The key is the word “think”. My impression is that their current negotiations are based more on hope than on thought. The only logic I can think of is that they figure the feds want them out without bloodshed, and they’re giving up that leverage by leaving. It’s also possible that they don’t believe any of them will be let out without charges, so they’re desperately trying to negotiate for something most of them could already get just by leaving.

And the first thing they had to do was send out an SOS for dry socks and snacks. When I read about how they harassed people in Burns, it was oafish and sad. From what I read, they just ran into random people who worked for the BLM (how, in what capacity, who cares?) and followed them home and threatened them.
If these people won’t leave, maybe best hope is that they all fall into a postprandial stupor after bingeing on snacks, and the law can quietly walk in and disarm them, before gently waking them up. Politely, of course, for they are sovereign citizens and must not be disrespected.

That got me thinking of Gilbert O’Sullivan. I had two of his 8 track tapes. He was almost a one hit wonder.
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: @Omnes Omnibus: Smooth Sailing is cool.
redshirt
@efgoldman: Omnes. Omnes? OMNES? Do you like Hall & Oates?
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: I have wondered about that.
Omnes Omnibus
@redshirt: If you are doing a caligula impression, you should eschew capital letters. And H&O is too 80s.
MomSense
@redshirt:
I had a close encounter with a skunk. Thankfully I was outside of the plume.
@Omnes Omnibus:
I’m really enjoying his music.
Gravenstone
O/T: I just saw an honest to God (snerk) commercial for the Creationism museum. Their special offer, if you’re stupid enough to buy two tickets, they’ll give you four free. Desperate much?
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: Sometimes, I think about things. Sometimes, I just take some Nyquil and go to sleep.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
Yes and Lisa Sawyer.
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: Listening to River right now.
Anya
I listened to the militia’s liveblogg last night. Sweet Oh jeezus on a toast, they are delusional. They deal with their dissapointment in life by convincing themselves they are pure and everyone else is either corrup or a sheep. Zero contact with reality. But I was surprised that they don’t mention Obama that much. They’re more obsessed with Hillary’s supposed corruption than they are with Obama.
Omnes Omnibus
@Anya: The Obama abomination is coming to an end. Hill Hell may be just around the corner.
Prescott Cactus
@efgoldman: @efgoldman:
Me and a keyboard like a chimpanze with a bazooka.
One last try: Gilbert O’Sullivan
Ah now I see, end link button and place verbiage inside the tags.
Aleta
@MomSense: Sometimes these temperatures will wake up a bear, racoons or skunks to snuffle around for a few pop tarts before back to dozing. If any woods near you have been cut in the last year, it could change the winter hunting for a cougar and bring one into a neighborhood, esp. if there’s a chicken coop. Central Maine has had an increase in fisher population. None of those are much threat to us or a dog unless they feel attacked or cornered. Since the snow isn’t deep, they have lots of other food right now. I wonder what the tracks will look like tomorrow ?
redshirt
@Omnes Omnibus: Who’s caligula?
I was doing a “L1ttle B00ts impression”.
I’ve tried making this reply three times now, so I wonder if there’s a forbidden phrase.
Apparently, yes. LB’s very name is verboten.

@Anya: Meet the New enemy. Same as the Old enemy (hint: It’s all Democrats or not Republicans).
a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q)
@MomSense: For my birthday gift, Mr. Q. got tickets to see the Dave Rawlings Machine in Louisville in April. They’ll do some Gillian Welch stuff, but mostly I think he uses their second tier songs for the Machine. Two years ago for my birthday I got to see Jason Isbell here in town; the closest he’s coming on this tour is Indy.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
Something to be said for a pretty song with a melody and great vocals.
I’m so sick of auto tuned I could spit.
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: This is where I first discovered Leon Bridges. Pairs nicely with this.
Poopyman
@efgoldman: I was thinking about him just today, and wondering where he’d gone. (Idly. Don’t really miss him.)
Odd, that.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: I don’t like Bourbon.

@Aleta:
I’ll have a look in the morning. we have had a stretch of unusually warm weather lately.

As long as I am doing Takeaway show soul things: Lee Fields, ladies and gentlemen.
You are welcome.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
Ooh, great cover of one of my favorite songs. I could get completely lost in that performance series. Thank you.
redshirt
@Omnes Omnibus: LOL. Thanks for the tip.
Anya
@Omnes Omnibus: I thought they would still hold on to Obama the dictator for a little longer. I guess I didn’t think they’ll give up their boogeyman that soon.
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: I love the whole concept of the Takeaway shows. Some work better than others. But I have spent evenings lost in them.
MomSense
@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q):
Oh fun! I haven’t been to a concert in far too long. I did finally see Force Awakens last night and it made me feel like a kid again. I cheered when I saw the Millenium Falcon. Turned into a complete fool but it was fun.
@Omnes Omnibus:
I don’t often get to be the one recommending music to the kids so thanks for that.
Steeplejack
@efgoldman:
I think “Alone Again” and “Clair” count for at least one and a half hits, if not two. Keeping in mind it was the ’70s.
opiejeanne
@Anoniminous: Karo Syrup.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
I can see why. I’m pretty forgiving when it comes to performances if there is something interesting, spontaneous, or experimental happening.
MomSense
@efgoldman:
It reminded me a lot of IV which is still my favorite. I saw it at a drive-in on a starry night in ’77. I was completely transported to a galaxy far far away.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: The whole dynasty sucks. Fuck ’em.
@MomSense: Once in awhile I am socially useful. I assume it is the one of the reason I won’t be one of the very first up against the wall when the revolution comes.
redshirt
@MomSense: TFA is a soft reboot of IV in many ways. Certainly the plot almost mirrors the first Star Wars.
But that works for me and obviously many others. As opposed to the prequels, where Lucas was clearly trying for something new (while tying it to the old – C3-P0 for example).
Gravenstone
@Anya:
So they’re a forward looking bunch (of navel gazers), is that it?
Omnes Omnibus
As long as we are on music, this song has been haunting me recently. That was was 100 years ago. It was supposed to end wars. The Dropkick Murphys do a surprisingly touching version.

@Omnes Omnibus:
Sorry, but “The first thing we do is kill all the lawyers”.
It’s Shakespeare, man.
Omnes Omnibus
@redshirt: Shakey was bad at history.
ETA: There are over a million lawyers. I am just assuming I come after the ones who wrote briefs approving torture.
A
@efgoldman: They don’t hibernate, but seem to curl up for longer periods in the winter and then show up for a few nights when the temps go up. Especially the skunks when there is a spring-like feel to the night air. Maybe it’s the sound of running meltwater that brings the raccoons out ? Just observations from around here.
opiejeanne
@Omnes Omnibus: Thank you for posting that. Stunning photos and their treatment of that song is very good.

@Steeplejack:
Claire isn’t ring a bell, but “Ooh Baby” and “Get Down” did. No links. . . He’s doing a 2016 tour in Europe. Was very popular in Japan, so I read.
Omnes Omnibus
@Prescott Cactus: Honestly, I hope he never is mentioned again on this blog. I am not even being a proto-hipster when I say that. Dear god.

@redshirt – Omnes Omnibus
Getting the lawyers to pay for the wall they’ll be put up against is the rub.
Steeplejack
@Prescott Cactus:
The title “Clair” is a link to the song. Dunno if your version of this FYWP site is doing the barely-perceptible-hyperlinks thing.

One of the most frequently misinterpreted lines of Shakespeare. By ignoramuses.

Couldn’t find the song by Shakespear’s Sister that I was not quite thinking of, so I went with Everything but the Girl, “Before Today.” Had to push Gilbert O’Sullivan out of my head.
Omnes Omnibus
@eemom: Since everyone gets it wrong (and will in the next revolution), I just wand John Yoo and his ilk to get it before me. And I hope he dies badly.

Are u sure it was milita’s liveblog? cuz is sounds just like GOS
Anne Laurie
@A:
Yup — not true hibernation, but coons & skunks both hole up & mostly sleep, especially when there’s a ton of snow. Mating season starts February-ish, though, so on warmer nights the boys in particular will be out lookin’ for ladies. And when two male skunks decide to have a pissing match, well…
MomSense
@Adam L Silverman:
Ha!!
Steeplejack
@Omnes Omnibus:
Nice. Now I’m diving into Baby, the Stars Shine Bright Tonight.
But I’m going out old-school: Sandra King, “Leave It Up to the Boys.” And Jesse James, “Are You Gonna Leave Me.”
Night, all.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steeplejack: Goodnight all.
Adam L Silverman
@MomSense: or ewwwww!
Prescott Cactus
@Omnes Omnibus:
I have to agree. MomSence had mentioned Gilbert and Sullivan. . . My misspent youth included Gilbert O’Sullivan. I should have left him there.
@Steeplejack:
Steeplejack, got ya. I even listened to it but didn’t stir the neurons.
Night all

Great. Evidently, 60-80 vehicles have descended on Burns this evening. The tweet says “rally,” though given what we’ve been hearing from some of these psycho dipshits, I wonder if they’re planning on being the extraction team to get the remaining four out of Malheur HQ. Link to the tweet here.

@The Republic, Blah Blah Blah…: The Pop-Tart Rebellion… That was an episode of Lost in Space, wasn’t it?
Matt McIrvin
@efgoldman: The original actually has one tiny bit of honest-to-God CGI in it: the wireframe animation of the Death Star attack during the briefing scene. That was really computer-generated, and for the time it was a tour de force.
I like that all the various Special Editions never replaced it.
