If you get a chance to see Chick Corea’s Electric Band on the current tour….do it! just wow.

Gin & Tonic
@eric: Apparently “current tour” = The Blue Note, and no place else. Although I saw plenty of posters for his appearance in Kyiv when I was there in August – unfortunately he was appearing after I already left.

Amazon prime members can download free an ebook “single” (it’s chapter length) from Jon Ronson called the Elephant in the Room about the Trump/Alex Jones/ Roger Stone connection. He knows Jones personally. It’s worth a read. If you’re not a prime member it’s only like $2.
Apologies if it’s been posted before, just checking in occasionally these days.

I’m going to put in another plug for my friend Catherine John’s new album Fandango Bragh. It’s a fusion of traditional Mexican and Irish music. I went to the album release party on Friday night, where eight of the thirteen musicians on the album performed. I don’t know how the physical CD will be distributed, they were available last night and at a few other events. The link above is to Bandcamp, where you can sample the tracks and download the whole album.
I’ve been listening to The Staves and the Luke Cage soundtrack on Spotify.
I am also plotting my novel for National Novel Writing Month, which is every November. My novel this year was inspired by Joss Whedon’s appearance on a local radio show, about how people are always asking him “write this story”. I realized if I had a story I wanted to read, I should write it my own damn self.
So my novel is about a 50 year old perimenopausal woman who gets superpowers – she can read minds and shoot out her hot flashes as a weapon. It’s called The Hot Flash. Tonally, I’m expecting it to be Christopher Moore-ish – funny with some real tragedy and sadness. I’m more excited about this novel than any of my previous NaNoWriMo novels.

@maurinsky: Cool. I’m still trying to figure the McGuffin for mine. I’m trying a YA novel this time. Tentatively, it’s about a group of teens who are occasionally capable of superpowers but they don’t know what the trigger is to get their superpowers to manifest, so they have a number of embarrassing failures and equally embarrassing successes before they get a handle on it.
@maurinsky: @Original Lee: We need to start a BJ writers’ group already. More than happy to organize. Follow my nym and drop a comment if interested. I have some others’ contact info already.

Super new band I’m crushing is Moon Hooch. Crazy improvisational jazz EMD goodness.
2 saxophones and drums. Amazing circular breathing for sustained sound. Modifications on the saxamaphones to amplify the tones.
If you have a chance, check em out.
Also viewable on the npr tiny desk series.
And for Olds who still punk it’s X’s 40th anniversary tour.

Saw Lizzo at Bonnaroo, about 11 PM. Man, did I want to see more of that after it was over. Best set of that day, I thought. She commands the room.
