I know you said you were putting up a Trump thread if you could find the video feed, but I for one am not going to do anything to dim this contact high from that barn burner of a rally. Trump and Balloon-Juice will have to carry on without me.
167.
Keith G
Well that was a first.
A US president gives the person who will get the nomination to replace him an affectionate kiss on the cheek.
@JPL: I was thinking the same thing. This rally was full of positive energy, laughter, facts, compliments, etc, whereas a Trump rally is filled with hate, fearmongering, paranoia, lies, etc.
To say there’s no difference between the two sides in this election is to admit you’re completely partisan.

@Adam L Silverman: i’ve been saying the same thing to conservative friends for the past 7 or so years. Funny thing, my late uncle, a man who is among the those I most respect, immediately saw the talent and promise in Obama. Then again, he survived 25 missions over Japan and worked in the early space program, so maybe he didn’t suffer from the bedwetting insecurity that seems to affect a lot of white males from the generations that followed him. That insecurity is going to be the death of us, but maybe we’ll luck out better than England, where it threatens to turn a proud country into a nasty little rump state thanks to buffoons like Johnson and Farage, who can’t even take responsibility for their “victory.” Thank God we had Obama to step up when it mattered here. Kudos to HRC, too, for not backing down. This appearance is a nice coda for the end of that ridiculous email non-scandal.

Factoid: I was privy to a conversation with the parents of some friends from Kansas. Somehow the conversation got onto the President. I was fine at biting my tongue until I heard: “He just doesn’t understand what folks like us are going through.”
At which point the Imp of the Perverse ran on its silent paws up and down my esophagus and I said, “you know his grandparents are from Kansas, right?”
Stare. “His grandparents are from *Kenya*!”
“Yeah, well…his *other* grandparents are from Kansas!”
At which point I yielded to the kicks my friend was administering me under the table and subsided. I forget what else we talked about.

Adam L Silverman
@Corner Stone: Seen it, multiple times, but I understand why you’ll be watching it rather than Trump. Also, Katrina Law.
I am so happy that I was able to see the President speak at GA Tech, when he was still a Senator from IL. It was apparent that he was someone different, who really cared. I felt like I was witnessing history.
I LOVED that Hillary got to speak at a podium that had the seal of the President. That’s the kind of subconscious advertising that’s worth more than thousands of 27 dollar donations.
@David ?Canadian Anchor Baby? Koch: Whoever’s running her Twitter account is one sharp, sharp cookie. Gonna be a high level communications director (i.e. President’s) soon
@David ?Canadian Anchor Baby? Koch: Shows a lot of Hillary hate reading some of the responses. Lots of Obama hate too. As Obama said today, though, they can handle all the crap thrown their way.
I can’t wait for November 9 when you guys flock here to whine that, “Clinton still has political problems from the emails even with the general election settled.”
@japa21: If my only impression of the race were those Twitter responses, I’d say Trump is going to win in a landslide.

I’d recommend going further back in the catalog to the Peter Green era. “Black Magic Woman” could freak Trump the hell out.
That is an extraordinary, and extraordinarily courageous, letter.
I was born a few years before the liberation of the death camps (young enough that I have no actual memory of the event, but the point is it happened within my lifetime); I have participated in any number of Holocaust remembrance events over the years — and I am still shocked and grieved when I see the kind of vile racist sewage directed at Dana Schwartz.
There are people here who will think or tell me that I shouldn’t be shocked, it’s nothing new, the anti-Semites are just more open now and can hide behind Twitter and Internet anonymity. Well, I know it’s not new by a few thousand years, but I refuse to surrender my ability to be shocked. I do not ever want to take racist speech and behavior for granted. It is horrifying and deserves to be greeted with a horrified reaction, followed, of course, by words and actions that counter the hatefulness.
I think (from something in the letter) that it’s Ms Dana Schwartz, not Mr, but you are right, absolutely devastating. I would hope the fact that she made it a public, open letter might help preserve her employment — there would be incredible blowback if she were fired for this or on some flimsy pretext. It will be most interesting to see whether and how Kushner responds. I hope Quinerly or someone will monitor and let us know.

I live in the rural hillsides of West Virginia, along with many fascinating people. We had our milk cow serviced at a farm nearby, and stopped at D’s house to chat before I went to round up Molly. Which was also interesting, but not on topic.
I learned a lot that hot summer afternoon. He was an infantry soldier in Europe, and was part of a unit that first liberated a death camp. I wish I remembered which one. His first person descriptions of the horror that those country youngsters uncovered that day… it was something I will never forget, even if details fade.

TaMara (HFG)
@Adam L Silverman: Hee-hee. Just playing to my strengths.
I know you said you were putting up a Trump thread if you could find the video feed, but I for one am not going to do anything to dim this contact high from that barn burner of a rally. Trump and Balloon-Juice will have to carry on without me.

JPL
@SiubhanDuinne: haha. . I know that is why I made the comment..
Elizabelle
@TaMara (HFG): agreed. Watching a Trump rally would be like having a turd delivered to the table after you’ve already enjoyed a great meal and fine cognac.

Quinerly
@Corner Stone:

In case anyone is wondering, we’re down to 146K unprocessed ballots here in CA (deadline to complete the count is today), and HRC leads by 387K.

I learned a lot that hot summer afternoon. He was an infantry soldier in Europe, and was part of a unit that first liberated a death camp. I wish I remembered which one. His first person descriptions of the horror that those country youngsters uncovered that day… it was something I will never forget, even if details fade.
