That’s weird; with the primaries just around the corner in Oregon, I saw a Kasich campaign commercial on the morning news program today. I suppose the ad time was purchased a while ago. To help with the Trump hangover –
Something that’s probably never happened in the history of aviation happened recently on a JetBlue flight from New York to California: Passengers actively rooted for babies to start crying. The one-of-a-kind flight was documented for a JetBlue Mother’s Day ad released this week, Adweek reports. After passengers were seated, a flight attendant announced, “This will be the very first flight where crying babies is a good thing.” To make that happen, JetBlue offered a 25% discount to passengers every time a baby started crying; so four fussy babies equaled a free flight. It worked. Fortune notes passengers were “cheering and clapping” for crying babies by the time the plane touched down. “It made the entire idea of being mad about a sweet, innocent baby crying seem altogether

How the MSM covers the Clinton v Trump campaigns will depend on which wins out: their natural inclination toward covering it as a closely competitive horse-race between two plausible candidates, or else toward focusing on Trump as an irresistible car-crash freak show. The answer will likely vacillate back and forth, depending on which approach seems to those in charge of news production decisions to be more likely to draw eyeballs and clicks at a given moment. Of course, their preferred choice would be to have their cake and eat it too – cover it as a closely competitive contest between a carnival-barker freak (Trump) and a political establishment geek (Clinton). And because they think it will draw eyeballs/clicks as well as follow their timid “both sides do it” approach, they will from time to time divert into the alleged dirt in Clinton’s past, in the interest of fairly covering both sides, of course. My bet is that Trump will be unable to help himself from going into freak-show mode often enough that the MSM coverage will somewhat tilt in that direction, because it will be impossible for them to ignore and remain credible (or to forego the views and clicks they could get focusing on it when it happens).

@Major Major Major Major: The House can only vote for the three candidates who got the most electoral college votes. So unless it is 269-269, one faithless elector won’t be enough. Ryan is going to need more electors than the third party candidate.
Twelfth amendment, third paragraph:
The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice.
And btw, the constitution doesn’t explain what happens if there is a tie for third place (or higher). Which of the tied candidates will not be eligible for the House vote?
The media is going to do its “we have to play fair” thing and give him think pieces and magazine covers and treat him like a “serious candidate.”
The media could show him in a clown suit and denounce him in editorials every day from now until election day, and it would make no difference to his base.
And he is a “serious” candidate simply by virtue of the fact that he is seriously trying to win votes. It will up to the voters to defeat him.

@burnspbesq: What the _________, is, they realize that HRC’s likely to win and the Senate is likely to change hands. I believe I saw some panic that HRC could nominate Elizabeth Warren? That’s just an example, but we all know between a Garland and a Warren, sensible right-wingers (bear with me) are gonna want a Garland in there.
What Obama oughta do, just for fun, is make a statement: “If HRC wins, I’m immediately withdrawing Judge Garland’s nomination from consideration”. He won’t of course – I think he’s even said as much – but then they’d really be sweating it out.
I was struck by the looks on the faces of his family standing behind him. Especially Melania. She did not clap…. They all looked like they could not believe that this…person… could conceivably become President of the United States.

He really has been convinced his entire life that he’s the smartest guy in the room.
And, even only after winning one phucking election in his entire life, he thought that he could give the finger to everybody in the GOP Establishment, because he’s got it like that.
Then, he was convinced that he was too smart for Trump and would steal the nomination from him at the convention.
Words cannot express the pleasure of watching Trump dispatch him the way that he did.
And, that Trump meltdown he had earlier in the day?
I wonder if there’s an agreement that at a certain point, Garland is supposed to go “Well, at this late date, I have to agree with the republicans and let the next president decide” then withdraw his name from consideration.

@zmulls:

Not me. Had a huge grin on my face.
This is true.
He is a sociopath with a crazy azz Daddy that told him Jesus wanted him to be President.
HILARIOUS.

I wonder if there’s an agreement that at a certain point, Garland is supposed to go “Well, at this late date, I have to agree with the republicans and let the next president decide” then withdraw his name from consideration.

How about educated people? He seems to need people who aren’t educated to support him, doesn’t he? Like Pol Pot!
