It’s natural human decency to offer the spare room to a bare acquaintance escaping (he tells you) a dangerous stalker, but after months of bearing with his deficiencies as a house guest — not to mention the extremely noisy and often unsavory ‘friends’ he invites over without so much as a by-your-leave — one might grow tired of the disruptions…
WikiLeaks says the "state" that severed Assange's internet link was Ecuador, his host at its London embassy. https://t.co/uZq7xTzp6z

The kerfuffle gave the social-media snarkers a happy interlude, though…

I wonder if Assange can get a different state actor to unplug his router, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

i'd say we're one close Utah poll away from Trump/Assange/inf0w@rs all saying McMullin is evidence of Obama's CIA meddling in the election.

though I don't think Ecuador changing the embassy WiFi password counts as a 'cyberattack'

And speaking of untrustworthy individuals, Snopes.com has a nicely comprehensive report on “video hoax artist” James O’Keefe’s “Project Veritas’ Election 2016 ‘Rigging’ Videos“. (A coda below the fold at the end of the late-night shift seems like quite as much attention as JOKeefe deserves.)

Shouldn’t O’Keefe still be in jail? I mean, what’s the point of enduring all the bullshitty RW cracks about is libs denying our opponent’s liberty if we don’t actually do it?
Snarking aside, I think he has passed back into fringe land. The “sex boat” attempt, and the bumbling phone repair bug thing, have made him a laughingstock with the semi-respectable press.
Oh, and, hello overnight BJers from Prague, where I guess the FBI made some news just recently! (I’m simply vacationing here, honest)
opiejeanne
@RaflW: O’Keefe’s latest escapade caused at least one guy to quit, Bob Creamer, because he didn’t want to be a further distraction for the HRC campaign. There may be a second person who quit.

If the NSA and CIA have done their homework, they should have several people at hand who can offer Assange pre-hacked vodaphone 4G cards. Assange may be desperate enough to take one them.

@RaflW: It’s pretty certain he’ll end up back in jail. And it won’t even be over his videos, it will be for something like embezzlement.

I almost ran out of gas in France once. Is that a violation of my first amendment rights?

@Ceci n’est pas mon nym: Kidding aside, I’ve heard great things about Prague for years. Thought about going there once or twice when in nearby areas in Germany (Leipzig), but the side trip didn’t fit.
Betty Cracker
Thank you, Ecuador, for at least getting the notion that there is an ongoing attempt to interfere with the U.S. election out there. That rather important fact seems to have escaped our Beltway press as they mine for sensational bits in the stolen email cache.
@different-church-lady: Yep, that sounds about right. Or maybe sexual assault on an intern.

I wish this post wasn’t being buried by the ones above. This is a big deal.

I wonder how quickly they can get this guy to roll, or if they have materials seized with him that connect him directly to the FSB and/or WikiLeaks and/or the Trump campaign.

Ha. Pegged Ecuador yesterday as the “state” that grounded Julian from playing on line. Between this and facilitating his questioning by the Swedes last month, seems pretty clear they’re tired of the deadbeat on their couch.

I am still trying to figure out how child molestation in Sweden is an issue for US law. Since when do the Sweds carry water for the US? It sounds like Trump’s razor applies to Assange too, he’s enough of an idiot to convince himself the US controls the world and that somehow means he’s a US citizen.
Since Obama’s been a roll perhaps he should offer to pardon Assange and then say “oh that’s right, the rape happen in Sweden, not the US, so I can’t”

Since this is an open thread, and I already wrote my swan song to y’all, I thought I should post a quick review of Croakachella 2. ( http://radio.com/2016/05/09/desert-trip-adds-second-weekend-to-line-up/ )
People that go to watch Bob Dylan play are already starting off on the wrong foot. Close your eyes and listen to the tunes, hell say and play what he wants you to know. He didn’t talk to the audience, which ain’t no big deal, he’s been a crotchety old man for fifty years anyway. He and his band played their asses off for us on Friday night. Nice mix of tunes. Take away; after all these years Bob and I still don’t give a fuck what the other one thinks of me. Go learn to be your own cool.
The Rolling Stones on the other hand continue to be under-rated. Awesome play list, usual upstaging between Keith and Mick. Mick has lost half a step maybe, but none of his moves, and Keith was very instructional in delineating the difference between R&B and Rock and Roll, for those of us who don’t know everything just yet. It was just a lot of fun watching them and really nice to hear the music unfiltered by the mixers.
Neil Young absolutely shredded the guitar, and his jam’s with Willie’s son Lucas were mind fucking blowing man. It was a wall of sound on his rock songs and just a pleasure beyond measure on his country stuff. He’s been my favorite guitarist since the early seventies so I’m to biased to stack him up against the other bands. All I can say there, was that anyone of them were worth the price of admission, so six out of one of the next best bargains I’ve ever had.
Paul McCartney came out, and to be honest, if you’ve never heard Helter Skelter live and unfiltered, you haven’t heard Helter Skelter. There’s a reason why the Beatles turned the music industry upside down. My heart goes out to him, he’s lost a lot and still carries on. Maybe I’m Amazed is still an excellent song for stealing a kiss from your girl. Works every time for me anyway.
-The Who played some really under=rated music off of Quadrophenia, which game out at the time quadrophonic sound made it to the house. Pete played and sang his ass off. Maybe the croaking meme set him off, who knows? Whatever it wasn’t an old man Sunday night. Roger didn’t miss a note one with the vocals, they were dead on to memory.
Roger Waters’ played some fantastic tunes like Meddle and Set The Controls For the Heart of the Sun for the really old peeps, and of course stuff off of the Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall. The lights, lasers and propping were just so geared to the tunes, you can figure it all out in your head. All of this unfolded under a full moon above the stage. An airplane circle the event with the counterpoints to the previous week’s Palestinian/Israeli boycott. In short a typical Rock and Roll show if Abbie shows up and gets a hold of a mic.
Anyway, this has gone on to long. The kids really are alright. Spent three days in tent camping with a bunch of them and they were just a real pleasure to talk to and listen to. Monday morning some all nighters woke me up and I yelled at them to get off of my lawn to my everlasting regret. Deepest apologies to the Canadian couple especially. I ain’t worth a damn until coffee, so next time bring a cuppa.
What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?
@Betty Cracker: Not sure they’re doing this for principled reasons. They see the writing on the wall and don’t want to piss off the future POTUS any more than they already have.
What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us?
I read yesterday that the Trump organization is still running Windows 2003, which they stopped issuing security patches for years ago, and so would be ridiculously easy to hack. In fact, someone got access to intern resumes from the network, which considering those have personally identifying info, might be something they’d want to keep reasonably secure. So…I sort of wonder if there will be a Trump org email dump at some point.

Thanks for the Snopes link for O’Keefe’s latest brainchild–an acquaintance from high school has been posting all that project veritas stuff unironically, and I’ve been having to resist the urge to go all “who the hell still thinks James O’Keefe has any credibility whatsoever?!” all over his feed.

@seaboogie: …smells like Victory!
@Enhanced Voting Techniques: My understanding is that he’s worried about extradition. Whether or not that’s a legitimate concern, I’ll leave to the Swedish and US legal systems to determine.

I used to support Assange, but I agree that for him to try to influence the outcome of an election in a country where he does not hold citizenship is a step too far.
