There’s at least one Republican had a happy evening…
Hitting on married women? Condoning assault? Such vile degradations demean our wives and daughters and corrupt America's face to the world.

Oh, yes, I’m sure he is very disappointed in his party’s nominee, and saddened that the party of Lincoln has been reduced to such dire straits. But on the other hand, there’s a spark in his cybernetic heart where he hugs the thought And you guys dumped on ME for being a yuuuge loser!…
What’s on the agenda today, apart from popcorn for everybody?

I just asked a Trump campaign official if it were even possible for Trump to resign. "As far as I know, we are stuck with him," he told me.

31 Days of October Surprise. Trick or Trump!

The best part about the statement is that Trump claims that he’s not the same person he was 10 years ago. Cue the 10, 20, 30 woman who are lining up to tell their stories from 5 years ago or less.

Just don’t forget that we’re talking about sexual assault here. And that’s not something that happens just once, boo hoo– it’s part of Trump’s behavioral repertoire.

“A” surprise a day? I beg to differ!
Remember – Trump reconfirms that he still believes in the guilt of the Central Park Five (who have been PROVEN innocent), Trump claims that Mexicans are pouring across the border to vote in our election and the Border Patrol is ordered to stand down and allow them in, AND the Trump “P***y” video is released — all happened on Friday!
(And talk about a triple-play – Blacks, Hispanics and women, three groups where Trump is doing poorly and where he has to improve his standing if he wants to have any hope of winning the election – and he offends all three groups in one day!)

I hadn’t heard anything about this, didn’t watch the late night news or anything. Woke up, checked the Internet. Wow. On the podcast of a local talk show, the hosts try to dismiss this a Trump just being a horn dog, talking the way that men talk. Even a woman host says that women don’t want to hear men talk like this, but agrees that it is just locker room banter. Not a big deal. And Trump could defend against this by bringing up Bill Clinton’s behavior.
But this was before Trump made his official apology.
It’s going to be an interesting pre debate weekend.

How does this affect tomorrow’s debate? It seems to me that Trump is now in a badly weakened position. Questions are going to be asked about his personal character, which this revelation has made very germane and topical.

@Brachiator: Most women who hear the audio are going to look back on their life – long or short – and think about all the times they’ve been leered at, groped and made to feel unsafe because some horndog like Trump couldn’t control himself. It’s not fun for women when they have to wonder if today’s the day this guy is going to corner me and grab my pussy. The greatest part of being an old is not having to worry about that, not being young and nubile anymore. You’re not complimenting me if your words or actions put me in fear because “men will be men.”
Trump’s “statement” – even he doesn’t call it an apology – merely promises he’s going to really get down in the dirt. Nobody needs to throw him a shovel, because he’s got all of them with him in the hole, and he’ll be damned if anyone tries to make him stop digging.

Good question. It took the Trump campaign twelve hours to produce the ‘apology’ video on which Trump just barely has himself under control. I very much doubt Trump managed filming that video on the first take.
On Sunday he’s gonna have to respond live and on national TV. I simply can’t see that the moderators will suppress all questions to the tape. And if Trump can’t suppress being Trump, we might see panicky defections of down-ballot GOP candidates setting in before that townhall meeting has ended.

@SRW1: They’re certainly going to have a large audience. You have to hand it to Trump. We’re no longer watching a horse race but a soap opera about an extended family that is veering into dangerously dysfunctional. Who could have ever believed that anyone could make the previous 16 years seem like a stroll through perfect sanity.
Ceci n'est pas mon nym
I forced myself to get through the video, but it was the part after they came out of the bus that creeped me out somehow. Somebody in a previous thread pointed out the combination of comments insides the bus and then Billy Bush physically pushing Trump to hug the host/interviewer/whatever she was. It appears to be trying to initiate a little predation, like it’s part of their well-established pack hunting behavior.
I’m also picking something else up in that little interaction, that Billy Bush is a hyena, that he gets a shot at the ones that Trump rejects or doesn’t succeed at.
Then inside the studio when she says “I should be between you” and positions herself there… what is bugging me? I think she’s definitely playing into the locker-room dynamic. She doesn’t know the words they were saying, but she’s been around long enough to know they were saying something, and she probably picked up something from the weird hugging scene in the parking lot.
Brrr… this stuff is probably going on in every workplace, but I’ve lived my life blissfully unaware of most of it, except on the occasions a woman I love or who trusts me clues me in. “Blissfully” is the wrong word. I’m not happy about the general rape-y culture and what Trump’s level of support says about it.

After this is over, will there be any discussion about how Wikileaks has turned into or always was The Drudge Report?
I was never a big fan of the liberaltarians because they don’t give a rat’s ass about civil rights or economic issues, but this merits some analysis. Will there be some explanation forthcoming on why Wikileaks has spent the last 12 months exclusively focused on beating the Democratic Party? If they’re political hacks that’s fine- they have a right to devote all their time and energy to beating the She-devil, but let’s be clear about objectives here.

@germy:
I think Trump could push this way in a proper debate. Clinton would still be ready and make him look bad.
Sunday is town hall style. Audience members are going to be asking half of the questions. I expect by the end of the night, there will be a sea of dropped jaws. Trump likely will run over the tops of the two moderators and the citizen-questioneers, proudly flying his freak flag. He’s going to be horrible.

Pu$$ygate is good, but I think Pussghazi is better.

@TS:
Oh hell yeah. She appears with ’em, shakes Trump’s hand with one hand warmly clasping it with the other with a lovely smile…
fastidiously removes the gloves without a word and drops them on the floor like a used condom, and never speaks of them again.
I would pay to see that :)
Here’s another thing we’re not seeing much discussion of: the Village has known this all along. Do you really think they didn’t know? Do you seriously, for a moment believe this isn’t the Villager version of the famous Buddy Rich bus tapes, passed around for the amusement of insiders?
They have known about this the whole time and still tried to make Donald President. It’s not even about control: about having dirt on the guy to forestall disastrous actions. They didn’t CARE about disastrous actions (who could have known?) It’s just about being an insider and always was and always will be. The looks on their faces say that they all know and always did and now they’re trapped, denying it, and faced with the prospect that Trump will say ‘hypocrites, they all act just like that and I’ve seen much worse’… and be believed.
Because they do, surely. It’s much like the pedophilia scandals in British government (if not literally like, see some of the lawsuits underway).
The Village knew the whole time. Villago delenda est. This is what happened to us all: our institutions all rotted happily together, and this is what you get. What about Roger Ailes? They all do it. They’re all monsters of privilege.

@geg6:
I missed it but my kids said that NPR spent more time on the emails and speech excerpts than Trump groping this morning.

@NotMax:
That’s exactly what I said to my wife. Monk style.

@debbie: I challenge Reed and the other notevangelicals to read Trump’s words out loud in front of an audience if they don’t think it’s such a big deal.

@Kay:
The reason is that Wikileaks is wholly owned by Russian intelligence. This is known. People have been talking about this for the past year.

Trump won’t throw a punch or anything at Hillary. His hands are little, he’s a chickenshit unless he’s got all the circumstances under his control, plus of course the Secret Service, and Hillary can defend herself. But I can’t help thinking that Huma Abedin, standing off stage, might sort of wish he’d try. She has a ton of justifiable anger issues and if I were her, reducing Trump to a mewling puddle (or a smoking cinder if she uses her laser eyes) would be a satisfying start to resolving them. Well, anyway, it’s a film I’d pay to watch.

This. And lots of these kind of statements and behavior, if not this particular interview, were well-known about Trump before he even entered the race. ‘Moral values’ aren’t a Republican principle, they’re a rhetorical weapon Repukes selectively use against people they don’t like.

This meltdown is fun but if we don’t flip the House as a result, no laws will be passed and the thugs will ride their obstructionism and a candidate such as Kasich into the White House in 2020.
So it comes down to turnout on their side being sufficiently depressed.

@debbie: Ralph Reed is an opportunist full stop. He jumped on the evangelical bandwagon during the gops early “silent moral majority” push to pickup “christians, and other angry white voters”. He found a way to personally
capitalizeswindle a bunch of believers so he set himself up as one of their “leaders”.PIGL
@Tokyokie: they hate and fear women, he’s a rapey fratboy. Lots in common, plus they figure he’ll cement their control over women’s bodies and sexuality. Of course they support him.

@Anne Laurie: You’re Clan Chattan, then?

@Shalimar: Exactly. When guys like El Rushbo and Bill Bennet “Mr. Book of Virtues” used to go on and on about how “Character matters” back when Clinton was in the White House and how he should step down for the dignity of the office. What a bunch of phonies.
