H/T to JeffreyW for this beautiful piece that I have listened to over and over. I’ve been waiting for a quiet moment in my day to share:
I took my niece to the airport at the bleary-eyed hour of 6:30 this morning. Had such a great time with her, beautiful high school graduate going off to college with both a soccer and academic scholarship. Yes, I am proud. Also kind of proud of myself, we hiked some big trails in search of moose and bear and I managed to not embarrass myself. Not too shabby for this old gal. Found moose, no bear.
On my way home from the airport I stupidly listened to the news on the radio. They told me over and over that Bernie has vowed to take his show all the way to the convention. Seems he thinks he can convince the super-delegates to flip for him? I’ve remained neutral (at least here) until now. That’s some big time BS that clouds whatever message he had that resonated with me. Hopefully someone will talk some sense into him.
Now for something completely different, just because all the Hamilton people here are so nice to me and I loved this…theatre geeks unite!
I’ve got to set about doing a week’s worth of work in about a day and half…so if you see me back here, might want to remind me I will soon have a house payment, so I need to quit messing around on the internet and Get Back To Work.
Open thread…

Just stopping by the Doc Martens store and Uniqlo. Yay weekday shopping!

My coworker sent that “Hamilton” link to me by 8:30 am. They know me here.
Cordren does those fast raps really well! I wouldn’t have thunk it. And LMM sure seems to love that sweater, because he wears it for skits A LOT (see also his skit with Amy Schumer).

Thanks TaMara! The Escobar piece was beautiful and the Corden/”Lafayette” bit gave me chills AND chuckles. What a nice way to take one’s mind off of work and the news for a bit. =)

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I am not very musically attuned (sic) but this piece blew me away. I am going to go find as much by this guy as I can. Wonderful piece.

That Broadway Karaoke…..oh my, I would have died…..EEEEEEEEEKKKK!!!
IN HEAVEN!!!

Also, dare we mention that Cordren’s car is a Republican’s worst nightmare? An immigrant, a Nuyorican, an African-American, a gay man, and a liberal white woman. Horrors!

I’ll check out the tunes later.
I had an interview for a full time position at the company I contact for this afternoon. I think it went well. There is some interesting work to be done. I’m in a long term consulting gig now but that is coming to an end in the next 12 to 18 months. It will be nice if they offer me a position and we can reach an agreement on compensation.
MomSense
I was just about to drop by and post the carpool karaoke video for the hamilfans.

@rikyrah:
I have desperately been trying to find a cartoon that LMM posted on Twitter during the NY primary that showed the precinct that Broadway is in writing in Audra McDonald by 100 percent. It was really cute.

@Eric S.:
Good luck for you on the job front.

@efgoldman: thanks for the heads up. been here since april 1 or so, good to get some fun things to do. (been to a few shows already with my brother since getting here and two more coming up (Tim Miller) and (Carl Verheyen). Saw Satriani and then Uli Jon Roth, which was a near religious experience. Very excited by the Boston music scene so far.

@TaMara,
Thank you for introducing me to Damien Escobar.

@Eric S.: That sounds promising. Fingers crossed.

Cordden made me laugh until I was crying in One Man, Two Guvnors, or whatever the name was.
My posts keep getting swallowed. Why?

Do you all think the Cali results will come in pretty quick? Mail in ballots, early voting, and all.
TaMara (HFG)
@efgoldman: That’s sounds amazing, wish I could be there.
@bystander: I could find no comments, so it must be a total FYWP day for you. Sorry.

@efgoldman: I’ll try to come.

@Elizabelle: Mail ins can be slow in Cali because they don’t have to arrive until Friday if they’re postmarked by today. Nate Silver or Cohn had a thing about this… on phone, no link.

They’ll probably call it almost as soon as the polls close, but they don’t close until 8 pm Pacific time.

Considering most threads revolve around the absurdity of another campaign year (didn’t you self-flagellating pain-gatherers have enough from the past two prez campaign years?) and that you repeatedly feed the Trump troll while gathering your pain here’s some Reggie Watts (tiny desk) to remind us just how absurd this all is.
@Elizabelle:
And when you look at the Oregon returns, nearly 70% again it’s high time we do away with in-person voting and go the route of our neighbors just up the highway and go mail-in across the board.

I didn’t realize that Corden is himself a Tony winner for that play. Now it makes more sense why he’s hosting this weekend.

@TaMara (HFG): Hey, TaMara, thanks for the musical interlude. I am still sort of reeling (no pun intended) from my main fiddler man Dave Swarbrick’s death last Friday (same day as Ali), so Damien Escobar is a nice new find. “Hamilton” cast a lot of fun too, particularly as I’m reading about the Hamilton/Burr duel right now…
Also had an interview last Friday at my old library district, it would be a great job for me, and I’m dying to move home, but am veering between thinking “oh, yeah!” and “oh, no!” regarding my prospects. Now looking at applying for a job in Fort Morgan, but the Eastern plains would be a difficult tranisiton for me, so I don’t know if I’ll actually pursue it…

Also, I think there may be a new word associated with a banned troll, because there seems to be a sudden and mysterious upswing in vanished posts.

There’s now an Ali festival going on outside my window. I’m going to come down at 6 AM to queue for tickets for the funeral; I also have somebody with juice working on tickets.
Word on the street is that with Erdogan and Abdullah coming, the chances for an Obama appearance are very high. Pretty much every African and Muslim country with a US embassy will be sending either an ambassador or a high level official. My city governemnt contacts are having fits with the protocol on who gets seated where as a VIP – some of them REALLY hate each other.
Oh, and there’s been a low level gang war for the past 8 months, and quite a few deaths over petty squabbles over territory and collections (Crip and Blood nonsense). There’s been a big effort to get them to all settle the fuck down for a few days – if any squabbles happen during the procession or on the squares, there’s going to be huge hell to pay, and business will wind up shut down for everybody who has an, um, entrepeneurial bent.

Thanks for the support.
On the election front, I’ll be happy if Clinton sews up enough pledged delegates to put this to bed. I honestly haven’t looked at the delegate count to see if that’s possible. This week I heard the goal posts move when someone said she didn’t have enough pledged delegates to declare victory.
On a different front I just left the office of a new doctor. At Northwestern Memorial in downtown Chicago. Peeps with $$$. As a COOL programmer I can’t imagine a profession so technologically behind the times. Walls and walls of paper files. And new customers, me, filling out 20 pages of paperwork to be added to those walls.
At least the doctor had a laptop when he finally saw me 40 minutes after my appointment time.

@Mnemosyne:
Corden was great on “Guns and Ships”! I’m always amazed that other people can do these numbers and they’re still fabulous. They’re not tied to the original performer at all.
Audra was really blowing them away. I’ve been crying at the sound of her voice since I heard her as Miss Pipperidge in Carousel.

@Eric S.: Those records are older ones, I would guess. Converting everything to digital would be cost prohibitive. As new patients are seen, digital records are created, requisite info entered, and then kept up to date.
Electronic medical record systems are expensive, as is transitioning to them. I suspect some older docs, nearing retirement, aren’t going to bother to transition. And younger ones in marginal practices probably can’t afford it.
I’d assume they will take the important info from your paper forms and enter it into your digital file. I’m not sure what the other option is–kiosks with computers for you to enter info? Tablets? Secure sites for you to log into and upload info prior to your appointment? Considering that internists generally see a lot of older patients with limited computer skills, I suspect that’s not going to happen soon.
(I have an appointment tomorrow; as a hospital doc, I don’t know how practices are handling the transition. Will ask…….)
Miss Bianca
@Eric S.: good luck on the job front. And, in fairness to the concept of paper files, they might be a bit harder to hack into than electronic ones.

Since it’s open thread, if you are in North Carolina and haven’t voted today, the polls are open until 7:30pm and one of the most important races is for the state Supreme Court. Here is a link to an article about the state Supreme Court
The gist of the article is anyone but Edmunds.
ThresherK
Before the turn of the century, before anyone knew who he was, Spousal ThresherK and I had the great good fortune of seeing Jesse Tyler Ferguson play Chip in On The Town (i.e. Frank Sinatra’s role in the movie). It’s a hoot and a half that Lea DeLaria played Hildy, Chip’s girlfriend.
Having this much talent in one car is dangerous, in the “President and VP never travel on the same plane” way.

@Eric S.:
She can and will get a majority of pledged delegates.
She won’t get enough of a supermajority of pledged delegates for them to be a majority of all delegates, which is the goalpost that Sanders and Weaver last insisted would be required to get them to bow out. That is, they said that Clinton would have to win so many pledged delegates that she’d win even if 100% of the superdelegates flipped to Sanders, or else he’d keep trying to flip them.
It’s anyone’s guess whether he’ll keep singing that tune.

@gogol’s wife:
If you mean the movie from 1949 with Peggy Cummins, there’s only one process shot in the whole film. Everything else — including the famous bank robbery — was shot inside the cars.

@Mnemosyne:
I knew somebody would correct me. I was trying to think of a film with cheesy process shots, and pulled that one out of my a–, thinking, “I’m probably wrong about this, but I can’t think of one right now.” You know what I meant!
Maybe Notorious would be a better example, but that one makes me nervous too, even though it’s fakey.
