From universally beloved commentor Siubhan Duinne:
I’m going to be in Memphis this weekend and have made tentative plans to meet up with local residents ECLARE and DEE LORELEI Saturday evening. Would love to meet any other Memphians.
Time and place to be determined — as I will be in Memphis on behalf of Canada, I’d kind of like to throw some business in the direction of “The Kooky Canuck,” owned by a Canadian. It’s on 2nd Street, across from the Peabody Hotel. But I’m certainly open to other suggestions from people who actually live there…
Anyone interested can email me at SiubhanDuinne (at) gmail (dot) com, and include phone number or best way of reaching them.

As a former Memphian, I am legally required to say that barbecue is a better alternative than the Kooky Canuck. I recommend the Rendezvous or Central BBQ.
Wish I could be there.

@Big R: Even fast food BBQ in Memphis (Tops, Little Pigs) is better than BBQ found elsewhere.
I used to live near Union & Cleveland, so I ate Tops often.

Thumbs up on Central BBQ.

Make it next week and I might have made it. Then again it’s a packed trip so I might not have had time anyway. I was going to ask Memphian readers what they think of the town.

Is the Catfish Cabin still there?

@Tim F.:
The sun went down like a curtain
Memphis looks bigger at night
All the tatooed boys in uniform
Step in and out of the light
She bought me good whiskey in Memphis
She bought supper and she paid for the room
And as best as I can remember
She paid dearly for loving me too

I’m not married to the idea of Kooky Canuck, it’s just the Canada connection.
Thanks, AL, for putting the post up!

@Mike J:
QFT. I grew up in Midtown so I ate there a lot too. Also, I’m so old I still call it Topp’s.

@Big R:
This former Memphian concurs. Central BBQ is my favorite, but not a good place to have a group conversation. Rendezvous would be better, and would not require a drive to Midtown.
SiubhanDuinne
I’ve consumed a great deal of BBQ at Rendezvous in my time. That would be a fine alternative.

Hope y’all have a great time. I’d join, except for 8 hour car drive.

So very sorry to have to miss everyone. The other thing about the “Crazy C” is that the owner is a hard eyed libertarian who left Canada to escape the socialism. If you want something not BBQ I would suggest SOB (South of Beale) has a very tasty duck patty melt. Yummy. And Rizzo’s has the ultimate fair food in a lobster pronto pup. If you know that you’re going to go to the ‘vouz call the day before and order the shrimp, you won’t be disappointed.

Anything works for me. You have my number. I’ll be there with bells on. All I’ve done lately when I go out is play hold ’em, so anything will be a nice break from that.
