation on the (alleged) victim, because he heard she had granite countertops in her kitchen, and that printouts of some of Hillary’s (or someone else’s) e-mails were on the counter.
Patricia Kayden
@burnspbesq: From your link:
Perhaps Douthat voted 3rd party. I can’t see that he would vote for Secretary Clinton since he believes that “grave evils” will result from her election. That wouldn’t make any sense (at least to me).

Random question: is there a winter holiday in India that falls around the same time as Christmas/Hanukkah? We’re trying to be neutral for our office holiday party, but to me “being neutral” means at least attempting to include a bit from everyone. I’m going to ask my coworker if he has a preference, but I don’t want to sound as 100 percent ignorant as I actually am.
(The coworker in question is originally Canadian, so I don’t know what kind of Northern abominations he would want to include from that side of his background. I guess we could throw a moose into the background of our Space Luau.)

well, if you’re doing the science fictiony thing for the movie review, a couple of suggestions…
some great films (imho) that have been forgotten…
Colussus: The Forbin Project
The Andromeda Strain (original)
Buckaroo Banzaii (which would be your nod to a love story, science fiction, espionage, comedy genres)… you could then have a debate on whether John Lithgow was overlooked for an Oscar for his performance in this film.

I like both SF and espionage, so I flipped a coin.
Espionage.
If we included TV movies and mini-series, my hands down choice would be “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,” starring Alec Guinness.
But tons of conventional movies to choose from, including Goldfinger, ultimate Bond
But if SF, “2001: A Space Odyssey” should be on the list. I’ll defend it against any who find it too slow and boring.

@Brachiator: I loved that! And the second installment, Smiley’s People was even better.

Progressives that aren’t otherwise hampered by a natural Cubs handicap need to be rooting for the Tribe tonight. It’s actually probably a non-trivial Ohio GOTV issue. I guarantee you do not want a 200,000 people in the Cleveland suburbs feeling bitter and depressed and hopeless on Tuesday, I think we know where those kind of people tend to wander. And with like a 15-3 disparity in the incorrect game 5 calls going against them, they’re going to be more open to messages about things being rigged too.
You can feel good about it as a progressive too. There’s the fact that the Cubs are basically a superteam with double the payroll now and more to come, while the Tribe is scrimping by squeaking into a small-market window of competitiveness that probably slams shut in 2 years. Also the Tribe is getting by on 1 good starting pitcher, missing 2&3 due to horrible luck, and also missing their best all-around player Brantley (who’s career is likely over, BTW.) Yes, there is the Red Sambo issue, but are they more or less likely to get that drunken tattoo removed after losing? Less. “Keep the Chief” is largely a revanchist movement and revanchist movements thrive on losing. Block C for the win tonight, or deal with president Trump next Wednesday, that’s the choice you are making.
D58826
@SFAW: Got your scandals mixed up. The Comey mess involves a 15 year old in NC that Weiner was sexting with. She has released a letter blasting Comey and saying that he has victimized her again.
The Bloom presser involves a then 13 year old who has filed a civil suit claiming that Trump raped her. Huffington has a long piece about why the media hasn’t reported on this story. And basically as long as she remains anonymous it makes it hard to verify her story. It could blow up like the recent Rolling Stone article.

Two more votes banked for our Madam President, though my son the comedian caused a bit of a kerfluffle when he walked into the polling place and loudly asked if “this was the line to vote for Trump”.
It was nice to see moms with their little girls, explaining about the election and (I assume) showing them the vote for the first woman likely to become president. These little girls will remember this day.

Bloom is a fucking idiot. Her grandstanding for publicity (still frowned on by ethical canon) exposed her client AND shattered some credibility.

I am so freaking tired of these FBI leaks. Why can’t the agency be shut down until next Wednesday morning? Leaking the name of the poor girl who was Weiner’s sexting target is just flat beyond the pale.
I still remember how angry I was back in 1994 that the WaPo waited until after the election to reveal some of Glendening’s shenanigans with the Prince George’s County police. I didn’t want Sauerbrey to win, either, but they could probably have released the info in August with little impact on the election. (IIRC it wasn’t illegal, just not the right thing to do.)

A little off-topic here, but bear with me: I have been reading Hillary’s e-mails on Wikileaks the past few days. And let me tell you – there is NOTHING there. Nothing. I am convinced not one of these slimy Republican bastards (Trump, Pence, et al) has read a single one of Hillary’s e-mails, because if they did, they would realize this phony “scandal” doesn’t amount to a popcorn fart. Here is an example. The next time your crazy conservative uncle starts ranting about what a horrible scandal this is (Worse than Watergate!)’ ask the piece of shit if he has read any of them. Even.
