EFGoldman and his lovely wife will be staying at the Doubletree in Bedford next weekend, and he suggested a meet-up on Saturday, November 5. Spousal Unit and I are free, any time in the afternoon / evening. Who wants to join us?
Suggestions for a venue also welcome — EFG was kind enough to suggest my ‘Chinese favorite,’ Su Chang’s, up in Peabody near the North Shore Mall. The food is great and very reasonably priced, and it’s quiet enough for conversation even on a Saturday night. But if there’s another good choice closer to Bedford/Burlington/Billerica, we’re open to suggestions!
eric
my daughter is in a play that day/night, so i will have to take a rain check until the next one…. :(

I have papers due basically all the time. and the weekends are my only time to do them. But keep me posted on the location and time of this meetup. I am very sorry I missed the last one. Maybe I can manage to run out to this one.
Malaclypse
Although I’m really more LGM than here, Su Chang’s is less than a mile from my house, and is indeed wonderful.
The Golux
These posts about meetups make me jealous. I know we have a passel of Juicers in the Nutmeg State; any interest?
the Conster, la Citoyenne
Would absolutely love to meet up – of course, that’s the same night I have Joey Alexander tickets for Scullers. We need another Boston area meet up after HRC’s victory.
Luther's 99 Problems
Are long-long-long-time lurkers welcome?
MomSense
That will be a big GOTV day for me but I’ll see what I can do.
JJ
@The Golux: I’m here in Nutmeg and would like to connect. Also, I may be on the North Shore next weekend. I’ll check in later in the week.
the Conster, la Citoyenne
@efgoldman:
What fun!!! Actually the friends I’m meeting up with on Saturday night for the show – their son is the writer and performer in the Shakespearean Jazz Show, which he gave birth to when he was at Emerson. I hope we get to meet up again before you two leave for DC!!!
Gin & Tonic
@JJ: Why is it the Nutmeg state if they don’t grow nutmeg there?
SiubhanDuinne
Are we going to have a World Series thread later?
To stay on topic here — wish I could join you all in Peabody, or wherever you end up next weekend. This is not the time of year to do a drive to New England, especially this year with poll watching/voter protection obligations nearly every day from now through the 8th. But those of you in the area who can go, should go. Mrs. efg is an absolute delight, and she usually makes sure efg tidies up pretty well before going out in public. J/K!!, efg :-)

There’s a Flatbread Pizza located in Bedford that would be great for a meet up. Or, Borders Cafe in Burlington.
SiubhanDuinne
@Gin & Tonic:
I was curious, too, so googled and found this. Interesting story(ies), which I had never heard.
Omnes Omnibus
@SiubhanDuinne:
So she lets him wander about in total disarray?
Mary G
Hillary gave a strong appearance. “Your guess is as good as mine what’s going on, so the FBI needs to put up the information.”
SiubhanDuinne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Heh. I realized after the edit window had expired that a clever lawyer would see right through my (unintentional) ambiguity!
SiubhanDuinne
@Mary G:
When did she say that? The media earlier were making much of the fact that she didn’t mention it at all in her Iowa (Cedar Rapids?) rally early this afternoon.
If you have a link or can point me to coverage, even better. Thanks!
Elliott
@AnneLaurie, are you on FB or twitter?
SiubhanDuinne
@efgoldman:
I have met you.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: Town names in RI are really weird. Confusion, Providence, Woonsocket….
ThresherK
@Mary G: Why in the everloving fck did they break into ordinary programming for this nothingburger of a scandal?
Gin & Tonic
@Omnes Omnibus: Usquepaugh, Quonochontaug….
Mayim
Mostly a lurker, but I might be able to ~ depends on graduate school workload ~ but I am so due for a Boston trip from the great backwoods of Maine ;-)
Since SiubhanDuinne is the only person I have met from here (we have ‘known’ each other from another on-line context for years), it would be nice to put some more faces to names….
redshirt
@Mayim: Where in Maine? Orono?
hovercraft
Please can we get a new open thread? Please.
Thank you for your consideration.

@SiubhanDuinne:
Here is a link to her statement from TPM.
SiubhanDuinne
@Mayim:
I have to tell you, you had me puzzled for a moment, as I didn’t recognize this particular nym. But I am pretty sure I know who you are. Cats, knitting, met in person at a mutual friend’s a couple of years ago?
ETA: And FB friends for several years, yes?
p.a.
Confusion, R I? We have a Carolina, and a Wyoming. Pascoag- the ag is silent. And typical New England religious names: Sin and Flesh Brook, Purgatory Chasm (I think every New England state has a Purgatory Chasm), and not far from my house, Breakneck Hill Rd.
SiubhanDuinne
@hovercraft:
Thank you. That’s about as solid a statement as she could reasonably deliver at this point.
Sure hope this does, indeed, turn out to be a nothingburger and that there will be a shiny new Trumpentoy for the media to play with in a day or two.
SiubhanDuinne
@hovercraft:
I’m hoping for a thread where I can be a Cubs fan. Like, for instance, a World Series Open Thread.
the Conster, la Citoyenne
@hovercraft:
Perfect. Just the right amount of WTF without whining like the babyman does about everything.
p.a.
@Gin & Tonic: Did you have to look up the spellings? I would have…

So Tweety is now fixated on the fact that she said the letter was sent to the republicans, why is she saying that when it was obviously sent to both sides. That’s a fact, why is she saying that. Is she trying to put the shiv into Comey? And since the Clintons were so happy with the result in July, and they didn’t complain about him, how can they now complain about him. Apparently he thinks that it’s all or nothing, if I like this thing you do, I must like everything you do, there can be no nuance. Fucking Tweety.
hovercraft
@SiubhanDuinne:
Exactly.
MoxieM
Lurkers? May we attend?
Lahke
I’m in. Don’t know anything about restaurants up there but am good with Chinese.
hovercraft
Tweety’s show keeps putting up the picture of Anthony Wiener, and then he says the republicans are going to make him Hillary’s running mate, and they are going to plaster his picture all over TV, and look there he is again. Someone needs to explain to him that he’s on his own show, and he has a say on what’s on his show. Again with the fucking “shot” blaming the republicans. Yes I’m sure the democrats leaked the letter. Wait it wasn’t even a leak Jason Chaffitz released it. She tried to deny that the investigation is connected to Wiener, NBC has reported it Madame Secretary, so stop denying it.
Thank God it’s over, I might have to kill my TV.

@the Conster, la Citoyenne: Who’s the babyman?
Amir Khalid
@Gin & Tonic:
Strangely enough, I’ve never been anywhere near Rhode Island, but I have heard of Quonochontaug and I know how to pronounce the name — from hearing it mentioned in an episode of The X-Files. It’s the town where Mulder’s family has a lakeside holiday home, in which his mother hid a mysterious alien weapon.

@MoxieM: my understanding is that lurkers are especially welcome to any juicer gathering.
JMG
Hey, I live in Lexington, and would be super happy to meet up with efgoldman and family. But Peabody is a little far. Could name some sites in Lex-Bed-Burlington area if you’re interested. Il Casale, an Italian place in Lex Center, isn’t too bad. Neither is Great Wall, decent but no better Chinese restaurant in Bedford. Plus for the latter, has spaces for groups.

Western hills. Almost on the route from Montreal to OOB ;-) A bit closer to Fryeburg than Augusta. Too many Trump and Poliquin signs :-( but somewhat balanced by living in a town that has just enough aging hippies to support a natural foods co-op and vegetarian restaurant (although that is as much the Seventh Day Adventists….).
Since it sounds from previous comments of yours that you aren’t too far from here, guessing you can figure out the town ;-) although I tend to not give my specific location on-line….
p.a.
@efgoldman: Purgatory Chasm, R.I. it’s not much to look at; like the state, it’s undersized.
Mayim
@SiubhanDuinne:
Yup.
Hoping you make it back up to New England soon ~ that visit was fun….
p.a.
@efgoldman: I may do the North Shore thing; unlike most RI’ers, I’m not agin’ a drive. I do, however, consider it a heinous crime to have to pay to park, as do most RI natives.
redshirt
@JMG: Borders in Burlington would be perfect. It’s big to handle any group and has awesome food.
JJ
@Gin & Tonic: Excellent question.
redshirt
@Mayim: Awesome! Western Maine represent! And yes, so many Trump signs. But I believe Hillary will win in most of our towns and in the CD2. The PPH had a great interactive map that showed new voter registrations by party. I couldn’t believe how blue some of the western towns were when I’d consider them blood red based on signs.

‘Fraid not. Given my temperament, I can either post stuff here, or I can do social media… if I don’t have FB/twitter accounts I don’t have to deal with temptation.
But you can reach me at annelaurie (dot) verizon (dot) net, usually within a few hours.

For that area, the tapas bar in downtown Woburn is unbeatable. Really phenomenal when I was in the area last year. Best tapas I ever had, by far.

Leave us know what the final location is (and I think Su Chang’s is a fine choice).

Shoot. Missed this by only a fort-night!!
Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions for our New England trip. We got very lucky that the foliage held on much later than usual, so we got early color in the North Shore, peak in NH and slightly-past-peak colors (rusty oranges) by the time we got up to VT. Downtown, we hit Beacon Hill, Fanuel Hall, Copley Square, Back Bay to the Common’s Garden, Esplanade and then hopped over to Cambridge for dinner. It was like 70’s and sunny. As I told my wife “This is NOT normal weather for late Oct in Boston.” My wife was completely enchanted with New England and now wants to move there. I would too but have a tough time seeing how we could afford to on only 1.25 incomes (my tennis coaching and music playing doesn’t bring in much on the revenue front) and from what I’ve seen NE isn’t great for renters. If anyone has suggestions on MA cities where rent isn’t super-high, I’m all ears. Forgot how much I loved the area.
The only downside of the trip was finding out that one of my oldest friends’ mom (who I always loved) is basically a Republican because she’s bought into the idea of those people being Lazy Moochers that she’s heard from Fox News for decades. And my friend, while exponentially more liberal, still has alot of ignorance on race issues, which came out when the topic of BlackLivesMatter and policing came up. Sigh.
MoxieM
Please not Lexington…anywhere but Lexington…I spent 25 years there, and got out alive!
