Plus, I am too lazy to rewrite it. Weird.

I’m starting to like the WordPress game. Will it post? Will it not? It’s like a gambling high.
It makes me feel . . . alive.

Sounds like “my dog ate my homewordk.”
Now, on a more sober note as I watch the two GOP candidates give their stump speeches in Iowa, the one that’s running for VP just said (and I kid you NOT) that the PALIN-McCain administration will change things. Yup, Palin-McCain.
Keep you eyes peeled for the youtube capture.
Now, back to watching the humpty dumpty “free market” experiment on wall st.
Stuck in the Fun House
Mccain used his masterful blackberry kung fool to cipher it away from innocent eyes. Then Sarah Palin shot it dead while on Mooseback.

Ready On Day One
from Balloon Juice by John Cole
To get shitty with anyone who questions her:
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin took questions with her running mate Wednesday night, offering at one point to play “stump the candidate” with a mostly friendly Michigan crowd.
Asked for “specific skills” she could cite to rebut critics who question her grasp of international affairs, she replied, “I am prepared.”
“I have that confidence. I have that readiness,” Palin said. “And if you want specifics with specific policies or countries, you can go ahead and ask me. You can play ‘stump the candidate’ if you want to. But we are ready to serve.”
Now you see why the wingnut base loves her. Rude, obnoxious, condescending, dishonest and overconfident and underqualified are not bugs when you are a Republican, they are a feature. Just take her word for it- she is qualified. And fuck you if you question her.
Maybe she should save some of that hostility and channel it towards America’s real enemies. Like, for example, Spain.
>>Cheers

Give the issues with your hosting, John, I’d imagine it’s more like everything crashed on the server, the hosting company restored from the most recent backup, and your post there hadn’t made it to backup. (Not sure how that would increment the WP ID number, though, so that’s a hole in my hypothesis.)
I always end up coming across as a kneejerk defender of WordPress but that’s because so many people are just assuming WP is at fault because it’s their logo on the error message. I’m quite certain that when the database goes haywire it’s not WP’s fault. I don’t know what happened here, but it’s pretty rare for a stable, mature blogging package to just eat a post so I’m going for the most obvious explanation, which in my view is the hosting.
Any update on finding new hosting?

I love the slug line:

Titanic adjusting to iceberg action.
Hiroshima adjusting to A-bomb action.
Trade Towers adjusting to airliner action.
Galveston adjusting to Ike action.

Just to reinforce what EOC said above, from the messages I see all too frequently when visiting this site, it’s the database being inaccessible that’s the problem, not wordpress, even though wordpress is emitting the error message. If that’s the case, it’s your hosting service that’s the problem. I’ve started noticing the same phenomenon at Eunomia lately too. Perhaps you guys are using the same hosting service? I’ve been too lazy to check.

A rather large hole, yes, since nothing of the sort ever happened. Since I am the owner of the hosting company keeping the servers together (who, coincidentally, also gets all the pages from the remote monitoring server when anything goes nutty), I can say that with confidence. Since I was also reading the comments on that entry only to find it gone when I returned to the main page, I can also assure you that there was not a thing wrong with the server between the time the post was there and when it was not.
Afraid not. We have sites hosted here, also running wordpress (among other applications), with loads more traffic and many more comments on any 24-hour basis, and none of them cause the number of load issues this site does. Since this site is virtually alone on a dual xeon 2.4 with a couple gigs of RAM thrown in, I’d say it’s highly unlikely that it has anything to do with “the hosting” and quite a lot more to do with something on this particular site. What that might be, beyond some random plugin or simply poor coding, is not something we can say at this time, but since I prefer not to be paged (because I prefer not to have servers going crazy), I can say that we continue to look at it.
greynoldsct00
Yes, please John change the server/host whatever, I’ve been getting separation anxiety over the last few days because I’ve been more error messages than your pithy writings and the colorful responses from the gang…
Bwahahahaha! Coming up on YouTube in 10, 9, 8…. we need some levity today.

Just now, in fact, we dealt with the latest issue that this site appears to have, where it couldn’t connect to a perfectly functional mySQL socket – ironically, every process in the output listing belongs to this site, yet WP doesn’t seem to recognize they’re there.
No, we don’t host that site. Amazing, isn’t it, that two unconnected sites, both using the same application, could have the same sort of issues…

Yes, Dennis, you got it right. “Markets adjusting to economic action”…indeed.
Now, howsabout a little journey down memory lane…
Jan. 1981: Reagan takes office. Fed debt, $930 billion.
David Stockman works the “supply side” magic.
1988: Reagan leaves office. Fed debt $2.6 trillion.
Adjustment…USA went from being the largest creditor nation to the largest debtor nation.
Which brings us to current…54% of listed budgetary expenditures (not inclusive of emergency funding or extensions) goes to military (Dept of Defense (war).
The adjustment will be that “they will turn their swords into plowshares”…and perhaps there might be PEACE.
Funding illegal “wars” with borrowed money can not be sustained.
As Rodney King so eloquently stated, “Can’t we all just get along?”

I swear the WordPress/db errors are half the charm of this place.
A good percentage of my boneheaded posts don’t survive the process. That’s not such a bad thing.

Apparently Palin called Cedar Rapids, “Grand Rapids,” today. While that’s understandable since she was just in GR, if you already have pissed off the town by not being willing to tour the flooded areas and a narrative has built around you not knowing anything, that isn’t going to help.
w vincentz
@zzyzx,
She also called it the Palin-McCain ticket. Wait for the youtube capture.

Completely off topic, I’m looking for ImJohnGalt to give him my travel tip for PA from a request way down blog. If anyone knows how to reach him, I recommend he and his partner go to the Frank Llyod Wright Houses in Chalk Hill, PA. Kentuck Knob wasn’t that impressive but the grounds knocked me out there. They have a fabulous sculpture garden and the Falling Water house that’s nearby is really worth a stop. Astounding home and probably the most liveable one I’ve ever seen Wright design.
For food, I highly recommend Chez Gerard in Hopwood, PA which is sort of close by. Great french resturant in a house. You would drive right by it if you didn’t know it was there. On line at http://www.chezgerard.net.

I’m not sure that’s a knock against her, all things considered. At the moment, that would seem more of a feature than a bug.

The “worst sitcom idea ever with a former world leader” award goes to this show. The fact that they actually aired one ep is mind-boggling.

This might be threadworthy if things get stable….
Aside from the Incredible Distraction that is Sarah Palin, things are getting interesting as notable people line up behind the candidates.
So in this corner we have former Hillary Clinton fundraiser Lynn Forester de Rothschild, backing McCain
Note that the titled Lady Rothschild, who lives in London and New York, has accused Obama of being elitist. But if you are a woman married to a man named Evelyn and you have homes on two freakin’ continents, you just might be an elitist.
I suspect that she is really a PUMA in sheep’s clothing. The idea that McCain or Palin are centrists is laughable.
On the other side, Andrew Sullivan notes the following: Former publisher of National Review, Wick Allison, endorses Obama. Why? Because no conservative can support the current GOP (A Conservative for Obama). Key quote:
I look forward to more fun with Dueling Endorsements.
Conservatively Liberal
I captured all eight episodes and put them on DVD. My favorite episode was the one with the sick cat (and Laura thinking she had a feminine hygiene problem). God that was sick! I liked how the cat blew up at the end…lol!
I was bummed when they pulled it after 9-11. That show was priceless.
Ash Can
Voila.
SGEW
But obviously Wick Allison and Chuck Hagel are liberal, America-hating elitists who have obviously always hated our freedoms, so it’s no surprise that they worship at the Obamessiah.
Meanwhile, Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild and Joe Lieberman are great Americans who accurately represent all reasonable Democrats.
See how it works?
Barbar
you have homes on two freakin’ continents
Eh, that’s no big deal.
The fact that her husband’s family has several wikipedia pages dedicated to it (Rothschilds of Austria, England, Naples, etc — this might be the most elite family in the world), and the fact that she was Cindy McCain-level rich before she even married him… now that makes her an elitist.
Darkrose
You might be an elitist if:
Your family is in the first page of results when Googling “international banking conspiracy” or “Illuminati”.
SGEW
See, that’s where you’re wrong. They’re not elite, they’re noble. As in, they have titles of nobility. Which is perfectly all-American, even though it’s expressly prohibited in the Constitution.
Brain hurts.

John –
I just made another donation through the B-J Act Blue page. When I set up an “express” account to make donating easier, I was told that if I was close to maxing out on my federal donation limit, I could designate that my Act Blue “tips” could be excluded from that limit.
Which I guess means that every time I was leaving a tip for Act Blue in the past, it was counting toward my federal contribution limit?
Yikes … something to know going in. Make sure you designate your tip as “excluded.”

John and Tim:
Love your website – it’s on my net-cruising list nearly every day.
However, it might be time to quit hosting it on WordPress running on an old 486 laptop, and get better hardware and software.

Late to this thread, but I have long suspected something of the sort going on. When I get lazy in reading and need to catch up, I tend to do it by incrementing the numbers of the post in the address bar (this is, incidentally, something that I would like to see improved, a la Ta-Nehisi). Some numbers are simply not there. I noticed this, actually, near the time you were celebrating the 10k post but didn’t want to say anything to ruin the mood. Thank the stars for RSS, though, eh?
