My bad for not posting this earlier, but some of you in the area might still be able to make it to Salem tonight. And there’s another event on Saturday afternoon:
My name is Craig McMahon, I’m an organizer for the NH Democratic Party, and my office is at 15 Ermer Rd in Salem, NH- about 25min from Haverhill MA, and just off Rt93’s exit 3.
Tonight we’re having a debate watch party featuring none other than Wendy Davis, who will be giving a talk prior to the debate beginning. There’s plenty of room and all are welcome!
We’ll be doing some phonebanking starting at 5:30pm, party will get started around 7:30pm, Wendy will speak around 8pm, and then the debate begins at 9. While it isn’t mandatory to phonebank in order to attend, we’ll be calling Democrats to encourage them to volunteer for GOTV, so they tend to be pretty friendly calls.
In addition, Congressman Joe Kennedy will be at our office at 2:45pm this Saturday to launch a canvass session. Some people prefer to canvass around 10am, then listen to the talk; others will listen to the talk, then canvass.
We have out-of-state organizers whose job it is to recruit Mass volunteers, with the state broken up into geographic regions–if anyone is interested in volunteering, please have them email me at this address: [email protected]. I’ll get their contact to the appropriate out-of-state organizer, who will coordinate with them on future events.
Cheers

I sent the info to a friend. Have fun tonight!

Speaking of the debate, I assume there will be an open thread for it tonight? The person who usually hosts our debate-watching parties is on jury duty this week, so our group has been scattered to the winds for tonight.
Anne Laurie
@Mnemosyne: I plan to put up an Open Debate thread tonight, and I’m sure some of the other front pagers will be on it as well.
Mnemosyne
@Anne Laurie:
Great, thanks! I’m hoping Nice Dad Tim Kaine will be able to eviscerate Pence without his smile slipping for even a moment.

Congrats to @UW Prof. Thouless for work to explain stunningly strange behaviors of states of matter. Theory doesn’t explain Trump though.

Maybe Im wrong, but it seems we haven’t heard from the esteemed Betty Cracker lately.

I have my hands full in Maine’s CD2 this time around but canvassing in NH was fun in ’12. Saving the free world while viewing the foliage. Win win.

@Shell: I think she is on vacation.
Mike J
@Shell: She’s on a houseboat somewhere in FL.
SiubhanDuinne, liberal mob enforcer bitch
@Shell:
She’s on vacation this week. At least, I hope so. She said she and Mr. Cracker were planning to rent a houseboat and explore the rivers and wetlands of north Florida — but the looming hurricane may have altered those plans. Still, she’s off line this week AFAIK.

Hah. I just saw a Facebook post from a friend of a friend saying their 93 year old, lifelong Republican grandmother voted for Hillary Clinton via absentee ballot. Yay grandma.
Baud
@germy: Heh. Go Kaine!
@Hal: Nice. Hope there are many more stories like that.
Mnemosyne
Since we seem to be all alone in here, I wonder if Pence is going to try to pursue the “clemency” attack against Kaine. It’s pretty stupid to argue that it’s bad to move someone from death row to life without parole, but that’s probably why Pence will try to pursue it.
ETA: And of course more folks showed up while I was typing. ?

@Mnemosyne: Yeah, I stopped trying to figure out GOP strategy a while ago. It works for them with their base, I’ll give them that.

I think it’s quaint that the AP laid off all its proofreaders and editors. I copied and pasted their text without doing their job for them.

@Baud: Red state, but I still want to drive up the score! Funny thing is, all of the little old ladies in her exercise class seem to agree.
Baud
@eclare: Me too. I would be over the moon if this ended up a 60-40 win, but I think that’s unlikely.

I might catch a little of the debate tonight, but it’s all academic for me now. I voted today. Early voting started Sept. 29 in Chicago. I figured I should just go ahead and do it. I already knew who I was voting for, so why wait until next month?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
you figure when she became a Republican, that included people like Ike, and Strom Thurmond was still a Democrat.
Mark Warner was just on my TeeVee, barely having time to make the Jim Webb case that “both parties” have forgotten the working class. Isn’t he a cable TV millionaire? Tim Kaine talks about the union shop his father ran.

I just saw a FB blurb about Jimmy Carter on Hillary. Some Berniebot created it out of thin air two months ago and my fool friend didn’t even run it by Snopes. (I think she’s auditioning for a job as Rush Limbaugh’s fact-checker.)

At this point, I think the only thing that would stop me from voting for Hillary would be if this happened.

A new national Reuters’ Poll has Hillary up 13%! Is this poll reputable? if so, Trump is in a real spiral.

OT:
Some bozos ripped my roadside mailbox from the post and the pulled the metal post, concrete base and all, from the ground.
No proof, but lean to blaming rambunctious kids, as there is a school bus stop maybe 20 feet away. Not caused by a vehicle. Wrong type of damage and no tire marks or ruts in the ground, which was soft from rain. Can pinpoint a time frame of between 8:30 p.m. Sunday (when took trash container to street) and 9:30 a.m. Monday (when landlady called to tell me about it).
Everything now back in place and mailbox firmly reattached, although its door is little worse for wear. Only evident when standing right next to it, and can live with that.
eclare
@NotMax: That sounds like some effort. Glad everything is pretty much restored.
Joyce Harmon
Andrea Mitchell just said “Mike Pence is very smart.”
Posted without comment..,
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Joyce Harmon: a new twist on that old line about a stupid person’s idea of a smart person. In my car I caught Chuck Todd saying he was looking forward to commenting on the debate tonight with Tom Brokaw, so MSNBC will be lousy with the stupid and the self satisfied tonight, with the background music of Brian Williams trying ever so hard to write the first draft of history with every banal observation.
MomSense
@Joyce Harmon:
I just heard that. Is she talking about the same Mike Pence?
Steeplejack (tablet)
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
C-SPAN, here I come!
Patricia Kayden
@Joyce Harmon: To Andrea Mitchell, Mike Pence may be the smartest man alive. Who knows?
I hope Kaine brings up Pence’s rampant homophobia tonight since if God Forbid Trump wins, it will be Pence actually running the show.
JMG
@Joyce Harmon: He’s about as smart as she is, so I think her comment was fair.
Lizzy L
I spent part of today phone banking from home for Hillary — calling Illinois, since I lived in Chicago, a long time ago. Got lots of canned messages, but the few actual human beings I did reach were voting for Hillary.
I really like Tim Kaine, but I’m not sure I can stand to listen to Mike Pence for more than about 30 seconds — he completely creeps me out. Slimy christianist b****d. I’ll check in to the Debate thread, y’all can fill me in.
piratedan
@Joyce Harmon: well, Andrea Mitchell married Mr. Greenspan, so I think her judgement on such esoteric matters is quite suspect.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Patricia Kayden: I’m hoping he can tie in defunding PP with Trump’s comments about women needing to be punished for abortions.
ETA: @Lizzy L: I’ll be checking here and the Guardian liveblog, a few other feeds. Any good clips will get played ad nauseum, I don’t have to watch Pence try to get righteous about emails and the Clinton Foundation.
Lizzy L
@Joyce Harmon: She must be thinking of a different Mike Pence. The one running with Trump is dumber than dirt. Bless his heart.

@Lizzy L: He can’t help how stupid he is, bless his heart. Perfect.

Williams coming on board has lowered the general pitch of MSNBC by, minimally, 25 semitones. What skill he may possess lies in reading aloud, not commenting. Plus he seems positively obsessed with extensively announcing commercial breaks and what time it is.
Brokaw passed his sell-by date many years ago and is so much background noise.
JMG
Speaking of basketball, the great, great Jerry West said, “being behind is what makes you tired.” Pence goes in knowing he’s behind. That’s a recipe for pressing and unforced errors for anybody.

OT but I mentioned earlier that I suspected at least one of my RW relatives had stayed up late/gotten up early to hear the DEVASTATING Wikileaks “Whitey Tape” on Clinton…
…neither one is denying it.
Oh also I learned today that WJC saying Obamacare is convoluted or whatever >= everyone Trump has ever defrauded (to include 330 million American taxpayers, btw). How about that? Thanks a lot Bill, we were just about to make some hay over Trump’s slush fund, not paying taxes for two decades, 4,000 lawsuits, etc and then you had to go say Obamacare wasn’t perfect.
Jeffro
@MomSense:
I think she means “my Kaep-enz”, her nickname for Colin Kaepernick. Amazing that she would vouch for him in public but good on you, Andrea!!

Not this time. That leaves the post (and concrete footing) upright or close to it, and smashes in the side of the box so that it requires replacement. Also rare for only one mailbox on the street to be so affected.

It’s the media’a favorite game: “Let’s You and Him Fight.”
Roger Moore
@Baud:
Because they really, really want to believe.
JMG
@Roger Moore: They perceive their own lives as shit (not always true). They prefer to imagine that it’s not their own specific problem, but because they live in a dystopia. If Trump were to be elected, these people’s lives won’t change a whit. They’ll become even angrier and more dangerous.
Jeffro
@Mnemosyne:
Oh for sure. My dad’s telling me it’s about all they’re doing over on Fox…just running the comment over and over, asking different talking heads their opinion about how damaging it will be, etc etc.
I must be getting old, I remember when running fraudulent businesses, lying constantly, and slandering vets was damaging.

Kevin Drum said yesterday that Brokaw just announced he has the same cancer Kevin does, so expect a lot of premature declarations of sainthood on NBC and MSNBC. I’m sorry for him but it’s not going to excuse whatever potential bullshit he might come up with.
Lizzy L
@JMG:
Except that the value of their money, if they have anything in the market, will tank, because if Trump is elected (he won’t be) the stock market will nosedive, and the value of their home, if they own one, will drop, and if they have medical coverage (thanks, Obama!) they may lose it — but it’s not going to happen, because Hillary is going to win. And Tim Kaine is going to SHRED Mike Pence tonight. Smilin’ while he does it.

@Lizzy L: You’re right about what would happen economically if Trump wins. So he’d be forced to go full ethnic cleansing mode to give his backers some satisfaction. Hey, I may be living in my car, but at least that Hispanic family got deported from their home.
Matt McIrvin
@Mnemosyne: Third-partyists and non-voters dearly love quoting that Simpsons clip as proof that everyone but them is stupid, and I’ve come to hate it more and more every year.
Iowa Old Lady
@Mnemosyne: Especially since Kaine can come back with the fact that Pence won’t pardon a man proven innocent. Also didn’t Hamilton set an early example by defending some British? If a guy who helped write the constitution can do that, I think we know what counts as the American way.
shomi
Black man with a gun pulled over. Nobody killed. Where are the BOOMING headlines? Where is the Cole rant about how there are too many black men with guns being pulled over and not killed. This is an outrage!
Steeplejack (tablet)
Glad to have Orioles-Blue Jays as a safety valve tonight. I can watch the debates only in bits and pieces, lest I have a rageaholic meltdown, and baseball is easy to keep up with in the gaps.
Mnemosyne
@Iowa Old Lady:
The first one was actually John Adams, who successfully defended the British soldiers who killed people in the Boston Massacre.
But Hamilton also gained some enemies by fighting in court to prevent Loyalists from having their property seized after the war and insisting that people whose property had been seized or damaged had to be compensated.
This particular stance really stuck in the craw of the Southerners because Hamilton just as staunchly refused to demand compensation from the British for slaves who had defected to the British side, and blocked those same demands when he was Treasury Secretary.

@shomi: Your trolling is usually pretty dumb but harmless. But this is a piece of shit comment. Congrats on stepping your game up, I guess.

My 13 year old just asked if I have a pocket knife she can borrow. I asked what for, she said she wants it in case a clown jumps out at her. So that just happened.
I didn’t think we’d had any sightings here in Jersey, did I miss something?
Mnemosyne
@Matt McIrvin:
Well, the point of the episode is that the two politicians have been taken over by aliens. Clinton and Dole actually agree to put their differences aside to fight the alien menace, except that Homer accidentally kills them.

@Corner Stone:
Just be glad you don’t have to watch her endless campaign ads on your tv news. I’m coming to hate her personally, as opposed to just despising her every political tactic.
Mnemosyne
@Anne Laurie:
It’s retrospectively frustrating that Adams and Hamilton decided to hate each other, because politically they agreed on so much. Both abolitionists, both strong believers in the law, both staunch supporters of the new government, both a little suspicious of the French revolutionaries (who were the targets of the Alien & Sedition Acts), etc. So many lost opportunities due to a personal feud.
Among other things, imagine how different history could have been if Adams had sent French-speaking, Talleyrand BFF Hamilton as part of the negotiating team in what ended up as the XYZ Affair (fiasco).
